You get easy proximity to the one-of-a-kind cultural and recreational amenities of Santa Fe, Taos, Los Alamos, Chimayo and Espanola. You also get badland and river hikes right out the door, and amazing 360 degree mountain vistas right up the street. You can visit with our horse and cows, stroll down to the river through our fields and get a sense of how traditional irrigation works in northern New Mexican.
The large country kitchen is fully equipped with all appliances and utensils, and there are two indoor eating areas as well as three outdoor sitting areas. There are several distinct sitting areas inside and out, so you can enjoy privacy outside of your room. There is a flat screen tv with netflix streaming in the living room for those of you who are chilling at home.
We provide a private fridge in the kitchen for our guests, because ours is seasonally over-full with our garden produce (sharing encouraged). We frequently find ourselves enjoying meals with our guests, but their privacy is also respected.

Interaction with Guests
We respect our guests' privacy as we hope they do ours, but enjoy interacting if that seems welcome by all.
It's beautiful and historic with wonderful neighbors, hikes and easy access to Santa Fe and the varied environs of northern New Mexico. There is also a lot to do on our property itself, if you want to get involved in one of our many projects. There is a blacksmith shop and artist studio on the premises, as well as a bamboo fly rod building shop.
We are a generous and open family and we ask that you respect our property, belongings and time as we invite you to feel like family in our home. In other words, mutual respect of privacy, time and belongings is offered to you as our guests and appreciated from you in return. We are happy to offer you all our accumulated, evolving and up-to-date insider knowledge of this beautiful area. The only non-negotiable is smoking-none whatsoever on the property, please.
Please feel free to make us aware of any special needs and to join us at family dinners for a small additional fee with 24 hour advance request.
In the heart of pueblo country, Julie and Scott's home is peaceful, quiet, and interesting. I appreciated the private refrigerator, readily available hot water and being able to set the temperature in the bedroom. I stayed seven weeks and felt welcomed, safe, and trusted. If I return to the area I'll be sure to look them up. Recommendations are: Don't try to find the home in the dark and take your own pillows.
Thanks for the kind and thoughtful review, Gloria. We have an assortment of pillows available and would have happily offered a selection if I had known you didn't like the ones initially provided. But I hope you agree that's a small thing considering how well we fared together over the course of your time with us. We hope you come through again to see us. Keep on exploring!
Julie and Scott's home is one of the more magical places in New Mexico. Not only were the lodgings absolutely charming and well kept, but their land is extraordinary and left me with a feeling of wonder, spaciousness and joy.
They. are doing beautiful work for the community which is uplifting and inspiring. It was hard to leave there as it feels like a place that has become, in a very short time, a home in my heart. As an herbalist, it was just wonderful to see the health and Beauty of the many medicinal plants on the farm and in the garden.
As well, I felt truly cared for with the lovely little details they provided and their warm, open and gracious manners. I highly recommend their lodging. It is a very special place.
I have now stayed in Julie and Scott's house as well as in their slightly more private casita. I can't recommend one over the other. They were both perfect for me. I love these people, their home, and Northern New Mexico - a winning combination!
Great stay with Julie, Scott and Shaefer! Julie is a wonderful host, she's warm, welcoming and gave us really good ideas to explore Espanola area. Their house is roomy, quiet and not far from town. We especially enjoyed sitting in the back yard doing nothing ,feeding horse in the ranch and walking their dog to the valley.Highly recommended!
Julie, Scott and the entire Bennett family were extremely accomadating. Myself and my 2 dogs stayed with them for 6 weeks while studying in Espanola, NM. I was able to comfortably study and spend time on their beautiful property. I would highly recommend Julie and Scott for any type of travel, especially travel with pets. They have a large yard, spacious dog kennels (for day use, if wanted), and live near a large walking trail. In addition, the family enjoys getting to know their guests. They helped me get to know the community, suggested activities and provided a caring home to return to at the end of the day. Their home is beautiful, sustainable and comfortable. My dogs and I will be back to stay with them sometime in the future!
We reserved our room with Julie and Scott with minimal notice. They were very communicative with the reservations and super helpful about things to do in the area. We had a shared bathroom, but with our trip timing everything worked out with the various schedules. If you are an active person, La Puebla is very nice. It is about 30 minutes from Santa Fe and there is minimal/no cell service (AT&T). They live on a working farm close to a river and BLM lands where you can hike and ride bikes. We went to Ojo Caliente (hot springs) which is about 30 minutes away - we highly recommend that side trip.
I came to New Mexico to start a new job after living outside the country for a long time, and Julie and Scott were the best possible way to get myself acquainted with a new way of life. The authentic adobe home is warm and inviting, with lots of spaces for hanging out. As long time residents with a strong connection to the land and it's history, they are able to provide thoughtful suggestions for any kind of activity in the area. In addition, the adjoining BLM land provides ample open space for exercise and quiet contemplation. I highly recommend these folks to anyone looking for an authentic valley experience you won't get in any conventional downtown accommodation.

We are an easy-going family of three. Scott is a salesman in the automotive industry and I am a museum and interior designer currently working as a sales representative at Santa Fe by Design, a plumbing and hardware showroom. Our younger son is a student at the Santa Fe Waldorf High School, and an aspiring large animal veterinarian. We share our house with Bella and Bodhi, feline and canine, and they love our guests without being over-bearing.
We spend a lot of time taking care of our land and also enjoy hiking, skiing, the arts, good friendships and all the cultural activities in this area. We are happy to help get you acquainted with all that northern New Mexico has to offer, even some activities which are not readily accessible to most tourists. Yoga studios, no problem, foodie interests, we have you covered, the arts in all its local iterations, hiking and biking destinations...even fly fishing pursuits can be supported during your stay. And we are happy to give you a tour of our riverfront property and either explain or demonstrate irrigation practices that date from the Spanish settlement and introduce you to our horse and cows. This is an authentic northern New Mexico home and community...a friendly glimpse into all our area has to offer. Feel welcome!
