Check In
  • This is a great location for an active and relaxing holiday! Trinidad is close to several beautiful parks (check out Patrick's Point State Park) so that you can hike and wander around all day long, and then come home to relax in Curtis' hot tub with amazing ocean views. The place is clean and well equipped -a bit small, but practical and comfy. Curtis' was quick at responding and very friendly when we met him on our last day.

  • Sitting in a hot tub, looking out over the ocean as the sun sets behind the trees a bit to the northwest, listening to the barking of the sea lions far out on the rocks, well, that about says it all. The house itself is beautifully painted, furnished and complemented with art both charming and sometimes funny. Check out the tomatoes as you're coming downstairs! The kitchen is well supplied with essential cooking gear and there is a good gas grill on the patio. If you choose, you can eat all your meals at 'home', or do as we did, have some breakfast, pack a lunch, explore Trinidad and beyond (very close to the Redwood forests and magnificent ocean views).
Curtis, our host, was very accommodating and is a great source of information about the local area. He also respected our privacy and did not hover, taking care to work on the garden at times we were not enjoying it. He has managed the property in a most interesting fashion, and it has many colorful and quirky nooks and crannies. One of the most impressive is the path he has created to the rocky shore below the house. He even put a couple of chairs on the beach!
All in all, if you can spend a little bit more than a nice hotel room and you don't mind being off the beaten path, the Abalone Cove house is a gem!

  • I think this is by far the best bang for your buck in the area...we loved the proximity to both Trinidad and the Redwoods, and the apartment had everything we needed for the weekend. We especially enjoyed the hot tub, with amazing stars and the sound of sea lions and waves crashing on the beach. We also really appreciated the binoculars provided for guests, and were able to see grey whales pass by the window as we lay in bed in the loft!!! The restaurant recommendations were also spot on - Laruppin was wonderful...would highly recommend to anyone wishing to stay and explore the area.

  • Curtis' place was the most perfect experience we could have had. He is a friendly, laid back guy who knows the area very well and was more than happy to give us all the info we needed to enjoy our stay. On our first morning there I woke up early and took a solo hike down to the beach on his private trail, and while it would be challenging for anyone who wasn't in decent shape, it was well worth it to be on a quiet beach by myself with no one in sight. My girlfriend and I loved his beautiful cozy cottage with all of it's quirky and interesting decorations and amenities. You can tell that Curtis really put a lot of thought into each detail from the art to any creature comfort you can think of. I highly recommend his place to any couples looking for a romantic getaway in a prime location to see some of the most awe inspiring nature on the west coast. Thanks Curtis! Hope to see you again next year :)

  • The home has a lot of character. I have read other reviews that noted there isn't much room to put your own stuff. This is true, but not a big deal. We really loved the view while sitting in the hot tub and it was nice being able to use the grill for dinner every night. Curtis is a great host and gave us a lot of great tips for hiking and events in the area. His home is within minutes from the Trinidad downtown and also Patrick's Point State Park. Good times!

  • This little hideaway on the coast is more beautiful than any picture could capture. Curtis's attention to detail made this a trip we'll cherish for a long time. From the landscaping to the great artwork to the well-equipped kitchen, not to mention that hot tub overlooking the Pacific - everything about this place makes me want to go back soon.

  • We had a wonderful stay in Trinidad! We arrived late so did not actually meet Curtis until the 2nd day, but all necessary information had been provided to us about our arrival beforehand, so we were fine. Everything we needed to know about the area and the rental was also provided inside which was very helpful. The space is wonderful and cozy, the kitchen has everything you could need appliance and gadget-wise, and the hottub with the view is amazing! We hope to return!

  • Aaaah, it was absolutely lovely to return to this seaside haven of cozy and calm. Again, just the respite I needed from 'real life' (sadly only 3 nights this time)... it's now becoming a necessary habit that I don't want to break. Can't wait to return again when I'm back in California in August. Thanks to the healing energies of the land, the sea and Curtis.

  • Curtis has put much time and love into making this a great getaway. We had everything we needed and more. We especially loved the private trail to the beach, the grill and the hot tub! Coming here felt like a true vacation- not every place does. Thank you, Curtis!

  • Curtis's place is perfect in every way! The view was even more incredible than the pictures make it seem, and it's truly one-of-a-kind to be able to have a hot tub while watching the sun setting right out over the ocean. The grounds are impeccable and there are so many interesting things to see--definitely an artist's touch all around the grounds. The inside is as good as the outside--the gas fireplace heats the place up quickly and lends a nice ambience. The bed is really comfortable and gives you a view of the ocean too--falling asleep to the sound of the waves is amazing. The kitchen has every appliance/utensil a chef could ever need, and the gas grill was a nice touch as well. There are tons of things to do in the area and Curtis had some great suggestions.
