The Kailua Coconut is located in our back yard with its own private entrance. We work from home and can usually be found in our offices doing animation, illustration, making ipad/iphone apps or tiki mugs and tiles! We live on a cul-de-sac amongst a neighborhood of working families with children and pets in single family homes. Become a part of the real Hawaii and live like the locals do.
We have 1 dog that is not allowed in the Kailua Coconut or the back yard when guests are present. We respect your privacy and ask that you respect our neighbors as well.
••As of May 1st, 2013 - we will only accept reservations from Airbnb Verified Accounts. This is a safety concern for us and our neighbors.

Non-smokers only as we do not allow smoking anywhere on the property. No children under 18.
We are here to make your stay comfortable and unique! We can direct you to neat hikes, runs, bike rides or secret spots that we enjoy! Runners, bikers, hikers, triathletes, and Geocachers - we are here for you!
Note: We are a working ceramic studio and we do fire our pieces in our kiln here on property. When we do a firing, we vent our kiln and run a fan located on the opposite of the house from the Coconut. The fan is never on before 7am and is usually finished by 6pm. You will hear the fan, but it's not so loud that you can't talk on the phone or have a conversation. We fire, on average, 3-6 times per month so it is likely you won't even hear the fan while you are here.
You will have your own parking spot in our driveway, not shared with any other cars. You will also have access to 2 different decks with chairs, tables and an umbrella.
Interaction with Guests
We live and work out of our home so we are usually home all day. We are available to help with anything you may need or suggestions for hiking and eating. We will be here to greet you upon check-in and show you around. Sometimes we might never see our guests again, other times we go to lunch and dinner and hikes together - it's all up to you!
Kailua is a great town for walking and biking. It offers the beach, cafes, hiking, shopping, and restaurants that vary from cheap and quick to extragavant and expensive. Traffic can be a pain so save some money and walk or bike!
Save money and skip the rental car! We are in walking distance to everything! We offer airport pick up and drop off for $20 each way! Just let us know! If you want to explore the north shore or Waikiki for a day, we rent our car on Relay Rides for a day rate - easy and quick! No need to get charged for extra days you don't need! Let us know if you are interested in renting our car and we will send you the link. Other than that, Kailua is best enjoyed by bike or walking. The Bus is our main form of public transportation and we do have bus schedules for you!
Other Things to Note
This is a residential area with homes very close together. People sleep with their windows open and sounds carry. If you are looking for a place to hang out and party at night - this is NOT the place. Please stay in a hotel in Waikiki. If you are looking for peace and quiet and enjoy being awaken by birds, please join us as we would love to have you!
That being said, our neighbors have pets and kids. Expect to hear the sounds of kids during the day, people watching TV, people playing music (our neighbors a few houses away have a semi-decent Reggae band!). Dogs will bark, cats will meow, birds will chirp, geckos will chirp too! After 9 or 10pm though, it's VERY quiet! (Or I could't live here, trust me.)
No smoking on property - no exceptions - non-smoking guests only!
No drugs allowed
Quiet hours: 9pm - 7am please
Entry code is for registered guests only - do not share the code with anyone else
Please remove your shoes before entering the Coconut
Please respect our neighbors
No visitors allowed on property
Parking of 1 car is available and will be in a private driveway. Please do NOT park on the street
Need extra towels, linens, blankets? Let us know!
We are here to help! If anything comes up please feel free to text, call, email, or knock on our door!
I really felt very welcomed in the first second I met Denise and henrik... They are a very lovely and helpful couple.
The coconut was sooo pretty... I loved it! it's made with sooo much love, which you can see in every little single detail. Also the beach is around the corner. Everything is really how they explained it in their description :)
I wish I could have stayed longer!
Thank you both for this beautiful adventure and the best experience!
Denise & Henrik were really nice. Henrik offered to get us back and forth from the airport which was helpful.
The coconut house is well designed but a little small and it can get hot (we were there in a warm time...). We loved the outside shower and the little deck.
The Coconut is truly a product of love and creativity by two fantastic hosts! My experience began with an airport pick up, and despite some delays in off-boarding and collecting my baggage, Denise and Henrik were extremely patient and understanding. Both really go out of their way to make your stay special, whether it is with recommendations on the best eateries and hikes in the area or answering questions, Denise and Henrik make sure that you are taken care of properly. One word: AlohaMacs!! The Coconut exceeded my expectations, and has truly set the bar high for what I can consider a warm, welcoming, and truly relaxing stay anywhere else that's not there. The proximity to nearly everything you might need (i.e. Kailua Beach, Lanikai, Whole Foods, farmer's markets, and other eateries), was one of my favorite parts of my stay. The quiet, safe neighborhood with high walkability was a major plus! I would definitely recommend staying here during your next trip!
Great Micro-House, exactly as described. Very quiet residential neighborhood with nice hosts, which greet you friendly, but also leave you your privacy. Just be aware: There is no A/C (just a fan and natural cooling), no kitchen, not much space for clothing and baggage. If you can cope with this (I definitely could), this is the perfect place to stay.
Had a wonderful time here! Thank you Denise & Henrik (and Marizpan too!)
While the Coconut is quite small -- mostly because we had too much stuff with us -- it is very homey and lovely to hang in/around. We especially enjoyed the outdoor shower!
The design of the micro-home is so impressive. If you stay definitely take a look at the booklet they have made about the process of building it. It really gives you an appreciation for all the hard work and small details that make this place one-of-a-kind :)
Also, Denise and Henrik were so welcoming and friendly. They gave us lots of great suggestions, like to eat breakfast at Cinnamons. P.S. Skip over Boots & Kimo's and come straight here!
For lunch definitely recommend the restaurant inside Whole Foods. Lots of great beers on tap and the food was so good! Oh, and the Farmers Market on Sunday is very close and has was great stalls to wander also (kombucha and green smoothies! yum!!)
The beach (a quick 15-20 minute walk away) was absolutely amazing! I've heard it was rated one of the best in the world and I believe it!
We were sad to leave and wished we could've stayed a few more days!
Great location! 5 mins from everything you need! Neighborhood was very quiet, which is exactly what we wanted. Our host was great, very helpful with suggestions. Micro house was the perfect size for us :)
Denise & Henrik ...and Marzapan the dog!, are the nicest people and greet you with a warm welcome right when you get there! This house is amazingly built, and very smart. It has everything you need. I don't know what add from what the reviews already tell you. Best part is that shower... THE BEST idea they came up with! I can't wait to rent out the coconut again when coming to this area. I LOVED IT!
About the Host, Denise & Henrik
Business owners, Tiki Mug Maker, runner, triathlete and travel lovers! Our goal is to travel now, not when we retire. If we are not working, we're training and if we're not training, we are working so I can afford to train.
We like the quiet and wouldn't turn down the opportunity to hang in a hammock for an afternoon.
We feel it's important to have a place to stay that is within walking distance to what's "hot," a safe & clean place to keep our stuff, and a quiet place to sleep. As a business owner I find it important to have free access to wi-fi as well. Plus, it's great to access online resources while traveling!
