About this listing
Incredibly central and well located 3 storey apartment (between the Grand Place and the Mannekin Pis if you know your sights). The apartment is 80m2 with a small south-facing, protected terrace and is exclusively yours for the time you are here.
My protected, private terrace to enjoy even for a ten-10 minute lunch between rain showers
It's on 3 floors - 1st living room/kitchen, 2nd large bedroom, 3rd bathroom (with a bath/shower and a window so natural light in the bathroom) and the optional sofa bedroom (if you are not a couple). The 'real' bed is a king size and the sofa-bed is a regular double. Despite two double beds I tend to limit the number of occupants to just 2 people except in occasional cases.
It's my home when I am in Brussels and I love it.
Triple-glazed so the street noise is cut to a minimum. It has a dishwasher, washing-machine, wifi and a piano (in case you want to practice).
The apartment is exclusively yours during your stay.
Interaction with Guests
As I am mostly away at the time of renting, you will be met by a friend to welcome and orientate you.
It's good to say your proposed itinerary when you reserve so that we can find the best solution. My cleaner and her daughter live nearby and are really very flexible and helpful but not available at all hours for check-in.
It's the very centre of the city next to the Grand Place. It's a lively neighbourhood with shops and bars and restaurants. At one end of the street is the 'gay village', at the other end is the Brussels Parliament. It's where a lot of people and things meet...
There is an online map of local amenities that I've filled out with restaurant and other suggestions nearby - the neighbourhood as I experience it, but please let me know if you discover some new top tips.
Basically as you will be in the very centre of the city it's perfect to discover the city on foot (and easy to find your way home for those, like me, with a poor sense of direction).
For public transport you have the tram/metro at the end of the street (La Bourse) and the Central Station is 8 minutes walk for the mainline trains. Oh and there's a Villo! station, for city bikes, in the street 25 metres away.
There's lots of other precise and detailed information about arriving by train or plane that you'll receive once you've reserved.
Other Things to Note
The fact that it's on 3 floors may not suit an older person - the apartment starts on the first floor (above a boutique) and there is no elevator. There are a lot of stairs - they are what keep the ceilings from being too low...
If check-in is not immediately available for when you plan to arrive or if you are leaving the city late and another guest is arriving, then there are lockers in the nearby central station that are very cheap (Midi Station too if that's where you are leaving from). Mostly we can work it out to leave the luggage in the apartment but it's good to know anyway.
I'm English but I speak French too. If you have any further questions in either language - just ask.
Unless you want to book for the entire month (never happened yet but possible) then I accept reservations 5 months in advance.
Otherwise I look forward to hearing from and maybe hosting you.
Smoking - only on the terrace please
Please carry (rather than bounce) your bags up the stairs when you arrive to avoid chipping the paintwork.
Some time ago I had several times people traveling "device free" who had trouble dialing from a payphone to alert us of their severe delays. If you are planning to travel this way then maybe let me know in advance and please make sure you have the necessary info and numbers to call if something goes wrong.
Felt very welcome from the start, the listing page is spot on and all details in the email were super helpful. Loved the place, beautiful inside and great location, couldn't have been closer to the action, all the restaurant and other advice very informative. Thanks Marc
My brother and I had a very good experience at Mark's apartment which is in 3 floors, the apartment was very clean and cosy, centre of everything! The only thing is we have to clim 2 floors if need to go to the toilet from the living room! Except of this, everything was perfect!
Mark's space is so lovely! Yes, tons of stairs but the warning/description in his ad is correctly and honest! They weren't a problem for us with medium sized cases. The small porch is lovely for breakfast and the space is creative and homely. Thanks to Mark for a wonderful stay, even though we only met him briefly. The location is perfectly central and right where you want to be!
Comfy apartment in an extremely convenient location - grand place and train station are within easy walking distance. Despite our flight being delayed and arriving later than we'd planned, check in was seamless and easy (we called Luis and he arrived within 2 minutes to let us in.)
The kitchen was stocked with everything you could need, the bathroom had plenty of towels and toiletries.
The terrace is perfect for breakfast or an evening drink.
The stairs are pretty narrow and slippery, and because each room is on a separate floor a lot of climbing is necessary. Perhaps something to consider if that could be an issue, but it was no problem for us.
Overall a great stay.
This quirky flat is in a brilliant location - you can walk everywhere. There are some great things about the flat: we liked the arty feel of the decor; the bed in the mainroom is huge and very comfortable; the cooking facilities are good; it was lovely having a piano (although our son would rather have had a television). The terrace would have been good if the weather had been although access is slightly awkward. One of the charms of the flat is that it is ranged over 3 floors but it's also a slight drawback the loo being on the top!
Although Mark wasn't around - charming Eric let us in - he answered any queries very promptly and helpfully.
About the Host, Mark
I am a contemporary dancer and choreographer living between Brussels, Toulouse and everywhere. Though originally from England I have lived in Belgium for 20 years. I love my job but all the travel means that my apartment is often unoccupied. It is my home so it's not a corporate-style lodging. I'm an organised tidy person so you won't feel like you are living in someone else's clutter but hopefully you'll feel very much at home too. I love living here and the chaos that is Brussels is yours to discover. I'll be away when you come to stay so please give details of your arrival so I can arrange for someone to be there to let you in and show you how things work, and if there's anything more you need, I will be on the end of the phone to help during your stay.
