About this listing
Incredibly central and well located 3 storey apartment (between the Grand Place and the Mannekin Pis if you know your sights). The apartment is 80m2 with a small south-facing, protected terrace and is exclusively yours for the time you are here.
My protected, private terrace to enjoy even for a ten-10 minute lunch between rain showers
It's on 3 floors - 1st living room/kitchen, 2nd large bedroom, 3rd bathroom (with a bath/shower and a window so natural light in the bathroom) and the optional sofa bedroom (if you are not a couple). The 'real' bed is a king size and the sofa-bed is a regular double. Despite two double beds I tend to limit the number of occupants to just 2 people except in occasional cases.
It's my home when I am in Brussels and I love it.
Triple-glazed so the street noise is cut to a minimum. It has a dishwasher, washing-machine, wifi and a piano (in case you want to practice).
The apartment is exclusively yours during your stay.
Interaction with Guests
As I am mostly away at the time of renting, you will be met by a friend to welcome and orientate you.
It's good to say your proposed itinerary when you reserve so that we can find the best solution. My cleaner and her daughter live nearby and are really very flexible and helpful but not available at all hours for check-in.
It's the very centre of the city next to the Grand Place. It's a lively neighbourhood with shops and bars and restaurants. At one end of the street is the 'gay village', at the other end is the Brussels Parliament. It's where a lot of people and things meet...
There is an online map of local amenities that I've filled out with restaurant and other suggestions nearby - the neighbourhood as I experience it, but please let me know if you discover some new top tips.
Basically as you will be in the very centre of the city it's perfect to discover the city on foot (and easy to find your way home for those, like me, with a poor sense of direction).
For public transport you have the tram/metro at the end of the street (La Bourse) and the Central Station is 8 minutes walk for the mainline trains. Oh and there's a Villo! station, for city bikes, in the street 25 metres away.
There's lots of other precise and detailed information about arriving by train or plane that you'll receive once you've reserved.
Other Things to Note
The fact that it's on 3 floors may not suit an older person - the apartment starts on the first floor (above a boutique) and there is no elevator. There are a lot of stairs - they are what keep the ceilings from being too low...
If check-in is not immediately available for when you plan to arrive or if you are leaving the city late and another guest is arriving, then there are lockers in the nearby central station that are very cheap (Midi Station too if that's where you are leaving from). Mostly we can work it out to leave the luggage in the apartment but it's good to know anyway.
I'm English but I speak French too. If you have any further questions in either language - just ask.
Unless you want to book for the entire month (never happened yet but possible) then I accept reservations 5 months in advance.
Otherwise I look forward to hearing from and maybe hosting you.
Smoking - only on the terrace please
Please carry (rather than bounce) your bags up the stairs when you arrive to avoid chipping the paintwork.
Some time ago I had several times people traveling "device free" who had trouble dialing from a payphone to alert us of their severe delays. If you are planning to travel this way then maybe let me know in advance and please make sure you have the necessary info and numbers to call if something goes wrong.
The aparment was cosy and beautiful, my family and I enjoy the stay very much. The location is right in the middle of the city centre with many attraction just a few minutes away, same with the metro station. Mark easy to contact when there are problem. I really enjoy my stay in Mark's apartment and my holiday in Brussels. Would definitely recommend this place
The apartment was great, loved staying here. It's very central and really easy to get around. Beds were comfy, and loved tinkering on the piano. Getting the key and information was easy, really liked Mark's recommendations about the surrounding neighbourhood.
Perfect location! The apartment is lovely.
The apartment doesn't have lift. That was uncomfortable for me because we had a lot of luggage.
The stairs were quite slippy and tight, which you should pay attention to at night.
It's a wonderful apartment, just perfect for a visit to Brussels! Very central, well equipped, and I love the terrasse. I would recommend it to anyone who likes to stay in a really central place: cafés, restaurants, shops and of course many tourist attractions in just a few minutes walk.
This apartment gets 10 of 10 Points!
- quick and easy communication
- everything as discripted!
Thanks a lot Marc. We surly come back!
About the Host, Mark
I am a contemporary dancer and choreographer living between Brussels, Toulouse and everywhere. Though originally from England I have lived in Belgium for 20 years. I love my job but all the travel means that my apartment is often unoccupied. It is my home so it's not a corporate-style lodging. I'm an organised tidy person so you won't feel like you are living in someone else's clutter but hopefully you'll feel very much at home too. I love living here and the chaos that is Brussels is yours to discover. I'll be away when you come to stay so please give details of your arrival so I can arrange for someone to be there to let you in and show you how things work, and if there's anything more you need, I will be on the end of the phone to help during your stay.
