Traveling to Ireland and wish to have a real taste of Donegal? Then Castle Kenny cottage is where you should stay. A 150 year old cosy family cottage that sleeps 5, big garden and patio, fireplace and only 5 minute to the beach.

The Space

We would like to introduce you to our real Irish cottage, called "Castle Kenny". The cottage is located in the northwestern province of Donegal, one of the most rugged and beautiful areas of Ireland. This area, with its beautiful mountains, pristine nature and the beautiful coast is a must-see on your holiday to Ireland.

The rumor goes that the cottage is built on or near the remains of a castle. This castle would have been the property of the O'Boyle family and stood in an area called Castle Kenny had. That's where the name of the cottage comes from.

The cottage is a real Irish cottage with recognizable features such as thick walls, small windows, fireplace and only one floor. In addition, the cottage has 2 sheds where the necessary turf, coal, wood and tools are stored.

The cottage consists of a small, cozy living room, separate dining room, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. The so-called master bedroom is a spacious room features a double bed. The second bedroom has two single beds. Both rooms also have ample storage. The dining room is a sofa bed suitable for 1 or 2 persons. The cottage is perfect for 4 people, but could also be used for 5 people.

The outdoor area around the cottage is quite large. At the front part where 2 cars can be parked. The rear of the cottage has a large terrace with outdoor furniture. Furthermore, the cottage has a huge lawn and beautiful plants and trees. Ideal for children to enjoy playing.

Guest Access

The only area off limit is the attic as we keep our own stuff there.

Interaction with Guests

As much interaction as needed. Guests have my email adress and cellphone number when needed. Our housemanager Edith will be able to stop by if that is something our guests would like.

The Neighborhood

The area is quite peaceful with only 2 holiday homes surrounding it. One of them is a real old cottage as well. The cottage is situated in the hills giving you a rural feeling. Quite close to the highway, so you can hear cars passing by.

Getting around

The easiest way to get around is by car. Free parking at the cottage for 4 cars (you can park in the garden too if required). You can also take the bus, but please check timings (Bus Éireann) as they don't go so regularly. Best stops are Frosses and Ardaghey Crossroads

  • I spent three nights here with three of my friends. The whole stay was amazing. The backyard was great for breakfasts outside in the sun and the grass for afternoon napping. The house amenities were all in order except for a dirty microwave, but it did not cause us any problems as we cooked most of our food in the oven and using the stove.

The shower had plenty of hot water for all four of us and the beds provided were very comfortable, the bedsofa was also very comfortable.

I would definitely recommend anybody to stay here. It's close to Inver beach, Fintra strand and the amazing St John's Point for watching sunsets.

  • Castlekenny is a fantastic, cozy, well equipped cottage, and a great location for exploring Donegal. The house is well maintained, clean and superbly organized.

We so enjoyed sitting in front of the fire reading the house books on local history, and I was so happy that the wood, peat, and coal was provided. The cottage is well equipped and has everything you need for your stay.

Bryan is an incredibly accommodating and attentive host and made sure everything was taken care of and the house was ready for us on short notice. Communication was easy and thorough.

I highly recommend this cottage for a stay on Donegal and would definitely return.

  • Really amazing few days in Donegal. The cottage feels in the middle of nowhere, yet it's only 10 minutes by car from Donegal town. Go here and rent a car like we did and travel through beautiful Donegal. The cottage is is spacious enough for 5 people, cute, has all commodities. We went in wintertime, but the big garden would be great for barbeques and late nights sitting outside. Bryan was really friendly, easy to communicate with, very quick to respond to any questions I had and he made sure that we had everything we could possibly need in the cottage. Cannot think of any negatives here, definitely recommend this place if you're thinking of going to Donegal!

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Bryan's cottage in beautiful Donegal. It's a lovely, cosy house with everything you need, including Dutch cheese slicers haha! We lit the fire, had a glass of wine... perfection. It's an ideal location to start your discovery of Ireland's most beautiful county. Bryan was great to deal with over e-mail, he was very friendly and provided excellent, clear communication about the usage of the cottage and they made us feel very welcome with the apple pie that awaited us on arrival. We'd love to go again!

  • This cottage in Donegal is a very charming place. Recommended for those who like running away from hectic city life, creating their own world, silence, slow rhythm, magic.
All people we bumped into in this area were so kind and friendly.
Bryan was very prompt in answering our questions and helpful giving us detailed informations about the cottage, directions and places around.
    Thank you Bryan!

  • My fiancé and I stayed at Bryan's homely cottage for a weekend. It was very peaceful and truly a pleasure to be able to stay in such an authentic, quaint old Irish cottage. We were greeted with a fresh apple tart and the turf fire prepared ready for us to enjoy. It really was a wonderful experience. We were able to drive to Slieve Leaugh Cliffs and Port Noo/ Narin beaches which were stunning. From the cottage we took bikes to cycle around the local areas and visit some beaches nearby for picnics. Donegal is a beautiful county to visit. The house itself retains all the features of old Irish homes and has beautiful character to create a warm and cosy cottage experience. It reminded me of my childhood in Ireland visiting my own grandparents so brought back lots of wonderful memories. Thanks for having us in your home.

  • Bryan's cottage is absolutely perfect. It really is rural and if you are looking for a break away I would thoroughly recommend it. You can see when you arrive that the cottage is really cared for and loved and the added bonus of the apple pie on arrival is the cherry on the cake. I don't have a negative thing to say about my stay.
