Magical Estate in Wine Country!

House - Entire home/apt · Twin Sisters Rd, Fairfield, CA 94534, United States

The Space

Welcome to the estate we lovingly call, "Compound Joy"!

The tree-lined, dappled sunlit approach to our property on Mt. Twin Sisters feels like you are entering a mystical and magical land. As soon as you set foot on the property, your whole family or group will smile, feeling right at home in casual comfort and elegance.

With 6 bedrooms and 3.5 baths, you have your choice from king-size bed with adjoining bathroom privacy to 6 bunk beds for the kids or others in your entourage. Perfect for a family retreat, your own version of "The Big Chill" type of reunion, or group spiritual journey.

In fact, the house decor is intended to evoke peacefulness, energetic renewal and conscious expansion. A Native American ceremonial drum and other percussion instruments are available for your soul awakening, group bonding and delicious JOY!

We're on 20 acres, so expect all the quiet and privacy you can fathom... and enjoy the panoramic views of Suisun Valley.

We're 20 minutes drive from downtown Napa, only an hour from both San Francisco and Sacramento. Local wineries are within a 5 minute drive. The local Jelly Belly factory is a few miles away and great fun for kids of all ages! From June through December, nearby Larry's Produce is a throwback to a simpler time of getting fresh, locally grown food at prices that will make you smile. Trader Joe's and Safeway are about 10 minutes away. The highly rated, Mankas Tapas & Steakhouse, is also only a mile away.

The solar heated pool is sheer delight (in season). Given our unique micro-climate on Mt. Twin Sisters in bucolic Suisun Valley (rarely found in the Bay Area), you may enjoy a warm summer evening stroll or dip in the pool or soak in the hot tub under the stars. Large kitchen area connecting to indoor dining room makes meal preparation a fun social event. Or grill outside and have your meal outside on the deck or poolside.

We have wi-fi internet access, 60 inch TV, DVD player, iPod ready speakers, ping pong, tennis court, basketball hoop, outdoor gas grill, built-in charcoal grill, 10kw solar panels and fire pit to make Compound Joy your very own playground as well as sanctuary. And if you appreciate wildlife, we have regular visitors including deer, wild turkeys, hawks (and doves!), hummingbirds, rabbits and lizards. Feel free to hike our 20 acres or walk up the road for breathtaking views.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

  • What a phenomenal place!

We had 15 guests stay over for a night and took a limo from the house down to wine country. Here is a quick summary of the place:

    1) It's huge! If you're worried about fitting 10-15 guests, you really don't have to. We had 15 people in the house and you can easily get lost
    2) Amenities - B-ball court, hot tub, pool, good kitchen. Even though you're far away from any part of a city there's plenty to do at this place
    3) Beds - They were all comfortable
    4) Stuart - Super easy to work with and excellent at being patient with you while your plans are still getting settled
    5) Peaceful location - We wanted to get away from the city for a day and it was the first time a many of us felt "disconnected" from work and other things. Felt good to have some peaceful time with friends.

    1) Cleanliness - In particular the pool. There was some grime on the floor of the pool.
    2) Not that close to napa - We took a limo from the house to Rutherford wineries and it took about 45 minutes. If you're looking for a quick retreat back to a place this isn't necessarily the right location.

Overall, great experience and I would definitely come back again.

    Response from Stuart:

We take great care and pride in providing our guests with a wonderful getaway here. I'd like to address the cons: We have a professional cleaning crew come in before each guest for inside the house. Even though the pool was highlighted for lack of cleanliness, I trust the inside of the house was clean, if not immaculate.

The pool is cared for by our pool service every Thursday. We did have guests leaving on Saturday morning, and I wasn't on the premises to examine the pool before Atul arrived. I'm sorry there was some grime there - normally, I would clean it (website hidden) Location: We are about one mile SE of Napa, 25 minutes to Silverado Trail and the southern part of Napa Valley. Rutherford is a little further north. That said, many of our guests tour Napa wineries from here and claim to enjoy the leisurely pace and proximity isn't an issue for them.

Atul, hope you return soon. I look forward to meeting you next time!

  • This house was perfect for our large group of 9! We stayed here after an afternoon in wine country.

    - Stuart was very easy to communicate with (responded quickly to messages and calls) and accommodating of our arrival time
    - There was a really nice outdoor deck with patio tables/chairs and charcoal grill
    - Lots of space to hang out including a ping pong table in the garage, large kitchen, basketball court, huge room with TV
    - House is on a beautiful property
    - Great breakfast place nearby (Valley Cafe)

    - Hot tub and fire pit are not available yet
    - We noticed a lot of doors that opened to the outside had broken locks

    Thanks, Stuart!

    Response from Stuart:

Yes, we have experienced some delays in finishing our outdoor upgrading of the property which has led to the fire pit and hot tub being out of service. To my knowledge, all the doors than open to the outside do have functioning locks. Grace, please let me know what doors in particular you are referring to.

Thank you again for staying here! Hope you come back soon... with hot tub and fire pit raring to go!

  • Stuart was a fantastic host. He is very responsive and thoughtful. The property was exactly as described and the outdoor area - pool, bbq and dinner table - surpassed my expectations. It was perfect for my group of 14 - everyone had a lot of space and there were plenty of communal areas that could sit everyone.

