About This Listing
*PLEASE* do not make a booking request and then ask for dates that are not available on the calendar. The apartment is only available when we are not in it.
This large, sunny apartment is in the quiet, leafy city-center location of east Shinjuku ward, near Akasaka palace - an 8-minute walk to Yotsuya station (JR Chuo line, Tokyo Metro Marunouchi and Namboku lines). This is the largest apartment for this location and price on AirBnB. The price is set low as dates available are very specific (see note at the bottom of this description).

The apartment offers fantastic space with a completely separate tatami bedroom. Doors between the lounge and kitchen can be put in place to separate these two rooms, if desired.

Interaction with Guests
Generally we are away from Japan during your stay, but a list of emergency contacts for lost keys, etc. is included in the information provided for you on arrival.
Wakaba is a part of Tera-machi or "Temple Town." There are many temples with long and distinguished histories around Yotsuya's quiet residential slopes and alleys, mere meters away from busy Shinjuku-dori. The apartment is located on Teppo-zaka slope, part of a touring promenade course.
It is just a 1-minute walk from Restaurant Hôtel de Mikuni ((website hidden))
Less than 1-minute walk to Marusho supermarket and Sunkus 24-hour convenience store.
The apartment is located just 8 minutes walk from Yotsuya station (JR, Marunouchi and Namboku subway lines). At Yotsuya station: Paul (French bakery), Starbucks, Seijo Ishii import supermarket and countless restaurants, cafes and shops.
Other Things to Note
Fantastically located apartment with good space and everything you need. The apartment is up just a few stairs, and one level above street level. The neighborhood is very quiet, but there is a supermarket and 24-hour convenience store less than 1-minute walk away. As this is a concrete building there is less concern about noise from neighboring apartments.
No smoking is allowed in the apartment or on the balcony. As this is a proper Japanese apartment, absolutely under no circumstances can shoes be worn inside. Garbage needs to be taken out with guests on departure.
Jim's place was great and communication from him was very prompt and always informative. It made finding his place and staying in Tokyo a breeze. The apartment is large by Tokyo standards and has all the things you could possibly want in a place when you are on holidays. It was only a short walk to the station and to many places to eat. It also seemed to be a very nice area overall. Next time I stay in Tokyo I will definitely be looking to stay here again!
Jim's place is an excellent choice if you need to stay in central Tokyo. We enjoyed it very much! It's just as it is described on the website and is large enough for a couple to feel comfortable. The area is also very nice and quiet, and well connected and central too. Moreover, Jim would help you with anything you need before and during your stay. You would be lucky if you get the opportunity to stay at his appartment. Thank you, Jim!
This is a fantastic place to use as a homebase for exploring Tokyo. Pretty huge for a downtown Tokyo apartment, and very conveniently close to 2 metro lines and the JR (also really good soup place in the station mm). Jim is so nice and takes a lot of time to answer your questions and and explain all the appliances, garbage days, everything you would need to know (thanks!! I would not have been able to navigate the heater without your Kanji translations!). The place is very comfy and has everything you need for an extended stay. It was super snowy when we got there and Jim's place was perfect for holing up until the weather got a bit better. We had a great time!!!
Jim's place is in a quiet neighbourhood a short walk from the subway and JR lines at Yotsuya. IT really is the perfect location where the tranquility of the neighbourhood means you can sleep undisturbed at night and you're only 1 stop away from Shinjuku and the hustle and bustle of the city on the Chuo Rapid line.
There's a couple of shops less than 2 minutes walk away, one of which is 24hr as well as the ubiquitous drinks vending machines which are great on your way out on a hot morning, or on the way home. Grab a grapefruit Mets! very refreshing.
The apartment is actually bigger in real life than the pictures make it seem. There were 2 of us and it was the perfect size for us. There's also an additional roll out futon style bed if you want to fit more people in too.
Jim sent some excellent and very helpful emails, including helping us out with train times for a very early flight out on our last day. Thanks for that Jim! It was really useful!
The pocket WiFi was excellent, definitely a good touch in a city with little English to help with translations and travel plans (provided you have a smart phone or tablet etc.. to carry about with you)
All in all an excellent stay and a great base for seeing Tokyo. ad to that Jim's great communication and help and you're on to a winner.
This was a great place to stay in Tokyo! You'd be lucky if you can stay here for the price, spaciousness and location. Our stay was a week long, my first visit to Japan. We walked the area every day, visiting gardens, popping into restaurants, relaxing in the cool apartment. We enjoyed the neighborhood which was not touristy but well located for our purposes. The best feature was the very comfortable futon. We slept very well! The furnishings are simple but the apartment had everything we needed. Living in another country is a challenge - and we were a bit confused by the washing machine (resolved after getting more info on the web) and the recycling (understood after a prompt email from Jim). We'd definitely stay here again if ever in Tokyo!
A friend and I stayed for almost a month in Jim's apartment and it was almost like staying at our own home.
Jim's been very nice and helpful as a host, very fast answering any doubt we had and providing all the necessary information.
Everything wasn't just as we expected. It was better. The photos can't show it very well, but it's very spacious and there's always light coming from the main window. It also has all the amenities listed, working perfectly.
Given the chance, we'd totally repeat the experience there if possible.

About the Host, Jim And Heath
We (Jim and Heath) are university lecturers and we share our time between Tokyo and Dublin. In Dublin, we have a 3 bedroom home, very comfortable, quiet, and in the city center. This cottage house has underfloor heating throughout so it is very warm and cosy. We let the house out whenever we are away. We have already hosted a number of excellent guests since moving into the house in December 2013. In Tokyo we have a very comfortable, quiet apartment in the city center. We have let out our home while we are away since moving to Tokyo in 2004. We are homeowners and permanent residents, and we take very good care of our homes. We love both Dublin and Tokyo and we are happy to help out travelers looking for a great deal on a comfortable home away from home.
