Interaction with Guests
Everyday everyone having meals together in lunches and dinners. We chit chat, share stories and exchange cultures. We are very friendly and if you have any questions, I always sit in the office to help you.
Our alley is actually place to stay of teachers and professors of Vietnam University of Fine Arts since 1925, the oldest university in Indochina. My house face to the wall back of their office. So people around are well educated and polite. They prefer quiet and clean and say hi to them, you will see how friendly Vietnamese people are
Out of our alley 50m on the left is the bus stop which many buses goes everyday. On the right also 50m is main train station to everywhere. Main street in front of alley is actually the national road A1, means turn right go directly you come to Hochiminh mausoleum and turn left go straight you go to Hochiminh city
No rules :-) Just be nice, clean, polite and quiet. Don't come back to late at night, especially in drunken mood
I had only booked for my first 4 nights and ended up staying for the rest of my stay.
Mike arranged for a taxi to pick me up from the airport which was really convenient.
This is a great place with very nice people and amazing food.
It is also very flexible - much better than a hotel as you can check in and check out at very flexible times.
I also really appreciated that I could leave my bag there whilst I was taking a few days away in Sapa and in Mai Chau.
I didn't get to spend much time with Mike but the people working there are super friendly and will really get out of their way to help you.
They have become my friends.
If I come back to Hanoi, I will stay there again!
We spend two nights in this homestay and it was a perfect introduction to Vietnam. Tracy and Bella are two delightful Vietnamese girl who show us what to do and help us a lot. They also cooked for everybody staying there and it was simply yummy!!
I'm looking forward to come back!
This was such a great intro to Hanoi - I highly recommend this homestay! Tracy is awesome and the rooms are simple and beautiful.
Mike Homestay is the best choice if you want to travel in hanoi backpacking. Tracy, Mike, Olivia and staff have been very great hosts. They were always warm, helpful and considerate. Tracy helped me in booking the cruise tour to Ha Long bay and taxi to and back in advance.
The room was nice and comfy, there's home cooked food and water provided. Tracy even took me out for a night tour after dinner by scooter, it was amazing.
The location is literally 3 mins from the railway station, good for travellers going by trains.
I'll recommend Mike Homestay as the accommodation in Hanoi.
My partner and I had a fantastic stay at Mike Homestay. Mike's family and staff are very friendly and helpful. The house is located right near the train station, within walking distance to the Old Quarter, but far away enough to get a more authentic experience in Hanoi. We shared a few delicious meals with the family and other travellers, which was really fun. The room was well-equipped and comfortable. We felt very much at home in the house, and will definitely stay there again when we're next in Hanoi!
Mike, his wife, and brother were great hosts. We had home-cooked meals and one of them was always around to help, and we went out a few times with them. It was nice getting to experience Hanoi with locals. They were great at accommodating my changes in plan and were helpful with arranging trips and transportation.
The bed in my room was the traditional Vietnamese style, so very hard, but I slept ok. Aircon worked well. Wifi was a bit weak in some spots but when it worked it was fast. You'll need to bring your own towel. When doing laundry it can take up to 24 hours for your stuff to dry because of humidity. Getting to the old town was about a five minute ride by taxi, costing under $2 each way.
I met lots of great people at the homestay. This alone made it well worth staying there.
Mike Homestay is run by a very friendly and helpful group of people. They really want you to enjoy your time in Hanoi. They helped me and my friend book our Halong Bay excursion. They helped me book a eco-homestay in Mai Chau, including transportation, even during Tet! They helped us with taxis and airport transfers. They also were able to sell me a SIM card when I arrived, let me store my bag there while I was on an excursion, and provided a handy "best of" list of sights and services (restaurants, ATMs, etc.) in Hanoi.
The rooms were nice and the location was fantastic: right by the main train station, within 20 to 30 minutes' walking distance of the old quarter, the french quarter, and the area just west of the old quarter (three happening parts of the city). It was also *quiet* so you could sleep at night, which seems hard to find in Hanoi.
They are also intimately connected with the local couchsurfing (CS) community, and can help you meet with other like-minded, outgoing travelers (if that's your thing).
Just remember that it's a homestay, not a hotel. They try to help you out, but it helps to be self-sufficient. For example, they provide some toiletries, but it would probably be wise to bring your own.
I would recommend Mike Homestay to any traveler looking for a comfortable, homey vibe with family feel. It's much better than a hostel and more affordable than a hotel.
