HEART OF SAN JOSE CITY - BUT QUIET
This is literally in the very center of San Jose, walk no more than 8 blocks to best museums, galleries, nightlife and groceries. You will NOT hear the usual neighbors, cars or construction noises of an urban area. You will hear students and yoga classes at a reasonable level - never before 8 a.m or after 10p.
$12 overnight parking is available in a guarded lot, daytime street parking available.
This is a 25 - 45 minute drive to airport depending on traffic, buses within 10 blocks also run nearby to airport and many locations in Costa Rica.
I have a tour business and can have our driver pick you up or take you to the airport for $30. This is $5 less than the regular rate.
I operate a city walking tour business so this is definitely the best place to stay to get great activity referrals. If you are interested in a city tour visit - toursanjosecostarica to see options and book in advance.

My friends and I stayed at Stacey's only one night before leaving Costa Rica. I loved the neighborhood! It was close to everything we wanted to check out with the short amount of time we had. The place itself was cosy, but primarily a yoga studio! I liked the ambiance it gave. Stacey answered quickly through airbnb whenever I had questions. It's a great place for a short stay!
The location was great - a very walkable and safe neighborhood I was traveling solo and never felt uncomfortable walking by myself. The room itself was fine, everything I needed. The bathroom could've used a good cleaning though. It's also very shared. I found out once I was there that in addition to the normal yoga classes, there was also yoga teacher training going on all day. So the bathroom was pretty heavily shared. the bathroom has two doors - once to the airbnb room and the other to the rest of the building. The yoga students kept leaving the door to my room locked, which was a little inconvenient especially when you're all ready to hop in the shower.
My friend Mary and I stayed at Stacey's on two separate evenings in the same week - just for starters. In both occasions Stacey made us feel super welcome, by getting us from the airport and giving us super tips about things to do in San Jose! She even took us to a pretty awesome concert and made sure we had all we needed for our stay.
Really wonderful host 11/10 would recommend again!
Great experience! Loved the yoga studio! Bathroom and kitchen were super cute! Close to downtown and bars! Highly recommend!
Unfortunately there is a serious problem with security at this property. I regret having to report this as I like the host and had stayed at her previous property before without incident. This time I was here less than 24 hrs before my Ipad was stolen. This was not because I was in any way careless, but because the property was not secured properly. I was pretty tolerant of the fact that there was no running water in the kitchen or adjacent bathroom, both toilets were not working and used, and no fan or internet. But because none of the 3 electrical outlets in my room were working I was forced to use an outlet in the adjacent kitchen. As I was supposed to be the only occupant, this should not have posed a threat. However, someone either forgot to close or planned to leave open the front door as when I woke up in the morning my Ipad and charger were gone and the incoming yoga teacher reported to me the front door was wide open. Whether I was targeted as an AirBnB guest or negligence was just high is a moot point. In retrospect I was exposed to potential bodily harm and may have gotten off easy with just a major theft. Either way I was put in a terrible position that still leaves me vulnerable to further damage given the information on the device. There is a great deal of obligation on the part of the AirBnB guest to accommodate the yoga classes and students, but it seems it is not a two way street. Although the host did take me to the police station to file a report, no compensation has been offered to replace the tablet and there is yet to be any resolution. Given the now higher price point, I would in the future undoubtedly stay at one of several other hotels or properties that are in this price range with more security and breakfast to boot. My advice would be to make sure everything is working at the property and be aware that there is a lot of traffic going in and out. Although one would think there was a more elevated vibe, take my hard learned experience and do not let your guard down.
Jeanine's experience was eye opening to the potential risks on the property, and we took it very seriously. Within 2 weeks we installed a complete security system that is linked directly to the police (they can arrive within a minute because located 4 blocks away, and they inspected the property and we installed every item they requested for maximum protection), and I now have 24 hour access to see the cameras on mobile to make sure yoga staff have locked up correctly. We have updated our guidebook with simple security instructions. We are ordering lockers for storing valuables. We also discovered Airbnb Insurance does not cover damage/theft for travelers (when reviewing before we thought it did but didn't review closely enough and therefore didn't have insurance to cover reimbursing this item), so we recommend traveler's insurance for your CR trips. I'm personally very sorry this happened but we learned a lot and think the steps we've taken should eliminate future thefts or incidents on the property.

About the Host, Stacey
Expat yoguini living in Costa Rica. - I am a San Jose fanatic. It's a great small-town kind of city with museums, parks, restaurants and friends waiting at the doorstep.
I love to eat, practice yoga, go to local concerts, garden, hike and explore!
After being here for 6 years I could never live without Salsa Lizano, Gallo Pinto, walkable streets, my street pets or all of my fabulous Costa Rican friends!
If this room is booked, please write me to see if second room at same space is available.
