The Space

This home is soo interesting that CSI Miami filmed here for three days, Dexter was here for two days, and various student films have used the place for location filming. You will be using the bathroom used by famous actors :-)

Walk through the front door and turn right, you are in the avaliable bedroom. The bed is queen size and the mattress comfortable. The full bathroom ( shower, BIG ole'tub) is adjacent.
The home is one of the earlier Craftsman Style homes built in Long Beach and still has most of its original features. The kitchen is beautiful and you can use it, as long as you clean up after yourself. I've been told that this house "hugs you" when you come in.

You will awaken to the aroma of coffee, and chose to have breakfast in the dining room, or on the backdeck - or even the front porch, before heading off to your day of sightseeing. When you return you will find chilled wine and snacks, and most likely me to listen to your adventure tales.

Please be aware, this is a very old home,(built in 1908) I live with the windows and doors open all year around, so do not expect a super duper operating room sanitized environment,( if this is the most important thing to you, do not book with me) this is my home, that I love to share, not a hotel. My home is clean and cozy. It looks exactly like the photos, nothing hidden or changed.

Great restaurants and local favorites are close by. Many visitors enjoy the nearby Aquarium of the Pacific, walking along the boardwalk, walking on the beach, visiting the Japanese Gardens at CSULB, touring the Queen Mary. There are festivals and events all the time in Long Beach, I've probably volunteered for most of them.
I have two bikes that are available for guests to help you explore Long Beach and our bike trials that actually go along the beach :-) The bikes are kinda old so don't expect to enter any races with them.

You will be close to bus, train, and the LGB airport. You can walk to Downtown and the Beach. From LAX you can take a shuttle for about $30 to my home. A taxi ride from the LGB airport to my home is less than $20. You can park your car in my driveway. You can get to Hollywood, Universal Studios, downtown Los Angeles by public transport, and it is very affordable.

The room and home are spacious and welcoming. I love to spend time with guests letting them know about out great restaurants, and interesting things to see and do. I have menus from nearby restaurants, and sometimes discount tickets to local attractions.

The room can comfortably sleep two people, only.
I do have two couches that I can provide for an additional fee. No children or pets.

Sometimes my backyard is used for Charity fundraising events, you will invited to participate at no charge, often there is live music, and lots of food. If something like this is scheduled, I will contact you and give you fair warning !!

Guest Access

Guests have access to the entire ground floor, including the kitchen, front parlor, dining room, library, front porch, back deck, back yard !

Interaction with Guests

I interact with my guests according to their desires, if they want to be left alone, I leave them alone. If my guests want tours, local restaurant information, grocery store information, help with their accent reduction while speaking English, all that is available, even involvement in Long Beach activities.

The Neighborhood

I love that my neighborhood is fairly quiet, multi-cultural, safe to walk around or bike. My neighborhood is full of interesting architecture, it is the oldest Historic Neighborhood in the city of Long Beach. My multi-cultural neighborhood is very close to downtown and public transportation.

Getting around

Yes, bus is a short walk, and one may connect with train easily.

Other Things to Note

Amenities: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, hairdryer. I even have extra toothbrushes if you have forgotten yours. The bathtub is extra big and perfect for a bubble bath, or just use the shower for a quicker clean.

  • Dianne has a welcoming smile and an incredibly inviting home. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at her residence and I would highly recommend her home to all my friends and family coming in from out of town. I look forward to having another occasion to visit Dianne and her lovely home.

  • Dianne is our kind of people. Outgoing, hospitable, friendly, laughs alot and made us feel so welcome. She opened her house to us, it is a old Craftsman just like our home. She has ceiling fans and keeps the house cool. She had left a note for us on the door, with a key and instructions to enjoy the house, roam around, eat snacks, and drinks were in the refrigerator. Could not have felt more welcome.
It was a warm day and evening, laterwe sat outside by her little pond and visited, we had our daughter in law along for the day until we took them to the airport. Dianne made them feel very welcome, our grand daughter played the piano, Dianne gave her some books for her music recital and encouraged her to play and play. Then she gave hr permission to walk in the pond. Dianne provided some snacks and drinks and it was a wonderful afternoon. Her back porch area is very, very comfortable, lots of trees, the photos are just like the what you experience. We loved it.
One of the best things-Dianne has two cruiser bikes, not far from a wonderful bike path that runs next to the LA river and into the Long Beach Marina, scads of restaurants there, beautiful area!
Would return to Dianne's house for sure!

  • Dianne's house was very eclectic. A bit dark and cluttered but charming nonetheless. She was away on vacation but had arranged for a neighbor to meet us. She had left great supplies for breakfast, as well as wine and beer for us. The neighborhood was a little scary at first, but very quiet, and the back yard was enchanting.

  • love our long beach grandma and her lovely house.^_^ and she's so right that she is the best. The room is so well decorated and comfortable that me and my husband had a very good sleep. The backyard is my favorite. It got different view from sunrise to sunset. We love Dianne. Having breakfast and chatting with her was such a great experience to us.

It was a delight to host Fei Fei and her husband. They are part of a new generation of creative striving entrepreneurs that will help transform their country.
I do hope to see them again, and learn of their successes. They are welcome back to their Long Beach Grandmas home anytime.

  • We had a wonderful experience with Dianne. She was friendly and accommodating and made us feel right at home - in her home! Dianne equipped us with the essentials that we needed and toured us around Long Beach so we had a good grasp on how to get around town and pointed out where all the hot spots were. Our overall experience was very pleasant and we wouldn't hesitate to go back.

About
I am told that I am a very interesting person. I have been fortunate to have traveled all around our world, and am delighted to report that the world is not flat. Those that visit my home always want to move in, it is comfy and lovely. The backyard is rustic and great for outdoor dining, always chilled wine in the fridge, just waiting to be enjoyed outside, or by the fireplace. I love to read, there are plenty of books to (website hidden) my home. I enjoy cooking and food prepared by others :-) All of the years of my adult life have involved "volunteering" - I have wide ranging interests, historic preservation, National Disaster Red Cross, international education, the arts still and lively, wine events, and whatever is of interest to me at the present time. A favorite quotation:" Do not forget little kindnesses and do not remember small faults"
