The Space

We offer you our downstairs private room with double bed and shared (downstairs) baths in our large and lovely solar adobe home between Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico, also known as the Land of Enchantment for good reason. The house is set on 21 acres in the Santa Cruz River valley north of Santa Fe and east of Espanola, with easy access to the towns of Santa Fe, Taos and Los Alamos and the mountains, rivers, cultural amenities of the area like out-of-the way (if you stay in Santa Fe) treats like Ojo Caliente Mineral Hot Springs and the Rio Grande Gorge Park. Pricing shown is for one person, with a maximum occupancy of two. There is an additional fee of $15 for the second person.
You get easy proximity to the one-of-a-kind cultural and recreational amenities of Santa Fe, Taos, Los Alamos, Chimayo and Espanola. You also get badland and river hikes right out the door, and amazing 360 degree mountain vistas right up the street. You can visit with our horse and cows, stroll down to the river through our fields and get a sense of how traditional irrigation works in northern New Mexican.
The large country kitchen is fully equipped with all appliances and utensils, and there are two indoor eating areas as well as three outdoor sitting areas. There are several distinct sitting areas inside and out, so you can enjoy privacy outside of your room. There is a flat screen tv with netflix streaming in the living room for those of you who are chilling at home.
We provide a private fridge in the kitchen for our guests, because ours is seasonally over-full with our garden produce (sharing encouraged). We frequently find ourselves enjoying meals with our guests, but their privacy is also respected.
We are long time (30+ years) residents of the area and are happy to give you tips for enjoying your stay. An additional bedroom, the whole house and/ or our casita (on the same property) may be available, so check in with us or see our other listings.
Please ask us about special food, pets, travel or financial arrangements or any other requests and we will be glad to work with you. As noted, a varied and healthy self- serve continental breakfast is included in shorter term options. Public transportation is spotty so plan on having a car to fully enjoy the area. Staying with us will give you personal insight into how nortenos (northern New Mexicans) live and we will give you as detailed a glimpse as you desire into how this special corner of the world functions and what there is to do and see here. We hope you will join us.

Guest Access

Full kitchen, shared use of two bathrooms, one with a tub, free parking, three patios (one with barbecue and fire pit, living room with netflix and pandora, den with funky piano and game table, dog kennel on premises, field and badlands hiking, river access.

Interaction with Guests

We respect our guests' privacy as we hope they do ours, but enjoy interacting if that seems welcome by all.

The Neighborhood

It's beautiful and historic with wonderful neighbors, hikes and easy access to Santa Fe and the varied environs of northern New Mexico. There is also a lot to do on our property itself, if you want to get involved in one of our many projects. There is a blacksmith shop and artist studio on the premises, as well as a bamboo fly rod building shop.

  • I have now stayed in Julie and Scott's house as well as in their slightly more private casita. I can't recommend one over the other. They were both perfect for me. I love these people, their home, and Northern New Mexico - a winning combination!

  • Great stay with Julie, Scott and Shaefer! Julie is a wonderful host, she's warm, welcoming and gave us really good ideas to explore Espanola area. Their house is roomy, quiet and not far from town. We especially enjoyed sitting in the back yard doing nothing ,feeding horse in the ranch and walking their dog to the valley.Highly recommended!

  • Julie, Scott and the entire Bennett family were extremely accomadating. Myself and my 2 dogs stayed with them for 6 weeks while studying in Espanola, NM. I was able to comfortably study and spend time on their beautiful property. I would highly recommend Julie and Scott for any type of travel, especially travel with pets. They have a large yard, spacious dog kennels (for day use, if wanted), and live near a large walking trail. In addition, the family enjoys getting to know their guests. They helped me get to know the community, suggested activities and provided a caring home to return to at the end of the day. Their home is beautiful, sustainable and comfortable. My dogs and I will be back to stay with them sometime in the future!

Jenny, You were an awesome, enthusiastic and amazing guest. We are happy we were able to serve all your needs, as well as those of Lobo and Phoebe, but you made it easy and wonderful! You know we would love to have you back anytime!

  • We reserved our room with Julie and Scott with minimal notice. They were very communicative with the reservations and super helpful about things to do in the area. We had a shared bathroom, but with our trip timing everything worked out with the various schedules. If you are an active person, La Puebla is very nice. It is about 30 minutes from Santa Fe and there is minimal/no cell service (AT&T). They live on a working farm close to a river and BLM lands where you can hike and ride bikes. We went to Ojo Caliente (hot springs) which is about 30 minutes away - we highly recommend that side trip.

  • I came to New Mexico to start a new job after living outside the country for a long time, and Julie and Scott were the best possible way to get myself acquainted with a new way of life. The authentic adobe home is warm and inviting, with lots of spaces for hanging out. As long time residents with a strong connection to the land and it's history, they are able to provide thoughtful suggestions for any kind of activity in the area. In addition, the adjoining BLM land provides ample open space for exercise and quiet contemplation. I highly recommend these folks to anyone looking for an authentic valley experience you won't get in any conventional downtown accommodation.

  • The Bennett's provided an incredibly welcoming home. They are astute and passionate people and have a gorgeous setting they reside in. Their adobe is quite charming indeed. Very helpful and generous at giving their time to answer questions and give suggestions. Much appreciated!

  • This is such a good location for the area where one can visit both Taos and Santa Fe and everything in between. country living at it's best. These are very cool people and I highly recommend them. Oh, and their son, Shafer - about the coolest kid I've ever met.

  • Great People in a great location!

I would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting the Santa Fe/Taos area (and they have good coffee)

  • Our stay at the Bennett House was great. This was our first girl's vacation for my daughter and I, so I didn't want to book boring hotels along the way. Being able to stay with Julie, Scott, Schaefer and Bella (the cat) was wonderful.

The house is very warm and inviting. Our room upstairs was comfortable and cozy. The Bennett's are a lovely family to stay with, and make you feel at home. We ran around the area so much, we didn't spend much time visiting, but when we did, it was really nice.

We didn't stick to the original plans for Santa Fe. Instead, we decided to visit the parks and monuments in the area. Thanks to Julie's knowledge of the area, we found the Tsankawi Prehistoric Site that is part of the Bandelier Monument. My daughter and I had the best time exploring this area, and we even learned we have a new found love for hiking!

I would definitely recommend staying here. In fact, we will try to book this place again for any future visits to the area.

We are an easy-going family of three. Scott is a salesman in the automotive industry and I am a museum and interior designer currently working as a sales representative at Santa Fe by Design, a plumbing and hardware showroom. Our younger son is a student at the Santa Fe Waldorf High School, and an aspiring large animal veterinarian. We share our house with Bella and Bodhi, feline and canine, and they love our guests without being over-bearing. We spend a lot of time taking care of our land and also enjoy hiking, skiing, the arts, good friendships and all the cultural activities in this area. We are happy to help get you acquainted with all that northern New Mexico has to offer, even some activities which are not readily accessible to most tourists. Yoga studios, no problem, foodie interests, we have you covered, the arts in all its local iterations, hiking and biking destinations...even fly fishing pursuits can be supported during your stay. And we are happy to give you a tour of our riverfront property and either explain or demonstrate irrigation practices that date from the Spanish settlement and introduce you to our horse and cows. This is an authentic northern New Mexico home and community...a friendly glimpse into all our area has to offer. Feel welcome!