  • Our group of 12 came into Napa Valley for an event and wanted a place where we could all wind down and hang out together. Stuart's house in Fairfield was an excellent option! Everyone couldn't stop saying how nice and big the area was and how nice it would be to stay for a longer time. Everything worked like clockwork. Thank you so much for a great experience!

  • Our tech startup went here for a retreat and had a great time! Highlights included cooking in the big open kitchen, swimming in the pool on a warm evening, and staying up late in the hot tub sharing stories. The place is great for groups to go hang out, relax and do strategy planning, etc (in the Great Room... which is a wide open room with lots of comfy couches). It was a great experience and we would definitely recommend this house to others who are looking for a nice place to stay.

    Response from Stuart:

So glad you and your team enjoyed your time here... and even accomplished some strategy planning! Please come back soon!

  • Our team of eight had a great time staying at Stuart's wine country estate! Although our stay was short, we got great value out of the expansive home and outdoor amenities.

The 6 bedrooms allowed almost everyone to have their own room, while the wide open common areas made for a perfect group collaboration space during our company retreat.

The outdoor amenities nicely rounded out our stay -- the pool was a pleasure was perfectly suited for cooling off in the 80 degree sun, right after a work session under the veranda nearby.

Stuart and his cleaning team are great hosts and I'd highly recommend the property for work retreats or personal gatherings.

Kieran, It was an absolute pleasure to host your time here! Please return soon!

  • This place was the perfect getaway for Gabe's company retreat. There was something for everyone and room to spread out - it felt really expansive, a nice and welcome change of pace from life in San Francisco! We had a group of 15 people and everyone was very comfortable - we'd definitely try to stay again next time we get a group together! Only next time we want to check out the shooting range nearby!

Stuart himself is an extremely gracious host as well, making sure we had everything we needed before we even arrived!

  • We had a blast at Stuart's property. Everything is as advertised; the pool was clean and warm, the house large and also plenty clean, the property gorgeous. Stuart was a great host as he made us feel welcomed and was always there for any question or when we needed anything. I'd recommend the place to any group looking for a fun place to call home for a weekend (or longer). Thanks, again, for everything, Stuart!

    Response from Stuart:

Adrian - you are your friends were an absolute joy to host! I look forward to your return in the near future! Wishing you great things always! Stuart

  • Our retreat group found the space absolutely perfect for nearly everything: discussions, breakout sessions, meditation areas, food prep and dining areas, free time spaces and sleeping accommodations. Even with its relatively minor problems, it works and has nice energy.
The surrounding area is beautiful - but DO take caution and check for ticks!; they're alive and well along the grassy trails. The location is perfect for anyone needing a large space in the northern CA region. Easy to reach and well-away from the sounds of the city and freeways.
Our less-than positive comments all relate to the home simply needing a lot of TLC!!! Temperatures were near 100 and few of the ceiling fans were working. Had we been able to use them we'd all have felt more comfortable. The AC isn't adequate for the size of the house, and it doesn't have an outlet in the "grand room" where we held all of our sessions. That room (email hidden) unit, but it was SO loud we couldn't use it; no one could hear when it was running!!
Generally speaking, the property (both inside and out) is in need of a great deal of care. Everything from minor fixes (poor light fixtures, inoperable ceiling fans, wobbly toilets, broken window coverings, windows that are very difficult to open, etc), to a complete lack of landscape upkeep, a poorly maintained pool with few working lights, dangerous decking (warped boards, loose nails, huge splinters, etc), and dead or dying plants, making the outside area very uninviting.
However, none of these factors kept us from having a highly successful retreat and a fun time!! Even with the general lack of money being spent on fixes and upkeep we are likely to use the home again for our retreats, simply because it works, the energy is good, and, we can see that repairs are slowly being made.
The host, Stuart, is great!! He's a good, clear and rapid communicator, very concerned that our stay was good. He made certain we had everything we needed, sincerely hoped we'd be happy and comfortable, and did what he could to ensure that.
I also had occasion to meet the cleaning staff; they were great! Kind, caring, joyful, efficient, and equally concerned that we were happy with our stay.
I'm certain we'll be returning to this home for future retreats. I'm also fairly sure that work is underway to fix and correct things that need attention, which will likely make our next stay even better!!
Thank you Stuart, the two joyful cleaning staff women, and Air B&B for a great retreat stay at the "Magic Estate"!!

    Response from Stuart:

First of all, I am so glad that you had a successful retreat here and that you stated your intention to return! (your comments about the need for greater upkeep notwithstanding!)

Secondly, the owners of the property (I am the host and caretaker) have extensive plans over the rest of this year to significantly improve the property inside and out. This includes replacing all ceiling fans, new stove and kitchen counter tops, deck repair, swimming pool remodeling and landscaping (design plans have already been submitted).

I can assure that you will love the improvements the next time you host your retreat here!

Thank you again for your patronage and feedback!

  • My friends and I had a great time at Magical Estate! There were 20 of us and we loved having a place to cook and eat together, as well as soak up the sun pool-side. We're looking forward to coming back in the future for our next mini weekend getaway.

    Thanks for hosting us, Stuart!

Doris, such a joy to host you and your friends! Looking forward to your return! Stuart
