Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • What a great place to stay! Denise and Henrik were very welcoming and accommodating. We loved staying at the Coconut - it's so comfortable. The outdoor shower is amazing, the decking quiet and private. Kailua is a great location too. Loved it!

  • I had the most wonderful time staying at the Coconut! The space is perfect. Cozy in size, but lots of windows providing good light and and even better cross-breeze. The bed was comfy and I slept like a rock. The outdoor shower with hot and cold water was a bonus! The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful.

Kailua is small, so I enjoyed walking everywhere. 15 minutes to the beach and under ten to downtown. They airport pick-up/drop-off was hugely convenient. Even more so, they rent their car through Rally Rides! For a small fee I had a car at my doorstep for the day to cruise the island. Everyday just got better!

Denise and Henrik were wonderful hosts. Friendly, respectful and knowledgeable. Any questions I had were answered within minutes via text.

I recommend the Coconut to anyone looking for a quite time to reboot and refresh. I'm already telling all my friends to stay there and plan on returning myself, so you may need to book early!

  • The little Kailua Coconut was PERFECT for what I needed. I was traveling alone and checking out Kailua for two nights. If you have an appreciation for design and attention to detail, you will really enjoy this place! I thought it was so special that Denise and Henrik built the hut from the ground up. They really thought of everything that you might need...maps and tourism books, beach and bath towels, soap, cups, a little fridge. There is no air conditioning but plenty of windows and in March it was perfect. I would imagine in the summer if there was no breeze it would be pretty hot. I don't travel light so my bags took up a lot of room. I can't imagine two people and all of their stuff fitting. With the slanted sealing, tiny little washroom and built in bed it kind of feels like a cabin in a yacht! The outside shower is AWESOME! The landscaping and little deck with the chairs and table is a really nice touch. The backyard is fenced in so it is very private. The fence is shared with a house that has lots of loud children so sleeping in won't be an option!

I had a rental car and Denise let me park in the driveway which was very nice. Kailua Town is within walking distance. There is an awesome Wholefoods that has everything (including a bar) that you could need. There are some other shops and restaurants around. The beach is probably within walking distance but I drove.

I would definitely stay here again! Thanks for everything Denise & Henrik!

  • Our stay at Denise & Henrik's Coconut was our first Airbnb experience.
We don't believe that there could be a better one. They welcomed us as we were old friends. And as old friends do, they always were on hand with help and advice for us during our stay.
    Then there was the "Coconut":
    Absolutely mind blowing!
We've never seen such a beautiful place before. Every Detail was sooo cool. It perfectly fit into our Hawaiian adventure and made our stay on O'ahu even more unforgettable. We highly recommend this wonderful place to everyone planning a trip to the island.

  • We had a very good time in Kailua, and Coconut House was part of this!
Denise and Henrik put a lot of time and effort to build this really nice place and we are very happy to have been able to stay there.
Very clean, good sleeping, birds in the morning to wake you up, close to the beach to go and see the sunrise...
And at the end of the day a good shower outside!
From there you can easily explore the rest of the island or just stay in Kailua and enjoy the beach and the places around. Good restaurants and coffee in the neighborhood.
    We highly recommend the Micro-House!
Thank you Denise and Henrik! We hope to come again! :)

  • Henrik and Denise are lovely generous and warm people living the dream in Kailua which is a beautiful place. The micro- house is beautiful and a unique experience.

  • My finance and I fell in love with the Coconut house from the listing, and for good reason. During our stay we were in awe of the attention to detail in the construction and cleanliness of the Coconut. The location is great, the neighborhood is quiet, and within a 10 minute walk to grocery stores and the beach!

Denise was a fabulous host! She is very organized and friendly. She greeted us when we arrived, showed us the place, told us about the neighborhood, and gave awesome recommendations about great places to go in Kailua. Take her recommendation about eating at the restaurant/bar at Whole Foods. It was awesome.

We both wish we could have stayed longer as it was ideal for us to explore the wonderful town of Kailua.

If you would like to stay in a great location, with wonderful hosts, and in a building you'll remember for a very long time, stay at the Coconut.

    Response from Denise & Henrik:

Awww…thanks guys! We enjoyed having you and we are always so pleased to help others enjoy Kailua as much as we do!

  • Very nice host and the perfect little place to stay. The exact type of place you would hope to find on Air BnB. the owner put incredible craft into building this guest house. Location is good. Quiet neighborhood. Not far from the Beach. Could have stayed longer. Ideal for a couple looking to quiet getaway.

  • Super cute, small but very friendly place. If you are looking for quiet place to stay this is your choice. Friendly host, walking distance to the beach and town center, great stay !

    March 2014
  • Ah! Kailua! This was a spectacular surprise on our trip to Hawaii. We decided to stay in the town for a few days only because I found The Coconut and was smitten with it. Denise was out of town, so we met Henrik instead. Henrik was just a great guy, easy going, funny, helpful. We really appreciated the bus schedules, guide book, chocolates, personal notes, soap, etc. that he provided.

The Coconut is small and ever so sweet. The shower is great, as are the pillows! I felt rustic and unique, but it was also so clean and comfortable. You can walk to the beach for the day or rent a kayak. We also ran to the Pillboxes Trail for the sunrise. If you don't mind getting a few miles in everyday, you walk everywhere, including to Whole Foods, were we enjoyed $5 local beers and pizza slice combos and other tasty "bar" food (they have an indoor/outdoor bar at the store). The public buses also run good; we went north to see the Byodo-In temple.

Choose The Coconut; Kailua is a great locals towns, not too big or small, and the hosts are wonderful and inspiring.

Business owners, Tiki Mug Maker, runner, triathlete and travel lovers! Our goal is to travel now, not when we retire. If we are not working, we're training and if we're not training, we are working so I can afford to train. We like the quiet and wouldn't turn down the opportunity to hang in a hammock for an afternoon. We feel it's important to have a place to stay that is within walking distance to what's "hot," a safe & clean place to keep our stuff, and a quiet place to sleep. As a business owner I find it important to have free access to wi-fi as well. Plus, it's great to access online resources while traveling!
