Awesome 100 year old townhouse in the middle of Columbia Heights filled with vintage modern home furnishings. The private room has a full size bed, 32" LCD HD flat-screen tv with cable, a desk with computer, wireless internet access, Stereo with Ipod hookup, and a mini fridge with refreshments and snacks. I have two very cool dogs, Ollie is a very lazy 3 year old Am. bulldog/ Dane mix, and Sonar a goofy deaf Am. Bulldog mix, both are very friendly and eager to make new friends. I'm located only a few blocks from multiple metro stops, and shopping and nightlife in Columbia Heights. For additional nightlife options there are tons restaurants and bar choices in nearby Adams Morgan, Mt. Pleasant, and U St. In the summer I build custom bicycles in my workshop so I have bicycles to rent if you need a way to get around. There's also a private backyard with a fire-pit and koi pond for relaxing outside.

As I stayed in two different rooms in the house I am very lucky and have two opportunituies to talk about the fabulous time I had with Joel and Shannon. I lived at Joel's house for four weeks, actually my first four weeks in Washington and in the US and it was brilliant. I fell deeply in love with the dogs and Joel and Shannon are gregarious hosts who became friends. Joel even assembled my furniture at my new place! He also seems to know everyone and Bob's uncle in DC so I met many fun and lovely people through him, which is especially great when you've just moved to a new town.
Joel is a great host and the room is amazing. The bed is nice and comfy. You will feel right at home. Many nice extra touches to the room like the mini fridge, a fan and an AC, plenty of closet space etc. and a good tv and stereo. Columbia Heights is a perfect place to stay and explore the city. I could highly recommend staying at joels!
Wonderful stay in DC thanks to these very nice and welcoming guests.
Besides, the place is very conveniently located to enjoy DC as much as possible.
second time here and great again, don't have plans for a 3rd since i'm moving to the area to definitely will recommend to *my* guests :)
had to be in town for work and the experience at Cool townhouse in Columbia Heights2 was perfect...loved the hosts, the canine residents, the room fridge and snacks, the bed was comfy and commute easy. wouldn't hesitate if the need arose again (rebooked for next week :) )...
My stay at Joel's met all my expectations and more. He is a wonderful host and offers a great environment. I would return gladly.
This is a really great place to stay. Joel and Shannon were extremely friendly and welcoming and went out of their way to make my stay enjoyable - so much nicer than staying in a hotel! The room is well set up, with every detail covered, even down to being able to play music off your iPhone on the in-room speakers. Perfect.
I just had the nicest experience at Joel's place. He and Shannon were very friendly with me during all the time I've been. I ended up staying longer than I had initially planned, and Joel was very kind to allow me extend my stay at his house. Due to that, I had to change rooms and I can tell that both this one and the smaller one are as nice as you would tell by the pics (and the beds are very very confortable). The small fridge and the snacks are a nice touch. The house is very cosy and well located, close to the metro and at walking distance (10-15 min) to one of the bar/club areas in DC, the U Street. You can also use the kitchen and the laundry if you want, which is very usefull if you are staying more than a couple of days. Considering I stayed there for almost two weeks, I had the chance to hang out with Joel and Shannon at the living room some evenings, and I always felt very welcome to join them. If you like dogs, Ollie will make your day. Summing up, Joel and Shannon are great hosts and will do their best to make you feel confortable. I highly recommend staying there - and if I ever come back to DC, I have no doubt I would stay there again.
Joel is an old friend and a great host. Plus, his location just can't be beat with access to Metro and a short walk to the best night spots in town. The room was comfortable with great furniture and style. Our stay was awesome in DC.
We stayed two nights at Joel's place.
The private bedroom was true to the pictures on his profile, colorful, bright, TV, computer, Wifi etc.
Joel made us feel like at home, let us grab somme food if needed, provided snacks and refreshments in a small fridge in the room.
We met with another person in the room next to ours, and there were a good mood in the house.
I'd say that it's a good place to go and stay, and Joel is available for his guests, gave us tips concerning good restaurants, where to go or not etc.
