About this listing
Private room in my Columbia Heights row house. 4 blocks from the Metro Green/Yellow line which is a direct route to downtown, museums, monuments, and shopping. The house is full of vintage finds, and I live with my girlfriend and two amazing dogs.
Awesome 100 year old townhouse in the middle of Columbia Heights filled with vintage modern home furnishings. The private room has a full size bed, 32" LCD HD flat-screen tv with cable and Smart Blu-ray player with Netflix, Youtube, HBOGo, and access to my large DVD collection. There is a desk with computer, wireless internet access, Stereo with Ipod hookup, and a mini fridge with refreshments and snacks and also a mid century chair for relaxing and reading. I have two very cool dogs, Ollie is a very lazy 8 year old male Am. bulldog/ Dane mix, and Eddie a 2 year old sweet female deaf Am. Bulldog, both are very friendly and eager to make new friends. I'm located only a few blocks from multiple metro stops, and shopping and nightlife in Columbia Heights. For additional nightlife options there are tons restaurants and bar choices in nearby Adams Morgan, Mt. Pleasant, and U St. In the summer I build custom bicycles in my workshop so I have bicycles to rent if you need a way to get around. There's also a private backyard with a fire-pit and koi pond for relaxing outside.
Guests will have access to a shared bathroom, kitchen and the rest of the house. Feel free to cook a meal in my well stocked kitchen, or watch a movie or game in the living room, or just relax in your room.
Interaction with Guests
I or my girlfriend will be here to check you in and show you around. Once you've checked in you're free to come and go as you please. I often cook and if you're around you'll likely be invited to join us for a meal or hang out with our friends watching a movie or hockey game. If you like more privacy you can hang out in your room where there is a desk for getting some work done, and a tv with cable, and a smart blu-ray player with lots more entertainment options.
Columbia Heights is a fantastic place to live and visit. Convenient to everything going on in DC, the Columbia Heights Metro stop is your easy link to downtown monuments and museums. You can walk to restaurants and bars just up 11th st. or enjoy the fountain and community vibe in the Columbia Heights center near the Tivoli Theater. U St. is a short walk to even more nightlife, restaurants, weekend flea markets, and even more shops. You'll really be in the middle of it all!
The metro Green/Yellow line is just a few blocks away, and is a short 5 stop trip down to the monuments and museums without having to change trains. About 30 minutes door to door. It couldn't be easier!
In addition I rent bikes on Spinlister. Just use your favorite search engine to find "profile/15341 on Spinlister"
Communication is the key, let me know what type of schedule you are going to be keeping and I'll be as accommodating as I can. I live here with my two dogs and cookie baker girlfriend. I work weekends and she works almost every day (owning your own business is so rewarding! ) but both of our schedules are very flexible. Once you're checked in you're free to come and go as you please, and use any of the common areas of the house including the kitchen and laundry. The older dog Ollie has the run of the house, but the younger one is crated when no one is home to keep him from getting into trouble. Both of the dogs are friendly and love any attention you give so dog friendly people are ideal for stays at our house. If you have any questions please ask, We love this place and think you will too...
Joel was a great host! He was super accommodating to us and we felt really welcome in his home. His two dogs are adorable and the house is like a treasure chest of cool stuff! Joel was really generous and had beers when we arrived and coffee for us in the morning, as well as a lot of good advice about where to go in the area. Would be happy to stay here again.
Joel is very friendly and helpful. He welcomed me and gave me a brief introduction of the house and the city. He is always there to help, and makes his guests feel at home. The room is as nice as shown in the picture. The location is perfect, close to metro, shopping center, and restaurants. Just ~$9 to union station. The two dogs at home are also very friendly, but they are big dogs so if you are afraid of dogs you shall be aware of that.
It is a pleasant stay in Joel's house, and I will definitely recommend him to my friends!
My first ever AirBnB experience, and it was nothing short of perfect. Joel is one of the nicest guys I've ever met, and I couldn't have had a better time staying with him, his girlfriend Shannon, and Ollie and Eddy (his dogs). Joel and I hit it off very quickly, and after spending two weeks in his house, I can now call Joel a friend. Spending time in Joel's home with him was arguably the highlight of my stay in DC. What a lovely guy and a lovely time we had. Don't miss out on having the same wonderful experience that I had.
Awesome! I love Columbia Heights. Close to all the action, within walking distance of cafes, restaurants, a great park, and other cool DC neighborhoods. Joel is a great host, very hospitable and happy to share his space and time with you. Really enjoyed it!
It was a very comfortable stay in an interesting house. The bed was perfect and super comfy which is very important for me when I travel. It feels like you're staying in your own home. Joel was a great host. It's close to the metro and there are plenty of bus lines. I felt safe walking in the neighborhood and it's a great location for enjoying the city. I will gladly stay here again in the future.
Get communication, great hospitality, comfortable bed, and conveniently located near Columbia heights. Joel is great and I definitely look forward to visiting again!
I stayed with Joel for a week and had a great time. He's a really good host, making sure you have everything you could possibly need in your room. The house is full of cool stuff, great music, cookies and beer. Perfect. I loved hanging out with Joel, Shannon, and the dawgs after work. They're great people and very friendly. I will definitely try to stay here again when I'm next in DC!
