Lovely Kollwitzplatz - Apartment

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Sredzkistraße, Berlin, Berlin 10435, Germany

Newly renovated 55 square meter (590 sf) apartment in an original pre-war Berlin building situated in the heart of Prenzlauer Berg, Kollwitzplatz!

The Space

This newly renovated 55 square meter (590 sf) apartment in an original pre-war Berlin building is situated in the heart of Prenzlauer Berg, Kollwitzplatz. This apartment is owned by my parents who themselves stay here when they visit Berlin.

The area is known for its bustling coffee shops, fine restaurants from all corners of the world (which have been visited by Bill Clinton and others), vintage furniture shops and high-fashion boutiques. The elegant streets are lined with beautiful trees, amidst historical buildings and wonderful architecture. Prenzlauer Berg's landmark Watertower is just metres away.

On saturdays the weekly organic farmers market takes place at Kollwitzplatz (with a smaller version of the market also happening on thursdays). On sundays it's a 7-minute walk to Berlin's legendary Mauerpark Sunday flea market and Arkonaplatz flea market.

The apartment is a gorgeous walk from Museum Island, Hackescher Markt and Alexanderplatz. It is also well connected by U-Bahn (the nearest tube station is Eberswalder Strasse) and various tram lines, and conveniently close to world famous landmarks such as Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie and the Reichstag.

Pop star Madonna has recently opened a gym in the area, named Hard Candy. Yoga and Pilates is also being offered in the area.

The 1.5 bedroom-apartment itself is very quiet, as it's located in the back of the house, on the first floor with a small balcony.

The newly renovated flat has wooden floors throughout (except for tiles in the kitchen and bathroom), high-ceilings, central heating, a fully equipped separate kitchen and a separate bathroom. Door buzzer with Wireless Communication system.

Update May 2013:
Brand new modern kitchen installed - new photos to follow soon. There is a fridge/freezer and cooker, pots and pans, dishwasher, kettle, coffeemachine, toaster etc. as well as a washing machine. Iron and ironing board.

The living room and bedroom are connected yet separated by a wall and light curtains (both have windows). There is a large double bed as well as a comfortable pull-out sofa bed. Bedsheets and towels are included.

There is Wireless Internet as well as a TV.

Please note this is a non-smoking apartment.

I look forward to hosting you in the future!

Interaction with Guests

I work for various international arts, fashion and culture magazines and need to keep my finger on the pulse of Berlin's cultural scene, so I should be able to help you with suggestions of places, museums, galleries, parties to visit during your stay.

The Neighborhood

Prenzlauer Berg is by far my favourite area to live in Berlin, it's culturally vibrant and full of successful creative types, with internationally successful film directors, artists, musicians and magazine editors all breathing in its chic yet bohemian air. It is very central, yet greener than much of Berlin (and just a few minutes walk to Mitte), and is full of restaurants, coffee shops, bars, art cinemas, independent fashion, vintage, record shops, and English language bookstores. Mauerpark (and its epic Sunday fleamarket) where the Berlin wall formally ran is just at the end of the street. The area also feels very safe at all hours of night and day, partly thanks to its thriving restaurant, coffeehouse, and bar scene. Architecturally the area is also very beautiful, with a large number of it's old buildings surviving the war. Prenzlauer Berg avoids the concrete jungle vibe much of Berlin possesses.

Getting around

Transport wise, you could hardly be better located, with two tram lines, and two U-Bahn stations just a few minutes walk away. In only a few stops you can reach central Mitte, Museum Island/the River Spree, Alexanderplatz etc. These destinations are also a scenic walking distance from the apartment.

  • Had a really great stay at Heike´s apartment. Hassle-free communication, great location and really nice apartment. Would stay again.

