Our host was very helpful on the front end and gave very good directions to his flat and the village it was in and would answer any questions asked. He was very accessible and would answer emails and questions unbelievably promptly. It was accessible for our needs to all parts of London and an easy walk to shops and restaurants at night. The flat is a nice size for two people. A reminder to all who visit England to bring an adapter or two for your electric things.
David was great to deal with, very helpful and easy going. The flat was as advertised and well located with Clapham North tube, and a good number of shops/supermarkets nearby within 5 mins walk. The flat itself had everything we needed to base ourselves for a week in London. Highly recommend David and his apartment.
David was a very accommodating host, taking care to make sure key pickup was not an issue, and that our use of his flat was as flexible as we needed. The location was very handy to both the tube and overground train services, and provisions were easy with a choice of supermarkets and a great greengrocer just down the street. The locality was amazingly quiet, despite being so handy to the high street, and within easy walking distance of a large range of eateries. We had a great few days in our Clapham base.
Good stay in London.
Pleasant apartment, in compliance with the description.
Very nice district, close to transport (subway and bus)
Flat was very well equipped, well sized and (website hidden) David was very nice. Great experience overall of our first air bnb.
David was prompt and forthcoming during booking and check in / out timing was convenient.
Check in was simple and instructions were concise. Collecting keys and knowing where things were. Seems simple enough.
David took out extra clean sheets for the sofa and provided extra pillows, which was nice. He also came back on the next day to fix the shower knob and find a hairdryer for us, which we are grateful for.
Location is in a quiet area, about 600m away from the main street. There are buses and an underground station (clapham north) within a couple of hundred metres of the high street and the street had plenty of good restaurants (we tried esca, eco, fish club > all great) and convenience stores (sainsbury, tesco and one local).
This being our very first airbnb booking, so had a number of silly oversights, misunderstandings that caused David displeasure. Our sincere apologies.
Realize that different people / cultures have different norms / definitions / figures of speech so better to instruct / ask specifically next time.
To address David's points,
1) About the locking of doors, we were quite scared / shocked when we returned on the first day to an open door... Nothing was lost though which was a huge relief. We then learnt first hand that we have to turn the key to lock the door.
Silly as it may sound, I had really honestly interpreted his instructions to be where closing the door would suffice.
2) What was a minor (yet big) concern though was a huge mirror directly across from the bed, and the wardrobe beside the bed was also fitted with full length mirrors. Culturally, this is a taboo and we only discovered this inconvenience at night before bed time; so had to remove the mirror and block out the wardrobe mirror with luggage at first, and whatever pillows we can find on the last night. We neglected to put these pillows / mirrors back and we do apologize.
3) We had had to use the toilet just before leaving in the early morning, and we flushed.. perhaps it wasnt cleanly flushed but certainly it wasnt anywhere near "heavily soiled".
4) we didn't touch / do anything with the heating so not sure how we had inadvertently turned it on
5) I was in charge of cleaning up and didnt pay attention / ask wife where bins were and left them on kitchen floor in bags. My bad and apologies.
6) Left 2 sets of cutlery, cups and plates unwashed in the sink. Ignorant that we needed to wash up, wasnt told, so again, our bad and apologies.
A point of our own
1) A particular need for us was to have a hard bed for my wife, as she has a bad back. We were told that the bed was firm, but not sure how firm; we found it to be very soft though, again highlighting different norms / definitions / figures of speech
David was very kind. He offered us information and help if we would need. Apartment was very well. Cozy, wide for a couple and it had all you needed. The train was close the apartment but it didn't run at night. Neighborhood was quiet but very close you had a comercial street with supermarkets, restaurants, and a big park. Also, several buses lines, and clapham north tube station was 5 minutes walk.
Our stay in David's apartment was perfect! I can't say enough about this place.
Clapham is such a cute area, (email hidden)ly night life (especially on weekends). There are always bars and restaurants open. There are grocery stores, coffee shops, and boutique shops in walking distance. There wasn't anything we needed that we didn't find in Clapham. The neighborhood is so cute and charming, and we felt VERY safe walking at all hours. Make sure you go to the Fish Club and meet Steve who works there - he was so helpful, and gave us tips about our trip to Paris. Also make sure you go shopping in the Old Town area - such cute shops.
The Clapham North tube station is about an 8 minute walk from the flat. We could get into London in about 25 minutes. If you are wanting a more touristy experience, it might be better to stay closer to the city. However, we were looking for a more authentic, local experience and feel we got exactly that by staying at David's flat.
Also it takes a little over an hour to get from Heathrow to the flat. David was very helpful and told me ahead of time the route to take to get to Clapham. Even though it's a long train ride, it's very simple.
Everything was perfect! David was so great at communicating with us, and being flexible with our schedule. We couldn't have asked (email hidden), or apartment. The living room is so lovely, and we relaxed in there after days of walking all over. We were very sad to leave "our London home" at the end of the trip.
I can't say enough about this flat! I would absolutely recommend staying here for any trip to London, and I'd LOVE to go back and stay here again.
The overground train runs behind the apartment, and can be kind of loud at times. Also sound travels easily from apartment to apartment, so if you're a light sleeper, you might want to stay somewhere else. There were renovations going on in another apartment that woke us up one morning. Not a big deal for us, but just wanted to point that out!
We actually booked this flat because of the balcony, which ended up overlooking the train tracks. It was too cold to utilize it anyway, and the rest of the apartment was so spectacular that we didn't even care about not using a balcony!
A wonderful experience! We arrived quite late in the evening due to an underground strike and David sent me a message in the morning to tell me this. David welcomed us at the tube station and walked us to his flat. He was waiting for our arrival. The fat is as shown on the photos, cosy, sunny, comfortable, very clean and very well arranged. The location is perfect, 10 minutes to the station and the neighborhood is pleasant, safe and typically English. Everything is near: groceries, pubs... The Tube line is very convenient to visit London. David is a very pleasant host who takes the time to explain everything. I would highly recommend this location, it's perfect!!! Thanks a lot David!!!
This is a great flat. Easy access and room for small scale entertaining.
My wife and I did not meet David but my daughter and her husband liaised.
The area is good, the neighbours and the local railway line are quiet.
