The Library House is our favorite place to be on the Wellstone Center premises. This newly renovated stand-alone cabin lies a bit remote from the main house and is the ideal hideaway for a couple. From the porch of the Library House you have the most amazing views of the ocean below, especially at sunset. It's quiet and undisturbed there - here the world seems in peace.
Unfortunately (or fortunately - we are not sure) the Library House does not have electricity or running water. We equipped it with gas lanterns and candles instead of electric lighting, and a propane heater in case it gets cold. There is also an antique washing bowl and pitcher, which can be used for washing one's face or brushing teeth.
The home of the Wellstone Center in the Redwoods offers people who seek tranquility and peacefulness the perfect spot to spend a long weekend or restful week or two. We are ideally situated for day trips to all the magical sights this part of California has to offer. Up here at the end of the road you will find luscious flora and fauna, a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere and you can experience the best of two worlds: the redwoods that literally grow in the back yard and the ocean that is only a short drive (or bike ride) away.
We offer access to our fully equipped kitchen during the evening hours and there is also the possibility for BBQing outside. Further, our guests in the Library House are invited to use an indoor guest bathroom with shower, which is directly located at the entrance of the main house.
From the back of the main house you can take private trails through the redwoods. On our grounds you can entertain yourself with Bocce ball or just lounge by the pool or sit in the hot tub. We will try to make you feel comfortable and give you an experience that you will not want to have missed. The Wellstone Center in the Redwoods also provides free community courses, such as Sarah's popular German Cooking Course two Friday nights a month, and weekend workshops on topics like nature photography or a "Find Your Voice" writing workshop with a best-selling author. For more information, visit our website, which is easy to find.

Being at the top of Amigo Road one quickly realizes what a special place on earth this is. The great beauty of the outdoors, including lush plants and trees, hummingbirds and hawks, invites visitors to a serene retreat from the stress and chaos many experience in their daily lives. We ask our guests to treat our premises, but especially flora and fauna, with gentleness and respect. To fully experience relaxation, we suggest guests refrain from using computers or cell phones or cranking the tunes.
We discourage those who want to have parties from coming to the Wellstone Center, but people who love to hike, to be out in the fresh air, eat wonderful, healthy food and live in a more balanced and aware life are very welcome!
Once arrived we'd like to ask you to take off your shoes inside the buildings. Ideally, bring your own slippers or sandals for indoors!
Due to having a septic tank, we have to be especially careful not to throw anything into the toilet (or sink), especially no bleach containing substances, alcohol, tampons etc.
Our tap water comes from a well and is really clean and healthy and very delicious. So, no need to bring bottled water. If it does not make you lose your zen, we would really appreciate if showers were keep to moderate lengths of time. Please DO take a shower, before you get into the pool, as we try to use as few chemicals as possible to keep it clean and crystal..
Also, if you are planning on cooking here, make sure to bring some groceries (and maybe some char coal, if you should need some). We are happy to help you out with basic ingredients form our pantry and give you coffee/tea in the morning.
When I arrived Ariel checked me in and showed me the lay of the land. I maybe saw the owners and others that live on the property once or twice as they were going about their daily lives. I didn't spend much time in the big house, but it was made clear I was welcome to join into the fun in the evening to play games or what not. The property owners animals, wildlife, and the views awesome beauty is unmatched in my book. When I booked, my goal was to spend time alone to fast, read, write, draw, hike, and reflect on things in my life. I got EXACTLY what I wanted. Thank you for sharing.
P.S. For those who visit after me, I left behind some extra candles and my own contribution to the library shelves. Pay it forward visitors and leave some treats behind for the next bloke.
The Library house at the Wellstone Center was by far one of the best airbnb's I've ever stayed at. The photos do not do the library house or the rest of the center justice. The views are magnificient and reach over the redwoods and the ocean. Sarah and Steve and the woofers are all very relaxed and welcoming and I loved all their animals! It was the perfect balance of being available to help me but also giving me my space.
I really cannot say enough good things about this place. My stay was the perfect, relaxing retreat I was looking for and I will definintly be back. If you are looking for peace and quiet while still having the amenities of a kitchen, bathroom (not to mention hot tub and pool!!) this is it.
Also the hiking trail was a lot of fun and very beautiful. I highly reccomend this airbnb.
Steve and Sarah are amazing hosts, and made sure that Jessica and I felt extremely welcome during our stay at The Library House. The property was gorgeous, the other tenants were remarkably pleasant, and the location was prime. Perfect getaway!
We had such a great time in the zen suite. We didn't see much of our hosts due to our busy schedule, but they made us feel at home and welcomed us fully. The bed was extremely comfortable and everything was clean. The bath tub was a personal favorite for me. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed how many windows were in the room, it was so beautiful. The location is secluded and is gorgeous (even in the rain)
Sarah was an excellent host and made my wife and I feel welcome the second we arrived. We were looking to unplug and "get away from it all." A weekend in The Library House was perfect. The views are amazing and are worth the stay. I definitely recommend the location and hope to return soon!
We had a wonderful time in the library house! How amazing to wake up and see the sunrise and the clouds on the ocean. Sarah was very welcoming and we felt at home. We even had the chance to taste their fresh goat milk and cheese. As a bonus: the redwoods just behind the house with perfects trails for a hike.
Sarah and Steve were so welcoming. The house had a pitcher of water, freshly picked oranges and a porch from which we were able to watch dozens of kinds of birds flying above the valley below. Not to mention tons of books! They offered us goat's milk and fresh bread. Really, amazing hosts. We'll definitely be back.

We are the Wellstone Center in the Redwoods, a small community in the California redwoods seeking to promote an atmosphere of tranquility and calm, to bolster the talents and capabilities of people through workshops and author talks and writer residencies, including programs for writers under the tutelage of a New York Times best-selling author, and to work to make a difference bringing attention to issues such as climate change, respect for the environment and nature, development of the young, organic gardening and healthy, active living. We are accepting visitors through Airbnb for private retreats, offering an introduction to the beautiful setting in all its variety in the hope that those who are enchanted by Amigo Road - and so far we have yet to meet anyone who has come here and not been enchanted - will come back later to participate in Wellstone Center in the Redwoods programs and activities.
