I had such an amazing weekend here! The place is perfect for a nice little getaway. My dog loved it and we will definitely want to come back in the near future :) thanks for the amazing hospitality!
My husband and I stayed at Aunt Chris' Getaway and had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay. The bed was very comfortable, the decor light and cheery and everything one could need on a vacation stay was provided for. My daughter and her boyfriend live in La Jolla and came to visit us one evening while we were there. They brought food and we ate outside in the courtyard next to the room which was just lovely and private with its canopy tree covering. The neighborhood was exceptional. If I were ever to move to the San Diego area, it would be near Aunt Chris' in the South Park area. Just a short walk and we were greeted by the quaint shops and dining in that area. Had a delicious crepe breakfast at Cafe Madeleine and the next night a scrumptious dinner at Buona Forchetta - quite the Italian experience, very authentic! We met some of the neighbors (very friendly) who were walking their dog one evening and they gave us two guest passes to the San Diego Zoo. Aunt Chris is a lovely individual and made our stay memorable. I hope to have the opportunity to stay there again on our next visit.
It was excellent. Chris is an amazing host, and was great at staying in communication with us. The room itself was wonderful, very comfortable. The shower was finicky and we took a few cold showers, but really no complaints otherwise. Great stay!
Chris is an awesome host and I feel as if I made a friend knowing her. The room is exactly as described - maybe even better with little touches of hospitality to make my stay easier. The garden area is beautiful - if you want to have a tropical escape, this is the place!
We were met by Chris and her two adorable dogs upon check-in and got a brief tour of her guest house. The space was super clean, private, and had all of the amenities you could ask for (hair dryer, wifi, cable tv, iron and ironing board, and tons of extra towels, among other things). And the bed was so comfortable! The neighborhood was quiet, beautiful, and close to downtown San Diego. We visited when San Diego was experiencing an unusual heat wave (afternoons were 90+ degrees), so the room would get *hot* during the day. The air conditioner helped a bit, but struggled to keep the room cool during the daytime. Fortunately, the shady patio offered some reprieve and the weather got much better once the sun set :-)
Our host asked us to arrive after 4:30 pm, which we agreed to do, even though our plane arrived in town at 10:30 am. Mid-day, we called our host to check in with her on her two different numbers and left messages, checking in just in case her guests had left earlier after all. Our calls were never returned. At 4:30, we arrived to find the room very hot. I sat on the edge of the bed in order to read the A/C controls and to turn on the A/C. As I sat down, the bed leg collapsed. My husband looked under the bed and said several of the legs had problems but would probably 'hold up'. For the collapsed/broken leg, he found a log in the patio fireplace to use to prop the bed up. It remained our bed leg for the entire week. Our host returned from a trip midway through our rental period and told my husband that the 14 year old who was supposed to have checked in on us daily and provide filtered drinking water (there's only a very small bathroom tap in the sink from which to get (email hidden)d the water needs filtering for drinking purposes) failed to do so. We had two final disappointments in this airbnb experience: First: two windows above the head of the bed...windows that opened inward from the top and are supposed to be latched with a wing-like latch on the top of the window frame, had not been properly latched by someone before our arrive, and the windows crashed down onto the bed. If I had been napping, one of them would have fallen on my head. The other hit the lamp on the bedside table and shattered the glass. My husband, fortunately, was sitting outdoors on the patio reading when he heard the two windows fall inwards towards our bed. He reported it to the host. The host told my husband she'd clean up the glass. When we returned much later in the day, a lot of broken glass remained in the one broken window. I found one small shard of glass in my bed sheets and saw some glass glinting on the floor in the evening lamp light. Second: The final couple of days in our week-long stay, both of us began getting flea bites during the night. Our host's dogs came into our room when we were there a couple of times because we had our room's door ajar so we could get some air into our very hot room. I never had a conversation with the host beyond polite 'hellos', but my husband said she was very nice and pleasant to talk to. She provided us with a table fan that helped us have some air in the room our final days. The A/C & fan was fairly ineffective. In the 3 times we've used airbnb, this is the only time the we were sorry we had chosen this place to stay.
I was truly disappointed to read your review after having been so gracious to you when you expected (not hoped for) an early check in and broke my bed and window. A 14 year old is capable of dropping off water. If the fan I provided was not sufficient to make yourself comfortable, you always had the option of using the brand new air conditioner. Absolutely without a doubt, I do not have fleas in my room and my pets do not have fleas. I am so sorry you were unhappy with your experience. I wish you better luck next time in a different Airbnb.
