About This Listing
Cozy, conveniently located cottage in SF's Glen Park Neighborhood
Enjoy our top floor 1 BR condo which is accessed directly from a lovely, private garden.
The cottage was originally built in 1908 as a 'servants' quarters' annex to the large Victorian home next door, though it is now a separate property. Two rooms were added in the 1930s and the inside of the home was tastefully remodeled over the past 20 years with love, care and attention to detail. The downstairs area is only occupied during the day (owner's office), so guests typically have complete privacy from early evening through the morning.
The unit includes a bright living/dining area with hardwood floors throughout, a newly remodeled gourmet kitchen with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, and a bathroom with a separate shower and a claw foot tub. The comfortable Queen size bed in the bedroom plus a high-quality Queen sleeper sofa in the living room can accommodate up to 4 people.
We offer a computer with Wifi internet access, a flatscreen TV with cable and Tivo, Wii, and a DVD player.
The garden/patio area includes a built-in BBQ pit, while a separate artist studio next to the patio houses Stephen's concert grand Steinway piano (may be made available when Stephen is around and working in the office downstairs).
The cottage is located on a quiet residential street with easy parking, yet within a few minutes walk you will find the quaint Glen Park shops - e.g. a classy 1950s vintage furniture store, a quirky independent bookstore offering live jazz performances, a high-end independently-run grocery store, beauty salons, a gym and more. Highly rated local restaurants include a French bistro (le P'tit Laurent) , a restaurant serving delicious American fare (Chenery Park), Italian (Manzoni), gourmet pizza (Gialina), Cal-Mex food (la Corneta) and old-style American breakfast fare (Tiger's). From there you can hop on a Muni bus or BART (rapid train), which gets you downtown to the Union Square and main shopping area within 8 minutes, or even to the East Bay (Berkeley and beyond) in half an hour. By car, a 2 minute drive will get you to the 280/101 freeways, which offers easy access to downtown SF (10 minutes) and Silicon Valley.
A 4 minute walk down the street from the cottage leads to Glen Canyon, a beautiful 70 acre hikers' oasis and SF's best kept nature secret, which also offers a children's playground and tennis courts.

The washer/dryer downstairs are available when Stephen or his office assistant are working downstairs - just knock and they will be happy to help you. We also provide information at check-in about a good laundrette within easy walking distance, should Stephen be away when you need help.
Also, when Stephen is working downstairs in his office, please let him know If you would like to practice time on our Steinway Concert grand piano.
Please sort compost/trash/recycling in the corresponding kitchen bins to the extent you can. If full, we will have instructions in the unit as to where the larger trash cans are.
Stephen and Sigrid
I had enjoyable stay with my family at Stephen's house which certainly felt like a cozy cottage. Very convenient for transit into downtown via the BART which was only a 5-10 minute walk away (albeit down/up a steep hill although there is a bus that takes you most of the way). In a quiet neighborhood but a short drive to the airport (20 mins), Golden Gate park (10-15 mins) and Marin County/Sausalito (35 mins)
The house was clean, homely and well appointed with everything we needed. The sofa bed in the living room was ok for two adults but we ended up putting the mattress on the floor which we found more comfortable and then slept really well! Stephen greeted us when we arrived and ensured we had everything we needed but otherwise it felt like our own house for the weekend.
Overall, we would definitely stay again and would recommend Stephen's house to others.
My wife, my daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The flat was clean, spacious, comfortable and well appointed. Location is excellent, in a quiet spot in Glen Park, but only 5 minutes to the BART station for quick access to downtown SF.
Our hosts were most helpful in getting us situated, and making sure that we had everything we needed.
Accueil charmant. Stephen nous a fait visiter le quartier, très riche en commerçants et (website hidden) maison et le jardin sont très agréables conformes à la description. La situation est idéale pour visiter la ville et la région grâce à la proximité du métro et de la voie 280.
The place was very cozy and in a great location, and Stephen was great in ensuring our arrival and stay went as smoothly as possible. The place is in a quiet neighbourhood while still being close to downtown and a 5 min walk to the BART. Definitely recommended.
Are you looking for a house close to BART and SF sights, but in a residential area? This is the place for you. The little yellow house is a short walk (uphill) from the Glen Park BART station. It is in a recessed area away from the street. The kitchen is large and well stocked with all items you need, the bedroom is good for a couple and the living room/dining area is cozy equipped with a good media center. The sofa opens to a double bed and there is a little alcove housing a computer. As with most houses in the SF area, you need to be able to walk up steps to access the living area. As my granddaughter said, it is a cottage in the forest.
Sigrid was an extremely accommodating and helpful host. She made sure our stay was very comfortable and went out of her way to help us with a couple of requests we had. The cottage was very comfortable and had so many extras I don't know where to start. I truly felt at home with my family of 4 in a completely new city for us.
The cottage was very quiet yet only 4 Bart stations from Union Square. There was ample street parking but we often chose to use the public transport because it was so convenient. We loved the neighbourhood, we loved the cottage and how well equipped it was, I only wish I could have stayed in San Francisco for longer. This is a quality place to stay, I would definitely stay here again. Thank you Sigrid.
About the Host, Stephen
We are family of four - Stephen, Sigrid and our two children aged 10 and 12. We currently live 10 minutes away in the Haight Ashbury neighborhood, but this was our first home and we love it very much! Stephen is a classical musician and has continued to use the downstairs apartment as his office/computer/composing space during the day while he also spends time in the artist studio/music room (separate building) across the garden to practice on his Steinway grand piano.
Stephen is California-grown, while Sigrid is Belgian/Swedish and moved to the US in her twenties for graduate studies at Stanford - and never left! Between us we speak English, French, Spanish, Swedish and Dutch (plus some German and Russian), so for those contacting us from abroad, we look forward to welcoming you!
