Walking distance to the Ferry (6-15 minutes, depending on how fast of a walker you are), take a 20-minute relaxing ferry ride (free) or Express Bus (X13, 14, & 16) into lower Manhattan. The ferry runs every 20 minutes, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; after midnight it runs every hour. Located one block from local and limited bus service and close to above-ground train station. If you prefer to drive, the apartment is located approximately 1.5 miles from the Verrazano Bridge into Bay Ridge, Brooklyn OR approximately 7.5 miles from the Goethals, Outerbridge and Bayonne Bridge into New Jersey.
Located in a Landmark area on a tree-lined, QUIET block in a Quaint/Historic neighborhood one block from the water with restaurants, convenient stores, cozy cafe, fruit/vegetable market within 2 blocks from the apartment. A beautiful park (Clove Lakes Park) with a restaurant on the lake, paddleboats, bicycle path, track, baseball diamond, ice-skating rink, etc. and Silver Lake Golf Course are within close proximity. The St. George Theatre and Farmer's Marker are within walking distance as well. No alternate-side of the street parking :) 3rd floor views of the Statue of Liberty. Charming with all original oak wood trim and updated modern kitchen & baths make this home one of the most sought after homes. Filmed in movies and featured in NY Magazine.
*Please note, the price is PER ROOM as there are 3 separate rooms with each their own bathrooms in the house. Please see my other listings for the different rooms available and there is AN OPTION TO RENT ALL OF THEM TO HAVE THE ENTIRE HOME TO YOURSELF. The price for the WHOLE HOME is $350 a night when I am not living there. Otherwise, there may be others sharing the kitchen and living areas at times similar to a Bed & Breakfast. Still there is quite a bit of room to not feel anyone elses presence :) Laundry can be done for you on premises for a small fee, but is not for our guest's use, sorry.
The easiest way to the house is by car service, which you can secure immediately as you depart the airport terminal.
Please contact Alissa with any questions and interest!
Also, note, any guests who do not check out promptly by 11a will be charged a $20 late fee for every hour they are late. Unfortunately, we need to implement this now as many people are not honoring the check-out times and our time that we need to get the room and house ready for the next guests. We ask that everyone please be mindful of the check out times so we can be considerate of the next guests. We would be happy to hold luggage for you if your flight takes off later on in the day, but we absolutely need to have the room vacant by 11a. Thanks!
It's a nice experience with Alissa, we stayed 2 days. We were given in advance detailed instructions about checking in and routings to go nearby, even by free bus with subway ticket. And Alissa was done as per our earlier check-in advise. It's really funny to take the Staten Island ferry. The place is old, but it was very clean, big and comfortable. Nearby we googled a spanish food resturant, it tasted nice and a little expensive. We checked out in the morning. See you next time!
Alissa was friendly, available, and flexible since we were first-timers and needed to quickly change locations. The neighborhood was lovely and tree-lined with dramatic views of Manhattan from the street. 10 minutes easy walk to St. George and the Staten Island Ferry terminal, and served by local buses. The house was a warm, sturdy Victorian. There was even a radiator with an off-valve in the bright, sparkling, functional bathroom. The king canopy bed in the Jackson Pollock inspired bedroom was firm cozy. The porch was private and kept us dry while waiting for transfer in the rain. If you can handle the 20 steps up to the front door, you will be pleased with the Keurig coffee, comfort, and ambiance of the woodwork-lined public kitchen, living room and dining room on the first floor. We seldom see and experience venues such as this built before materials became scarce. A home in New York City. Wow!
The bed was large and comfortable
The Ferry was lovely (you don't need to stay in Staten Island to take the free Ferry!)
I live in Chicago (in the city) with out a car so my husband and I walk and use public transportation all the time. It is NOT a 6 - 15 min walk to the ferry, I thought no big deal. Even at a 20 min walk I would be fine - however try at least a 20 min walk up a steep hill once you return. (most of the 20 min walk is uphill)
Tall, steep, narrow stairs at the front of this cute old home (I think this should be noted for if someone physically can't get themselves or luggage up these stairs?)
As the previous review mentioned the ferry is 25 min / not 20 min. The total time to get to and from Manhattan is at least a good 45 min from house to the edge of Manhattan. If you actually want to go some place other than seeing the Statue of Liberty or to the edge of Manhattan add at least a good 15 - 20 min, making your commute any place to be 1 hour - 1.5 hrs. Plan to get a workout even if you are someone that walks / works out.
Due to the amount of travel with this location we ended up taking way too many taxi's. Including the last night we took one from the Ferry to the house it was about $8 - 10. You can find the taxi stand at the Ferry upstairs (they are not your traditional taxi / they are private cars (old school not like you might find via using an Uber app)
Due to the location on the morning we left we could not get a taxi and had to get a black car to the airport costing us $165. I had used the same black car service from Brooklyn to LGA it was only $35.
The little pharmacy is the place we found to purchase shampoo. However don't expect to find much with food options for breakfast, dinner or delivery.
Due to the location we missed out on much of the wonderful food that NYC has to offer.
The owners do not live at or near this home. When I asked prior to my trip about a hair dryer and then did not find one... (well that might not be an issue for some - I have thick, long hair).
A week and half prior I stayed at a wonderful airbnb in Brooklyn, it took us 10 - 15 min via bus or subway to get to all the places we needed to go. It was only a small fraction per night more expensive.
I will never stay in Staten Island again, nor would I recommend it.
We didn't see Alissa but she explained clearly the rules of the house via e-mail before we get there. The room was large and clean. It was nice to have our own bathroom. The house is old and poorly insulated so there is a lot of noise when people walk, but we were fortunate to have silent "roommates". Everything was great. Nevertheless, we walk very fast and the time to walk from the house to the ferry is not only 6 minutes! Moreover, the crossing is 25 minutes and not 20 minutes.
Very beautiful place # 14 St marks place . and good excellence service giving by Alissa thank you for everything we ll back soon again
The reservation was canceled 2 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
