The Space

A lovely bright clean room, in a friendly Dublin house. This room would suit somebody looking for either a short term or long term let, or a couple. The house is a 1930s period property and would be fairly typical of the type of house that a lot of Irish people live in.....,This room would suit a short let or if you are thinking of a longer term you would be very welcome..... I work from home a lot so will be on hand to help you out with any questions. You will have the run of the house, and will be given a door key so you can come and go as you wish, and when you are not out exploring the city you are welcome to use the kitchen to cook in, or the sitting room to curl up by the open fire with our old dog and slightly mad cat ,and a good book, or watch some telly or avail of the WiFi .If the weather is fine you can sit out in the very private garden and even have a BBQ if you like. Located about 4 kms from the city center ,in a quiet residential area, which has supermarkets, a post office, a chemist, and parks on the doorstep and a selection of restaurants and local pubs about 15 away . Or if you want to pop into the city, the bus stops just at the end of our little cul de sac and it will have you there in approx 25 mins. .The room itself has many little extras, like a kettle, tea, coffee and biscuits if you fancy a late night snack, lots of books to peruse ,maps of the area so you won't get lost, practical things like an electric blanket to keep you cosy, towels, extra bedding , pillows,. Breakfast is included in the price ,I will provide lots of breakfast items i.e tea, coffee, bread, eggs , yogurt, honey etc, and you are welcome to cook it yourself at any time you want, so if you fancy breakfast at 7am or 3pm that is just fine, ...... So we look forward to your visit ..............Note my house is a normal Dublin house, it is not a hotel or hostel, I try really hard to make you feel at home and to give you as much info about getting around Dublin as possible....I am very happy to do long term as well as short, so if you think that this would suit let me know...regards barbara

  • Barbara was lovely, made us feel at home from the start of our stay! Great location with bus stop right outside and a tesco about a minute away. Barbara was really helpful and was great at recommending where to go in Dublin and the surrounding area. Wouldn't hesitate staying again.

  • Barbara is an AMAZING host! She left us feeling right at home and was so generous in sharing her space. The house itself is clean, beautiful and cozy and a good deal of that is owed to Barbara and her daughters's artistic talents. Her dog is adorably well-mannered and has the personality of a Wallace and Gromit character. On top of having the lovely opportunity of meeting Barbara, we had the chance to meet 2 other awesome guests from different parts of the world. I would highly recommend staying with Barbara. One of our best AirBnB experiences yet!!

  • It was a wonderful time at Barbaras house. Feels almost like at home. Lovely lady and a playful dog. The rooms are very british, but the garden is the best. Thank you Barbara for the relaxing time. Ulla

  • I had a great stay at Barbara's house for the 4 months of my semester abroad in Dublin. Barbara is a great hostess and made me feel welcome and comfortable from the first day. It even felt like home after a few weeks. The atmosphere in the house is really easy going, chatty and full of fun :)
So i would highly recommand to stay with Barbara! It was a great experience and she is really helpful to get settled and find your way through Dublin.
And her DVD Collection is great as well!
Also, a good choice of food, tea and fruit was provided for breakfast and the house was always clean.
There would be so many more things to say, but to make it short: It was perfect!
Thank you very much, Barbara :)

  • Staying with Barbara was an extraordinary and wonderful experience -- I simply can't say enough good things about her home, or Barbara herself.

The house, which is at the end of a tiny side street off Kimmage Road, can be a tiny bit tricky to find -- at least for my cab driver, although we straightened it out quickly -- but the location is perfect. It's just across the street from a bus stop that goes straight to city center in about 12 minutes, through interesting neighborhoods. There are shops within a three-minute walk for groceries (although Barbara is generous in this regard!) and incidentals. Taxis came past the street every minute or two, and Barbara's street is just across from a small, pretty park.

The room was comfortable with thoughtful touches -- an electric kettle and selection of (email hidden), extra blankets, a variety of pillow options, fast wifi and a desk that I used to finish up some work while I was there. The mattress was comfortable -- firm, but not too firm -- the floors were warm, and the radiators kept the house cozy on a couple of cold nights.

The shared spaces -- kitchen, living room (with a peat fire on blustery nights!), wc and bathing room -- were sparklingly clean and conveniently appointed. The entire house is lovely and quiet, and the walled courtyard garden is a wonderful spot to sit and have a cup of tea. The hot water in the shower (which has a slightly too-close curtain that billows in while you wash) is an on-demand system and a pleasure; the bathroom and toilet room (shared by four rooms, including Barbara's) never had a single traffic jam in the week that I was there.

As for Barbara herself: I arrived jetlagged from the States, ready to launch into an apartment hunt, a little bleary and unready for too much interaction with strangers. Barbara, though, is warm but circumspect, readily available to help (advice about neighborhoods, lending a supply of power converters, brewing a pot of tea), but also occupied with her own activities. On the whole, I never felt as if I were interrupting, nor as if she wanted to keep track of me in any way. It felt rather like staying with a wise, kind older sister.

There are a resident dog and cat who are friendly and have good house manners, and Phoebe (the dog) will enthusiastically lure you into throwing a tennis ball for her if you're willing.

The tl;dr version: An excellent B&B experience, nearly perfect. If you can get a room here, absolutely do.

Hi I'm Barbara, and I am a great fan of AIRBNB , I first used it myself to find accommodation in Brooklyn a while ago, and it was such a good experience I decided to become a host, and now I am a total convert. I have been letting out a room on either a long or short term basis for many years , but just love the Airbnb way of doing things. My favorite things are travel and anything art/design/craft related, My background is as a theatre designer, but these days I run a small home based business making hand made craft kits for kids,.........Planet Purple Kids.........I love meeting new people from different parts of the world, and would like you to feel at home here. ....If you are new to airbnb and maybe a bit nervous, go on try it , really it is so much better than any standard bnb or hostel
