Alfonso is very friendly and helpful, and I immediately felt welcome at his house. The neighborhood is pleasant and is close to the old part of town. On Saturday he took me to Norcia, a beautiful medieval town in the Appenines where we visited the cript of St Benedict. They also make excellent cheese and wild boar salami here.
Alfonso was a delightful host, most helpful and accommodating. He had a meal ready for me when I arrived and his girlfriend had a dinner in the fridge for us! We were very comfortable and slept well as the location was quiet, although a little walk from the centre. I would thoroughly recommend!
Alfonso was super welcoming, he was in the middle of making DOP pizza when we arrived. Since we were there for work we couldn't stay to chat long, but he gave us the keys to his house and made us feel totally at home.
House is about 4 minutes from Spoleto by car. Convenient for us as finding parking all night after June 1 is expensive.
Thanks Alfonso - I'll be back!
Alfonso was the consummate host. He was very responsive online, very flexible meeting us when we arrived and even came out into the street to find us. He made us feel comfortable in his home and offered up his kitchen, pans and utensils for us to cook dinner for the family. When we wanted to go into the upper city of Spoleto in the evening, he jumped in his car and led us to the parking area and then walked with us until we got to the city center before leaving us to explore the Basilica and tiny streets of the old town on our own. When we returned, we invited him to join us for dinner and had a very enjoyable evening over a nice Umbrian Sangiovese and pasta, discussing travels and life. As we were a family of 4, he provided us with 2 rooms for a very reasonable rate and the kids were easily won over with the Wii video game console they got to play in Alfonsos 11 year olds room. The family room, kitchen and bedrooms were clean and well appointed with nice furniture and electronics…I will say that the bathroom could have been better kept, but it was not bad. We slept comfortably and as he was leaving the next day for work, he prepped the coffee for us and we dropped the keys in the mailbox as we left. We had a good experience with Alfonso and wish him well in life and future travels…may everyone be so friendly and helpful to travelers on the road as Alfonso was to us.
Alfonso was an incredibly gracious host--he offered to cook us dinner and lunch, showed us pictures of his family, and drove us into the center of town and showed us around on our first night. The language barrier was a little difficult but we got through it. The location of the flat was pretty convenient--it's a quick walk (1 km) to the train station and a pretty quick walk up to the center of Spoleto as well. Alfonso suggested we visit Assisi as well, and we were very glad we took him up on the offer. It was great to get to know Alfonso and stay in his great apartment!
