IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD you will find a mini mall called Austurver (100 m) with a pharmacy, bakery and a convenience store. If you are looking to shop a lot you should instead head for Kringlan which is only 350 meters away where you will find all the brands you are looking for and a huge Icelandic supermarket called Hagkaup. 1.500 metres away is the public bath Laugardalur with Reykjavik´s greatest swimming pool and spa. the Botanical Gardens which is a family park and zoo with most Icelandic animals both wild and domesticated.
If you head further 2.300 metres down south you will find yourself in downtown Reykjavik on the street Laugarvegur which is a shopping street with all the bars, clubs, restaurants and the harbor nearby.
The room was very clean and spacious. There was a well equipped shared kitchen and bathroom to use. There is a smaller room that is also rented out on airbnb. The bed is king size and very comfortable. The apartment is located about a 5 minute drive from town, we rented a car so getting around was easy. Unfortunately Gunnar was unwell so we did not meet him. I recommend the apartment as it is well priced.
Gunnar definetely replies fast and is willing to give information rgarding how to get there. I only stayed for a night and arrived really early, the room was ready and it looked better than here! I met Gunnar on that afternoon and he is a nice and reserved person. The room Had exactly everything my friends and I needed, and about 15 minutes drive to downtown. Everything was clean and neat. Just beware Icelandic water has a strong sulfur smell its not that the apartment smells its just the water when its running. I will be back to Iceland and might be back to this place :)
This was a wonderful space for our first few nights in Reykjavik. The space was great and the bed was super comfortable. An easy walk to downtown and also close to bus lines. Also, near the Kringlan mall for your shopping needs and a helpful point of reference. I would definitely recommend this space!
For me this was a lovely "home from home" stay as I know the area quite well. The room is spacious and has several amenities that make it feel very comfortable. These include a heavenly big bed, a comfortable couch and a good-sized coffee table. There is also a large wardrobe and a TV and DVD player. There are a selection of DVDs to watch if you have time. Reykjavik is my favourite city and there are lots of things to do but if inclement weather keeps you inside for a while this is a very pleasant place to be. There is a nice well-equipped kitchen which can also be used. There are bathroom facilities and - yay - a washing machine available. There is one small shopping mall very very close, plus the the Kringlan shopping mall which is very close. In spite of being not far from the main road into town the house is far enough away that it is very quiet. Although this place is not near the centre of town you can get there in a few minutes by using the frequent and convenient bus service that leaves from the main road. This is a terrific place to stay and Gunnar and his wife were extremely kind and flexible.
We (my girlfriend, friend and myself) all stayed with Gunnar for a week and his room was an absolute delight to come back to day after day. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well equiped and the space offered everything you could want from a home away from home.
Gunnar was always available, easily reached and a wonderful host!
The space itself is surrounded by everything you could need (multiple grocery stores, pharmacies, etc), very close walk to bus stops which will get you into downtown Reykjavik within minutes and if you stay out past bus hours it's a cheap (phone number hidden) ISK) cab ride back.
I can only give glowing reviews about our experience at Gunnar's home and can only hope to be staying there again when we visit in June!
The room was nice, clean and very big for the price. It was very convenient to have a kitchen. Gunnar was very welcoming and nice.
Gunnar was a great host, we could not have asked for better!
Gunnar's room was perfect for us. It's a wonderful price for a great place to stay in Reykjavik. The room itself was large, very clean, and comfortable. The kitchen (shared with one other room) had everything we needed to self cater, and there is a supermarket five minutes driving away (I'm sure it's walkable, as well). Gunnar came down after we settled in to check on us and see if we needed anything; it was a nice personal touch.
Gunner was really helpful before and during the stay. It was easy to check in and the room and kitchen were fine. It's about a 5 minute drive into town, maybe a 40 min walk (it was too cold for us to try). Room was cheaper than a hostel room, bed was good and you got a kitchen. Great value.
First of all Gunnar is a very kind and nice person!
We stayed there twice!
He answered promptly to our inquiry and once there he even helped us with our rented car which had a problem.
The room was really big and comfortable, the bed too! The bathroom and the shower were a little bit small but clean.
The house is in a quite and safe neighbourhood.
It was like being home away from home and this make our stay really enjoyable. I warmly recommend it!
