Traveling to Ireland and wish to have a real taste of Donegal? Then Castle Kenny cottage is where you should stay. A 150 year old cosy family cottage that sleeps 5, big garden and patio, fireplace and only 5 minute to the beach.
We would like to introduce you to our real Irish cottage, called "Castle Kenny". The cottage is located in the northwestern province of Donegal, one of the most rugged and beautiful areas of Ireland. This area, with its beautiful mountains, pristine nature and the beautiful coast is a must-see on your holiday to Ireland.
The rumor goes that the cottage is built on or near the remains of a castle. This castle would have been the property of the O'Boyle family and stood in an area called Castle Kenny had. That's where the name of the cottage comes from.
The cottage is a real Irish cottage with recognizable features such as thick walls, small windows, fireplace and only one floor. In addition, the cottage has 2 sheds where the necessary turf, coal, wood and tools are stored.
The cottage consists of a small, cozy living room, separate dining room, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. The so-called master bedroom is a spacious room features a double bed. The second bedroom has two single beds. Both rooms also have ample storage. The dining room is a sofa bed suitable for 1 or 2 persons. The cottage is perfect for 4 people, but could also be used for 5 people.
The outdoor area around the cottage is quite large. At the front part where 2 cars can be parked. The rear of the cottage has a large terrace with outdoor furniture. Furthermore, the cottage has a huge lawn and beautiful plants and trees. Ideal for children to enjoy playing.
TV with satellite
The only area off limit is the attic as we keep our own stuff there.
Interaction with Guests
As much interaction as needed. Guests have my email adress and cellphone number when needed. Our housemanager Edith will be able to stop by if that is something our guests would like.
The area is quite peaceful with only 2 holiday homes surrounding it. One of them is a real old cottage as well. The cottage is situated in the hills giving you a rural feeling. Quite close to the highway, so you can hear cars passing by.
The easiest way to get around is by car. Free parking at the cottage for 4 cars (you can park in the garden too if required). You can also take the bus, but please check timings (Bus Éireann) as they don't go so regularly. Best stops are Frosses and Ardaghey Crossroads
Other Things to Note
no extra details. Please contact met when you have a question
No rules. Just common sense. We will send you the directions and the manual of the cottage whenever your reservation is complete.
Cottage was lovely, just as pictured, and fairly easy to find with directions. The heat having been turned on and a welcoming fresh apple pie were lovely touches. The kitchen is small but well-equipped, with staples like teas, coffee, sugar, spices, cooking and olive oil, etc.; and the house is clean, nicely decorated, and cozy. My friends and I and my dog really enjoyed the place and we all settled in very comfortably. We spent a lovely time at Rossnowlagh Beach and lunched at Smuggers Creek Inn. The garden was a nice size for the dog to run around. Very relaxing, quiet, and beautiful place to chill out!
The reservation was canceled 137 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Bryan´s cottage is just amazing, it is exactly as described and with all the information we got it was easy to get there. If you want to spend a weekend away is the perfect place to be, it is in a quite area but everything is close. Thanks for everything Bryan and also for the delicious apple pie we found when we arrived! :)
Great place to stay! So close to Donegal town, yet surrounded by countryside. Place was warm and comfy, couldn't ask for more. In fact the heating was already on when we arrived, which on the cold, miserable night that travelled out was much appreciated!
I stayed here while in the area for a work trip. Bryan was very helpful and arranged for the house manager Edith to walk my dogs during the day while I was out which was brilliant. Edith was very friendly and great with the dogs. Its hard enough to find accommodation that will accept dogs let alone get a dog walker too. :) The area was safe enough to let the dogs off in the garden for a run which was brilliant. The house was cosy and as described. Bryan was also excellent for replying and helping me out with booking issues on the website.
Excellent quite retreat over New Years. House was nice an warm for us on arrival. Instructions very clear where to find keys etc.
the cottage is clean and tidy as ever. There was everything we needed for out stay. Would defiantly go back! Location is excellent close to Donegal town, Ardara and good beaches.
Our correspondence with Bryan was quite satisfactory and his directions to the cottage were spot on. He gave us plenty of information about the cottage and a local contact number if we had any problems at all. We found our stay peaceful, restful and comfortable. The photos online were accurate and the large apple pie on arrival was a lovely touch.
