Delhi locally pronounced Dilli or Dehli , officially National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT) , is the largest metropolis by area and the second-largest metropolis by population in India. It is the eighth largest metropolis in the world by population with (phone number hidden) inhabitants in the Territory at the 2011 Census . There are nearly 22.2 million residents in the greater National Capital Region urban area ( which also includes the cities Noida , Greater Noida , Ghaziabad , Gurgaon and Faridabad along with other smaller nearby towns). The name Delhi is often also used to include urban areas near the NCT, as well as to refer to New Delhi, the capital of India, which lies within the metropolis .
The neighborhood is definitely not for fainthearted! You are right in the middle of Old Delhi with all the good but also bad sites (very busy, laud and dirty).
On the fli[ side, you are 5 -10 min riksha ride from many famous sites and great street food and restaurants (there is safe street food in Delhi - I ate it and lived to tell the tale!).
The flat itself is adequate to the price. Very simple but everything is in working order. Some issues with water presure initially but got fixed very quickly
Atul as a host is very responsive and always happy to help
We had no problems with Atul. He was a very good owner and helped us with all our requests.
This was our first time using airbnb in India. As advised by Atul we purchased prepaid taxi from airport & had the driver call Atul when leaving. The apartment which is located on a busy Main Street in old delhi was fairly noisy due to traffic. Atul welcomed us and provided us with a snack. We did have to request a lock for the main door and this took several days to arrive. We also had to request some dishes and cutlery. We liked the space though freshening prior to our arrival would have been appreciated.
My sister and I stayed with Atul for two nights. As other guests have said, the location was very close to both the Red Fort, Jama Masjid and the metro.
Atul was welcoming and took us to find some dinner on the night we arrived, which was appreciated. After that we really did not have very much contact with him, apart from us letting him know our movements to and from his place.
There seemed to be some miscommunications at times and although the place was clean and convenient I felt that it was a little overpriced for what it was.
We had a great experience at Atul's place. From the outside, like everything in old Delhi, it looked deceiving. The apartment was comfortable, clean and spacious.
It's centrally located and pretty easy to reach most of Delhi from. Also we were very close to some of delhis best eating joints such as Karims in Jamaica Masjid and Moti Mahal which was a great bonus.
The kitchen worked well, apart from a few missing utensils. The gas and water were no problem. I had a tough time figuring out how the hot water worked but other than that the bathroom was clean and always had water.
Message from my sister:
Atul was a good host to us. He is cool, pleasant and informative! We were received with snacks and a friendly attitude from both Atul and his kind mother. The apartment is nice, comfortable and well located! It allowed us to get to know New Delhi just right. We had a great experience!
Our stay at Atul's apartment was a great one. The room is very spacious, cool and with a very large comfortable bed (very much needed after exploring Delhi). The apartment is situated between old Delhi and New Delhi and is walking distance from the red fort and chandni chowk (a street with lots of different market stalls). Everywhere else is a rickshaw ride away. Atul was a great host. We arrived at 3am and he was awake to welcome us. In the morning he gave us a list of things to do and places to go and helped us book our train tickets to other parts of India. The only flaw was that the taxi he booked us from and to the airport and train station respectively, never showed up and we had to make out own way.
Atul was a great host - attentive, available, and SO MUCH FUN! As others have mentioned, Atul's apartment is located near Chandni Chowk and the Red Fort, surrounded by music stores (cool stuff!). I felt comfortable enough to walk to both from Atul's, but there are plenty of rickshaws in the area if you'd prefer a lift.
Atul was an excellent, warm individual - he was kind enough to play some phone tag with me as I taxi'd to his home, and the food is as he said - amazing! The accommodations were clean and warm, very safe.
I did not end up staying in the studio pictured here - i was alone, so I stayed in the private room listed in a separate posting on AirBNB.