  • I'm just back from Berlin and I really enjoyed my experience renting Heike's parents flat.
The flat itself is extremely nice, just like the pictures show. The place was very clean when I got in, which to me is an important point, as well as warm (I arrived on a winter night). The bathroom has a proper bath in it. The dining and living room areas are airy and the bed, which is a big double bed, is really comfortable. There is a big wardrobe to place clothes and stuff in it by the bed. The kitchen is compact and very well equipped. The whole flat was renovated recently so everything is brand new. The wooden floor makes it very cosy.
Heike was a real pleasant host to communicate with. She was also very helpful. She was kind about recommending places around the area of the upmarket Kollwitzplatz, where the flat is located and which I also highly recommend if you want to experience a quite but still lively neighbourhood in Berlin. There are great shops, restaurants and also a supermarket around it. The only down point about the flat is that the bedroom gets a bit dark during nigh time because it has no directed lights to the wardrobe. But this is such a small detail compared to the whole rest.
For all these things, I highly recommend the flat and also the host Heike.

  • We fell in love with Berlin and Heike’s apartment was part of the reason. It’s well located in Prenzlauer Berg, a very happening part of Berlin. Right outside the building are many shops and restaurants, plus public transportation is close. It’s an easy walk to catch the subway or a tram and get to Alexanderplatz or Museum Island.

The apartment itself in very nice and quiet as it’s in the back of the building. Heike is a great host and responded quickly to our questions and recommended places for us to visit.

We kept extending our time in Berlin and would gladly stay in Heike’s apartment again.

  • We can honestly recommend this appartment. The hostess was very helpful, and the appartment was clean and tidy. It is located in a very nice part of Prenslauer Berg, with restaurants and cafees nearby. We had our baby daughter along with us, and appreciated the quiet neighbourhood and all the parks and playgrounds in the area.

  • We had a lovely nine day stay in Heike's apartment. It is very spacious and well planned. The position was excellent as it is close to the station and surrounded by very good restaurants and cafes, many in the same road! The wonderful breakfasts set us up for the day! Thank you for the friendly welcome Heike, we will be back!

  • I stayed in Heike's apartment with my husband for 4 days and we really enjoyed this area of Berlin, location is great.

Heike accepted our reservation even though we did it only a day before arrival and the apartment was exactly as described/ shown in pictures.

I would certainly recommend this apartment and I would stay here again.

  • My husband & I (we are in our late 20s) stayed in Heike's apartment for 4 nights. We loved everything about it! It was large, clean, nicely decorated and full of helpful appliances eg washing machine, clothes line, hair dryer, kitchen utensils etc. It really felt like you we're in your own home. We also really loved the Prenzlauer Berg area. It ticked all our boxes- big leafy streets full of character, beautiful old buildings & plenty of coffee shops & restaurants to choose from. The apartment is also very close to a supermarket (Rewe) which we visited a few times. The apartment is really in an ideal location- sometimes we walked to sites, sometimes we caught the train & one day we hired bikes from Berlin on Bike (it is in the same building as Rewe) & cycled around the local neighbourhoods. Heike is a truly lovely person & was so prompt, friendly & helpful in all her communication. I cannot recommend her apartment enough!

  • Great little apartment in a very nice area of Berlin.

Heike was great, answered any of our questions pre-arrival very quickly. She met us at the apartment to hand over the keys, recommend some nice local places to eat and drink. She then left us to it.

The location of the apartment is great also. Just a short walk from the metro station with lots of cafe's and restaurants nearby and good links to take transport across the city.

Would definitely recommend her apartment (nice and warm in the cold snow!) and would definitely stay here once more if we visit Berlin again

  • The studio apartment was just a lovely base for my 10 day stay in Berlin. Arriving in snow and minus zero temperatures I was so happy that the apartment was warm and cozy. It is also very spacious perhaps due to the very high ceilings and is well-equipped with all the essentials for a comfortable stay - including a huge bath and problem free wireless Internet.
The location in Prenzerlauberg is great - close to transport and in fact easy walking distance to the city centre (30mins or less).
Heike is just lovely and very helpful. Arrangements were stress-free and all communication was super prompt.
Thanks Heike for a great stay!
