Interaction with Guests
I'll be around the house from time to time to take care of various things and take the trash to the street. I live just 5 minutes away and can respond to calls and texts right away.
I love my neighborhood! The street is a main road through the neighborhood, but the busiest times are morning and evening work traffic, but it never gets to bad and the windows mostly face the back yard so it's pretty quiet inside. Mabel Davis park is a 10 minute walk away and features a playground, Austin's first public skatepark, a pool (open in summer only), and a .5 mile nature trail - great for your morning run. There are several local restaurants- 888, Hai Ki, Super Burrito and Vic's BarBQue are some of my favorites.
A bit farther away is the brand new hike and bike trail along Lady Bird Lake.
There are 2 bus stops about half a mile away. One goes downtown and the other goes across town.
Sheila's place is very welcoming, clean and comfortable, just right. The location is convenient, with easy access to public transportation into town and quick distance to the airport. The bed is very comfortable. It was great to hear the rooster next door! If you are looking for a friendly spot not smack dab in the city centre but close enough to enjoy its fun, Sheila's place is the spot. Also, a ten minute walk away is a lovely cafe, Cafe Creme, with delicious crepes. Overall, a very good experience at a very reasonable price.
Due to last minute changes with a wedding party we didn't end up staying here after all. Kudos to Sheila and being very responsive as we made plans and had to change last minute.
We enjoined our stay in Austin. We stayed for two weeks and had a quiet roommate. The place can use some upgrading. There was no carpeting in the hallway and the patio was not what the pictures promised. A bit dissapointing because that was just the reason why we choosed this place. The bed was comfortable but noisy. We did not meet Sheila and had only contact bij phone. Although the neighbourhood was quiet, there were several dogs barking long time during early morning and evening. Access to downtown and highway was easy.
I was really torn writing this review. I love the duplex. It's a really great set up. It's in the South East which is convenient to Downtown, SoCo or the Eastside. 1st problem is our gas was shut off due to non payment for 2 days. That's 2 days during very cold weather we had cold showers. The 2nd problem was the co2 alarm went off again and again. The host said to remove the batteries. After a few days of complaining and sleeping in the cold with the windows open the host had it fixed. Come to find out it wasn't the batteries but there was a small co2 and gas leak. The host tried to tell me the service men found nothing but I was there when they read the co2 levels and replaced a pipe on the furnace that had been red tagged to be fixed.
So yes, the property was a great find in a cool spot but the host was not the best.
Sheila was fantastic. We had a bit of a mix-up about the reservation, but she was perfectly accommodating and we resolved the issue amicably. The apartment itself is really nice. The room is very clean and bright (just like in the pictures) and the bed is quite comfortable. I highly recommend it!

About the Host, Sheila
Hi, I'm Sheila - I've been a long-time landlord (since 1998, actually) and I converted my duplex over to Airbnb in 2012. I've loved every minute of it! I have met some of the most interesting people - people just traveling through, people moving to Austin, people visiting as tourists, race fans, music fans, roller derby fans and players and wedding guests, you name it. I love providing visitors to Austin with a comfortable place to stay and some insider's information about traffic, getting around the city, avoiding tourist traps, and can't-miss Austin sites, sounds and eats.
I run a non-profit afterschool program for my other job. And my other other job is mom to 2 lovely children, 16 and 11 years old. Welcome to Austin!!
