Cozy, conveniently located cottage in SF's Glen Park Neighborhood

Enjoy our top floor 1 BR condo which is accessed directly from a lovely, private garden.

The cottage was originally built in 1908 as a 'servants' quarters' annex to the large Victorian home next door, though it is now a separate property. Two rooms were added in the 1930s and the inside of the home was tastefully remodeled over the past 20 years with love, care and attention to detail. The downstairs area is only occupied during the day (owner's office), so guests typically have complete privacy from early evening through the morning.

The unit includes a bright living/dining area with hardwood floors throughout, a newly remodeled gourmet kitchen with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, and a bathroom with a separate shower and a claw foot tub. The comfortable Queen size bed in the bedroom plus a high-quality Queen sleeper sofa in the living room can accommodate up to 4 people.

We offer a computer with Wifi internet access, a flatscreen TV with cable and Tivo, Wii, and a DVD player.

The garden/patio area includes a built-in BBQ pit, while a separate artist studio next to the patio houses Stephen's concert grand Steinway piano (may be made available when Stephen is around and working in the office downstairs).

The cottage is located on a quiet residential street with easy parking, yet within a few minutes walk you will find the quaint Glen Park shops - e.g. a classy 1950s vintage furniture store, a quirky independent bookstore offering live jazz performances, a high-end independently-run grocery store, beauty salons, a gym and more. Highly rated local restaurants include a French bistro (le P'tit Laurent) , a restaurant serving delicious American fare (Chenery Park), Italian (Manzoni), gourmet pizza (Gialina), Cal-Mex food (la Corneta) and old-style American breakfast fare (Tiger's). From there you can hop on a Muni bus or BART (rapid train), which gets you downtown to the Union Square and main shopping area within 8 minutes, or even to the East Bay (Berkeley and beyond) in half an hour. By car, a 2 minute drive will get you to the 280/101 freeways, which offers easy access to downtown SF (10 minutes) and Silicon Valley.
A 4 minute walk down the street from the cottage leads to Glen Canyon, a beautiful 70 acre hikers' oasis and SF's best kept nature secret, which also offers a children's playground and tennis courts.

  • The cottage was wonderful! Stephen & Sigrid are very nice and went out of their way to accommodate us. Thank you so much for the perfect vacation! We'll definitely consider staying here again.

  • This was our second stay at the cottage and everything was perfect

  • We loved staying in this cottage! It's perfectly located, clean, quiet, bright and sunny. Stephen was also an excellent host. Cannot recommend it enough!

  • Our stay on Sussex Street could not have been better. The apartment is clean, comfortable, and peaceful. Something not to overlook when considering this property is the level of privacy it offers. Since it is a stand-alone building, you share no walls with neighbors, which was a blessing for us as we were traveling with small (noisy) kids. The yard was a huge bonus as well, beautifully kept. We were also glad to have such ready access to parking. We got a spot in front of the house every one of the seven days we stayed, and it was an easy walk to the BART stop when we weren't driving. Sigrid and Stephen were warm and easily available--even when we locked ourselves out of the bathroom. This is a terrific property and we will definitely book again next time we're back in San Francisco.

  • We had a lovely time at the cottage. It's a nicely renovated home with a lot of character. Stephen and Sigrid provided everything we needed and were excellent hosts. It was a perfect fit for a one-week stay with my husband and two year old. The location is great--an easy walk to Glen Park Bart and its surrounding little shops and restaurants. We would definitely stay there again.

  • I love visiting San Francisco but really love staying in Glen Park. Stephen & Sigrid have a great place and are wonderful hosts!

  • I adored this cottage from the minute I walked through the sweet, private front yard and into this charming abode. Bright and quiet with a full kitchen, comfortable reading spots and a fabulous bed. It's in a charming neighborhood with cute coffee shops, a local grocer, and nice selection of restaurants. I commuted daily on the BART to a conference downtown at Moscone and was so grateful to have a place that felt like home to return to at the end of each busy day. The hike up the hill seems tough at first but if you're reasonably fit and enjoy walking, as I do, you'll find it just the right amount of exercise. I'd gladly stay here the next time I'm in San Francisco.

  • We wanted to have a more personal experience while in SF, and this cottage delivered exactly what we expected! Lovely place, great decor, extremely cozy, full kitchen with a huge fridge + lots of space to share. This one bedroom cottage is perfect for a small family (we are a family of 3). The bathroom has lots of light, meaning you can put on your make up in the morning without missing any spots. As mentioned in previous reviews, the BART makes everything sooo convenient! Make sure you visit the small grocery market down the street which carries lots of special cheeses from different countries, gourmet items and fresh bread baked daily.
Thanks for all your hospitality, Stephen!!

  • Stephen & Sigrid's house is lovely and has everything you would ever need (including toys for my daughter to play with, and a very comfortable bed!). It's also extremely private: even though Stephen's office is downstairs, we never really heard him there. The neighborhood is perfect -- lots of great restaurants, coffee shops, fitness studios... Glen Park is a charming area! And, it's close to the BART station, which makes getting around the city really easy. One note: the area is hilly, so travelers who aren't so athletically inclined may want to make sure they have a car (there's plenty of street parking). That wasn't an issue for us though, and we'd love to stay here again!

We are family of four - Stephen, Sigrid and our two children aged 10 and 12. We currently live 10 minutes away in the Haight Ashbury neighborhood, but this was our first home and we love it very much! Stephen is a classical musician and has continued to use the downstairs apartment as his office/computer/composing space during the day while he also spends time in the artist studio/music room (separate building) across the garden to practice on his Steinway grand piano. Stephen is California-grown, while Sigrid is Belgian/Swedish and moved to the US in her twenties for graduate studies at Stanford - and never left! Between us we speak English, French, Spanish, Swedish and Dutch (plus some German and Russian), so for those contacting us from abroad, we look forward to welcoming you!
