The Space

This apartment is located on the first floor of a colonial house (1902), and has been completely renovated in a style that conserves the original structure. The colonial decoration, with impeccable and artistic taste, mixes antiques and old furniture with modern comfort. The apartment has 2 bedrooms. In the main bedroom, there is a double bed. The second bedroom is located in a mezzanine and has 2 single beds. There is a wide living room with sofa bed and large table for 6. The table separates the living room from a equipped kitchen. The bathroom is complete with bathtub and bidet.
San Telmo is one of the oldest neighborhood of Buenos Aires, preserving old buildings and street layouts famous for their charm. It is an area of cafés, antique shops, cobblestone alleys, filled on weekends with artists and dancers, and many tourists.
The apartment is very close to several public transportation and within a walking distance to many to many touristic attractions like Casa Rosada, Avenida de Mayo, Puerto Madero or the nearby parks!
It is really very safe: a walk alone during the nights returning from Milongas where I dance tango.

Getting around

Bus:
The urban bus is commonly known as 'Colectivos' or sometimes 'Bondis' in slang. The service is very frequent -you will rarely have to wait more than five minutes during the day. The bus system is a service with 'stops' (a place where passengers are waiting to take a bus) spread on the streets with a distance 400 meters among each one of them. Before you even think of boarding a bus, you will need to make sure you have coins ('Monedas') for your journey. Banknotes are not accepted. Introducing coins into the machine, you get a ticket to travel. There is a prepaid card named SUBE, that works with every city bus or metro. If you are visiting Buenos Aires for a week or more, you should definitely purchase a Guia T. For sale at most news stands and often on the subway, the Guia T is a little pocket-sized book providing detailed maps of city streets and outlines how to get around by bus.

By Subway:
The 'Subte' (as it's called in BUENOS AIRES) or Metro, is the faster and more frequent (every 5 minutes), though it can be very crowded during morning and evening peak hours. The service runs from 5am to 10pm (8am to 10pm on Sundays). The ticket is electro-magnetic and it's dispensed in the same station. Large parts of the city are not served by the network, including some important tourist areas such as Recoleta and Palermo Viejo.

By Taxi:
Taxis in Buenos Aires are reasonable priced and plentiful (except in rainy rush hours). Taxis are easy to identify because they are painted yellow and black (roof), and they are circulating in thousands through BUENOS AIRES. To take a taxi can be done from anywhere in the city, making signs to the driver or the Radio Taxi ( To request a taxi by phone ), it's the safer service to travel on taxi . Currently are circulating over 40,000 taxis by BUENOS AIRES

  • Sara was very sweet and helpful. We enjoyed our stay in San Telmo. Gracias!

  • Mercedes was a fantastic host. We made an 11th hour booking for one of her apartments in the morning and it was ready within hours that same day. The late notice wasn't a problem and the apartment was in great condition. The Casa San Telmo team were very welcoming upon arrival and the briefing was very thorough.

The area is fantastic; there's a pub directly across the road, a laundromat around the corner, just 2 blocks away is Defensa markets, plenty of restaurants and cafés close by and it's a nice stroll to the subte (metro).

Mercedes invited us out to experience some tango dancing at a local millogna. It was a great night out and I recommend you do the same if you have a chance.

The other great thing about this apartment is that there is a mobile phone they can loan you. This came in very handy.

  • Great and helpful host, apartment was as cosy as on pictures. However, the bathroom is uncomfortable and so are the beds.

  • The building has so much character, truly old world and beautiful. The apartment in the pictures was not the one we stayed in, however Mercedes took us in at very short notice and the small apartment we had the first two nights was quirky and charming. The larger apartment is gorgeous, unlike any hotel you could ever stay at. The internet worked well and the neighborhood put us within walking distance to restaurants and bars. I was very sick the morning we were leaving. Our plane wasn't leaving until late in the evening. Mercedes was dear and let me sleep in one of the rooms not being used. She was a life saver!

  • I DO NOT recommend the place for people who have respiratory diseases because it is full of dust in some furnitures. BUT the flat is big, the price is fair, the facilities are good, the interior design is cool, the host and her team are helpful and pleasant (you will need a telephone to contact them on weekends). The location is close to touristic points, to several bus stops, and it is safe. I recommend to take ear plugs to sleep at night if you are sensitive with noises, because the traffic jam can disturb you. Be aware: there are just stairs to reach the appartment.

  • Very nice place in a very nice neighbourhood!

  • We really liked our stay in Mercedes' apartment. It is spacious and equipped with all we needed: A double bed (in a separate room), 2 single beds (on a gallery above the big kitchen/living room area), a bathroom and 2 balconies, one facing the street. The colorful decoration of the place creates a nice atmosphere. The surrounding area is charming, the San Telmo street fair (on Sundays) is close and you can get to other parts in the city easily using public transportation.

  • It was a quirky and charming space that matched the character of the neighborhood perfectly. The location was ideal for exploring San Telmo and La Boca, and the street noise at night did not bother us. It was also nice to have Mercedes and the Casa San Telmo team downstairs in their office for help getting around in BA. Overall we loved it and would stay there again. One thing, if you plan to try to do any cooking the kitchen is functional but limited.

  • We loved staying here, such a great place to spent some time hidden away in the streets of San Telmo which is a lovely old, authentic part of Buenos Aires to explore. Make sure you check out the huge antiques market on a Sunday and take a tango lesson in one of the numerous ballrooms and dance halls in the area.
