The units are close to KFC, and the beach and main shopping area.. Walk to the beach and enjoy Sanur's famous path for a walk, run or ride along the 5 km. The traditional night markets of Sanur and local markets are not far and you can enjoy real Indonesian and Balinese fare in the evenings from as little as $2.

Pondok Gaya is in a safe local area, with access to bypass and the local bus routes. The beach offers local restaurants with great coffee, or cocktails whichever you desire, fresh home made bread at Lhutus Coffee shop...and she makes all her own yummy cakes, and the lovely Sanur Beach which is protected by the reef.

Bus stop on Bypass takes you to Kuta, Ubud, Seminyak and other places of interest for a small fare cost. It is a quick trip into Denpasar from here.

Any water sports activities, such as Jet ski, Stand up paddle, Banana Boat, Wind surfing, are available at the beach.

The neighborhood

Pondok Gaya is situated on the western side of the By Pass, about 10 minutes walk to the northern end of the beach.

Suggestions: Barista Cafe just out on the bypass, about 80 meters walk towards KFC on same side...set back off the bypass in a group of shops..has great coffee and sandwiches..worth a visit...cosy and cheap. Nelayan Cafe on the beach next to Shanti resort, has good coffee and food, and a crazy pavlova dessert..Great food , and home made cakes and bread at Luhtus coffee shop in Jalan Sindhu Pantai, on the beach. Also for just a coffee, the Kopi Kiosk, near Hardys. Bali Budda cafe near the Hyatt is organic, and there are other restaurants offering a range of vegetarian food. There is also Crema CAFE on the beach at Pantai Karang, (where you can view traditional cremations). Crema Cafe also has a little market store run by Pak Nyoman, who has been there for 30 years, where you can get trinkets, jewelry, some hand made by Pak Nyoman, and VERY good priced brass statues (cheaper than anywhere else we have noticed) to memorize your Bali stay. He also sells some groovy back packs made locally.

Walk a bit further north on the beach path and you come to the new kid on the beach, Nelayan Cafe..good coffee and food, music, and really shady and cool..bean bags..long chairs.. and Chef Jin, back in his home island from a long stint working in and with some high flying chefs in want something special just ask him!!

Also you can hire jet ski and stand up paddle from Pak Made he is happy to give lessons and is a really good guy.

We have many cuisines here, Thai, French, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, (URL HIDDEN) you will never go hungry...also the traditional night markets where you can get yummy cheap local food.

The last Sunday of the month at Merta Sari Beach, near Mercure Resort and the Yoga Barn, there is a lovely market, where you can buy yummy food and clothes, etc.
Sanur is a lovely truly unique holiday destination. It has much community Hindu spirit and many ceremonies. The beach is very popular as it is protected by a reef so relaxing and enjoying the area is a breeze. Sanur is one of the special spiritual places in Bali.
There are many water sports to be enjoyed in a safe and fun environment.
If you want to see the real Bali, this is the place. We have some beautiful ceremonies involving hundreds of people all dressed in ceremonial costume. They parade through the streets with music and color and it is a real spectacle. Open air cremations are held on the beach at Pantai Karang, 5 minutes walk from Hardys. You can watch from the sidelines but please do not get involved in the proceedings.
