We have a private double room to let in our East London loft situated on a cobbled courtyard in Stoke Newington, only a few streets north of Dalston, and merely a 20min bus ride to Liverpool Street or Kings Cross.
Please note that at the moment we can't take bookings more than 30 days in advance, so if you are looking for accommodation within the next month, please carry on reading.
Stoke Newington is a great area with many bohemian cafés, bars, pubs and international restaurants all within a short walk. Take a 5min walk North and you hit Church street, a 'village like' street full of restaurants, deli's, independent shops, boutiques and a beautiful park (Clissold), as well as one of the ‘magnificent seven’ Victorian garden cemeteries of London (Abney Park).
We are within walking distance of the exceptionally hip area, Dalston, and its many clubs and bars, and a quick bus/train ride to Shoreditch, Hoxton and Brick Lane, famous for their street art scene and creative industries.
We have organic food shops nearby, 24hrs open corner shop, and the Saturday farmers market is 2 min. away.
5min. walk to either...
- 24hr bus that goes directly to Shoreditch/Brick lane, the City, Central London, Kings Cross and Victoria.
- Overground train (Rectory Road) which takes you to Liverpool Street Station in 15mins, from where you can connect to Central & West London.
15 min walk to...
- Dalston Kingsland overground train.
We also have a private car park lot available at the back of the building at no extra cost.
We take pride on our characterful home, which is within an old warehouse building and has high ceilings, large windows and exposed wood beams. We have two bedrooms and open plan living room/kitchen. Stuart works with many internationally renowned graffiti artists, and so our flat is its own mini gallery, with many original pieces hanging (and some painted directly) on the walls.
We have a fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine, and wifi internet; we can even offer you the use of a computer if you need.
The apartment is on the first floor and is reached by a wide staircase, however there is no lift.
Your room has a double bed, a roll top antique desk, storage and hanging space. It also features some fine examples of contemporary British street art, including pieces by artists whose work has made it into the hands of the US president.
Clean lining and towels are provided and the bathroom is just next to your room.
I am currently traveling, so you will be sharing the flat with Stuart and our two cats, who freely wonder around the flat.
Stuart is Scottish/Caribbean and I am Mexican/ Chilean, we both work in creative fields and love good food!
We are very sociable and relaxed, the area is full of artists and musicians, and so consequently, there's quite often someone popping by for a cup of tea so meeting new friends during your stay is almost guaranteed. But we also respect privacy and quiet times.
Our kitchen is always well stocked, with a vast array of exotic spices and sauces from our travels, and we are both avid cooks, so there's always something interesting at hand, any specifics can be bought within a short walking distance. As we mentioned before, we are also surrounded by a fantastic variety of restaurants, catering for everything from meat-lovers to vegans and everything in between.
Only there for the one night, but Stuart was the perfect host and the room was very comfortable!
I stayed with Stuart for one night with my 7 year old daughter. Stuart's place is cool and inspiring, I enjoyed being in those walls. My impressions of Stuart are that he is a wonderful human being, warm hearted, open, generous and good fun!
He gave us some great suggestions on what to do with our afternoon in london, feeding the squirrels in the park was a highlight!! As were the magic tricks Stuart's friend showed us when we got home (thanks Thomas!).
Would have loved to have spent longer, but the day we had was fantastic :)
We stayed with Stuart for 3 nights and absolutely loved Stoke Newington! It's a great place to hang out away from the chaos of central London, but also just a short bus ride away from the tourist sites too. We particularly loved wandering along Church Street in Stoke Newington and exploring nearby Dalston. Our favourite random local discoveries were Abney Park and Dalston Eastern Curve Garden. Stuart was really warm and friendly and had helpful tips and suggestions of things to do in London which was great, and it certainly felt more like we were staying with a friend. Although as fun as it was staying with Stuart, it wasn't the cleanest place to stay. So if you're after a clean kitchen, fresh towels and a lounge/dining area that looks like the images in the listing, this probably isn't the right place for you. The warehouse is a great space and it certainly did the job, but after 35 hours in transit we were slightly disappointed when we arrived, as the pictures don't really reflect the level of hygiene accurately. Definitely a fun place to hang out and Stuart was very welcoming, but could do with a good clean.
We stayed in Stuarts flat for four days.
Let´s just pick up some of the positive things, that the list will not end up on the next page.
Flat: like a museum, so many great things to discover + noble and comfortable room
Stuart: friendly, funny, gentle, kind, optimistic, nice, polite, helpful, communicative...
Negative = NOTHING
Next time when we travel to London we´re not willing to see the city, we come to meet a friend! Having a daily chat with Stuart made our days.

Simply Stated, Stuart Maclean, is one of the best hosts that i have every experienced! He had the best information about where to go and what to seel I had been concerned about not being near a tube station. Steward knew the bus service in and out and always got us to the correct location on time! We got to see London from the top which was much more fun!
I enjoyed his cats, they fell in love with my suitcase and napped on it all day.
I definitely would return. It was a great experience!
I was here with my daughter, she’s fifteen, it was our first time in London. Four days (of fun and roses). Didn’t see Big Ben, didn’t see the Thames and the Tate and so on. But we saw we saw spring in Stoke Newington, which is a cool and lovely place, and we saw many other parts of the town : it’s easy from here. We discovered very good spots : thank you Stuart. About this magnificent host : everything is written here. My last image is as the first one : a smiling man expecting for us, who opened the door of a fantastic house. Good vibes and smiles. In my hometown we say “bonne maison” It’s very simple but I can’t translate. It means so much. Stuart is someone.
We had a lovely stay in Stoke Newington, a really lovely place with great bus links to the centre, although it would be just as great a holiday if you never left the area! Plenty to do and lots of things to see. Stuart was a brilliant host, really went out of his way to make sure we were having a nice time. Even the cats are really friendly :D
Will definitely be booking to stay again, and would recommend it to anybody.
The absolute best part of Stuart's flat - is Stuart. He was kind, friendly, generous, really fun to hang out with and always made us feel at home.
We spent a great week in the apartment. We really liked the neighbourhood, it's peaceful and sweet, with lots of small shops and cafes nearby. the apartment, though not huge, was big enough and had everything we needed.
If you are looking for a warm and friendly stay in London - Stuart is your guy!
Looking forward to seeing you again chu!!!

many thanks again to stuart!
he is a really great guy! very friendly and helpfull from the first moment, like a good friend you know for longer than two seconds.. the flat is awesome, a lot of art, good music, nice bed & couches and everything you need to be comfortable, happy & to feel like home!
love it <3 big up!
We felt at home as soon as we arrived at the Warehouse. Stuart gave us a lovely welcome and it was as if we were arriving to stay with an old friend. It was the perfect spot to stay to explore all the joys of trendy Stoke Newington with our son who lives nearby. It is a very idiosyncractic space, perhaps not for those who like a minimalist interior but we loved it. The two beautiful cats were a plus and we were very honoured that they spent the night on the end of our bed. Stoke Newington has something for everyone, great, independent shops and you could eat at a different place every day of the year. A 40 minute bus ride takes you into the centre of town, plus there is the tube and the Overland. We will definitely go back to stay with Stuart.
