I had a very poor and hugely disappointing stay in this accommodation. Yes Atul seems like a nice guy but the state of the room was very disappointing. Firstly, the accomodation is not easy to find as it is in an old street, they need better directions. When I arrived, I had checked the bed sheets and they seemed to have not been changed in weeks with stains on them. I asked Atul to change and he said he would the next day but I feel this should ave been done before arrived. Next problem, the toilet was backed up with the last guests waste which would not flush down, also no toilet roll. I slept in the bed that night but was alarmed to a bed bug. I wanted to take a shower the next morning but found that the shower doesn't work and there was no towels. At this point I knocked on his door as he lives upstairs but no reply, I left the apartment for the day for sightseeing and returned to find there was no electricity. Again, I knocked on the door but no reply, so I messages him through Air bnb and he came straight away. He told me that it was the cleaners day off but I have my reservations as I do not believe this apartment has been cleaned properly in weeks! To be fair Atul did try his best to fix the situation but there are too many issues that need addressing in the apartment. He tried to fix the shower but next morning I couldn't take a shower so had leave for a 9 hour car journey without one. In short, yes it's cheap but you will find too many headaches and I would not advise to stay there.
The story is all wrong rather I would say unfair to me. I have one thing to say read my other 39 reviews and my guests will see the real picture. I understand the there was inconvenience faced by you like no towel and pressure of the water was low. Everything was fixed in seconds the moment you messages me. I gave you the whole apartment and even at 5 am we were there to check if everything was alright as you had to check out at 6 am. I even guided your driver the way at my house at 5 in the morning so that he could pick you up on time. Sorry,David but this was not expected from you.
Atul's place is in a very authentic neighborhood in Delhi and is centrally located to enjoy most of the must see sites in Delhi.Atul was a great host and always available to answer questions or give suggestions for great food or places to go see. I would gladly stay there again. Kevin
My girlfriend and I were preparing for our first foray into India when we stumbled upon Atul's place. I have to say that our decision to stay with Atul was the absolute BEST decision we could have made. Atul is an awesome host, and his home was very inviting and a great place to kick back and relax and unwind after a day in Delhi. India is a very intimidating place to visit, and Delhi is a very very busy and complicated city, and if it weren't for staying at Atul's place, I don't think my girlfriend and I would have enjoyed our trip nearly as much as we did.
We stayed for 10 days, and while we were there Atul had some time off work and invited us along on a couple trips he was planning to Pushkar and Amritsar. We saw things we wouldn't have seen if it weren't for Atul. Also, my girlfriend got unlucky and was really sick for the first half of our trip, and Atul was an amazing and caring host, helping her get medicine and even bringing her tea occasionally.
We were ecstatic to find that all of the great reviews here of Atul's place were more than accurate. I'd like to say that while our trip to India was great, one of the best parts of it was making a new friend in Atul. My girlfriend and I highly recommend staying with him! He goes above and beyond.
On a side note, there are a lot of great (like seriously, great) food options near Atul's, and there's an awesome little market right downstairs to get water and other basic items. If it's your first time in India, it will take a little bit to get used to all of the activity, but Atul's place is very well located and Atul is great with recommendations. If you couldn't tell already from this review, we love Atul. Stay here.
Atul was a polite and attentive host and the room was exactly as described. The room is quite private, almost like a hotel room. Since his family has lived in Old Delhi for generations he knows all the best restaurants and the fun things to do. He also arranged an Agra trip for us that went smoothly and without a hitch.
On the day we were leaving it started POURING and we heard a knock at the door - it was his mother with steaming hot tea and biscuits!
I would highly recommend Atul to anyone who wants to experience Old Delhi first hand.
Atul has been my first host while arriving in New Delhi, actually just after landing for the first time in India. He and is mother are very sympathetic and have been very helpful to me. Atul guided me over the phone and did welcome me as I arrived at 4 a.m. Not everybody would do that! Further more, since I'll be staying for some time in India I needed to get a phone number, Atul helped me in this process that is not so easy in India...
Few words on the place, it is very central and has all the equipment you would need. So I can only recommend you to give it a try :)
Atul is a great host and downright individual. If you come to Delhi in the dead of summer (as I did in August), after full days of running around visiting the sites and sounds of Delhi, you will SO very much look forward to coming "home" to A/C and cable TV. I had the pleasure of having the larger of the two suites to myself, and Atul's place in the Daryaganj neighbourhood will easily become a home away from home for you in Delhi. I couldn't have asked for a cooler gentleman like Atul nor a chiller, laid-back place to have called home for my first of six weeks in India. Travellers shouldn't expect swanky, 5-star Western hotel amenities but a warm, clean respite from the chaotic pleasures that is the capital city of India will not be missed! In some ways, it's even better than a hotel what with its huge bathroom, kitchen and deluxe-sized bedroom. Remember, Delhi is a rapidly-changing metropolis in a most vibrant and developing country in the 21st century: come with an open heart & mind, snag a suite at Atul's and make yourself at home. Thank you, Atul + family, for making Delhi such a memorable place for me. I'll certainly be back!
Sencillamente perfecto!!!! Highly recommmend !!!!!!!!! Odette y Pablo
Atul went above and beyond. Driver met me at airport, Atul arranged take-away to my room that night. Arranged day trip to Agra. Was very pleasant when I returned twice on day drip to Agra, first forgot my IPad and 2nd time forgot my money. Was downstairs both times to get me on my way.
Showed me how to get to Red Fort, how to get tuk-tuk to India gate, even spoke to tuk-tuk driver when driver didn't know address. Showed me where to go and get a shave for Rs85, Rs30 for fresh squeezed pomergranite and orange juice. Had a fulfilling dinner of daal, chickpeas and rice for Rs10. I highly recommend Atul and I would return!
I was returning to India to go to a wedding and decided to stay with Atul and could not have made a better choice! He was so friendly and helpful. We had a ton of fun hanging out together and he showed us to a couple of really great places to eat. He helped us with our train tickets and made our whole trip more enjoyable and less stressful. Thank you Atul!!
Atul...is...the...best. I went to Delhi for business and stayed in New Delhi in a really nice hotel with the rest of the people from work, which was fine. I decided to extend my stay so I could see more of the "real" Delhi, and booked a couple of nights at Atul's apartment. While I enjoyed staying at the hotel in New Delhi, my trip didn't truly start until I arrived at Atul's BnB.
He immediately made sure I was comfortable and settled, and I could tell right away that he would be a brilliant partner in crime for the coming days. We hit the town and had drinks, ate some great food, explored the city, and talked the day away about our travels.
The following day I had planned to take the trip to Agra to see the Taj Mahal. Atul went out of his way to take the day off from work so he could join me on the journey. Alcohol, food, adventure - it was all included. It was one of the more entertaining road trips I have ever taken. I even got to see monkeys. I love monkeys.
I recommend staying with Atul for anyone who wants to experience the real deal in Delhi. He's a local, his apartment is in a great area, he's helpful and informative, and in the end, Atul is a damn cool guy. Stay here and give back to the local community. Thanks again mate! See you real soon I hope - next time in Los Angeles!
