We have just spent 7 weeks avoiding the winter in the northeast at this house in Normal Heights. We were met by the host, and then she left us alone unless we needed something. If we had a problem, we texted and received an immediate response. The location is outstanding, literally 15 minutes from everywhere (it became a running joke). One of our friends did not have a car, and had no problem taking the bus at the corner of Adams Avenue, about 2 blocks away.
The accommodations are more than adequate, the beds and bedding superior. The kitchen has a washer/dryer and dishwasher, although the pots & pans and coffee maker leave something to be desired. I doubt most people stay as long as we did and therefore don't need to cook. Parking can be a bit of a problem; they were doing roadwork in front of the house, and although the parking lot in the back is convenient, the full-time tenants in the other houses on the lot (lovely people by the way) are careless in the way they park and take up two spots, leaving no room for us. Be aware that the middle bedroom is actually a passage between the original house in the front, and the newer extension in the back, and doesn't have doors. You have to walk through it to reach the other side of the house. The house can be quite cold at night, each room has a space heater which takes care of that. Overall, recommend highly.
We had a comfortable stay. House is in a convenient location for tourists. Also it's like a tardis :) - looks small on the out side but big on the inside. You do have to go through one of the bed rooms to get to two of the other room which might not suite some people. It was fine for us since we were staying with close family/siblings. Also the off road parking around the back helps. If we are back in San Diego will happily stay here again.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay in San Diego. The location was very nice and the neighborhood felt nice/safe. It was convenient to mall, grocery stores, food options and the zoo (within 5 minutes to all driving). The house was large enough to accomodate my 3 children, wife, and grandma in each of their own "rooms" but one of the bedrooms is a converted office without a door. Since we had 3 young kids that needed to go to sleep early, we were landlocked and had to be very quiet. The 2 bathroom options were great for the adults, however. The private parking in the back was nice as an option as street parking was difficult, although it was a little walk (but still the option was great). The house was overall clean and having internet was absolutely essential. I think Linda was very nice and responsive over e-mail and phone. She tried to work with us with an early arrival time.
Pros: Location, Parking optional in back, quiet neighborhood, Cleanliness, Lots of towels, host, overall price
Cons: No central air (it was hot especially when dryer running and we didn't feel comfortable leaving windows open at night with young kids, call us paranoid), outdated fans, no curtains in bedroom, no TV in any bedrooms
NOTE TO POTENTIAL GUESTS: Make sure you are aware that many homes in this area (and California I understand) DO NOT have central air, which me not being from California, I had no idea. . . and my wife was not too happy about considering how much I had studied reviews and places. I missed this completely on the site (to Linda's credit, it does not say central air, so I missed it. . . )so don't assume like I did coming from the other side of the country).
Overall, the home worked out well and we quite were happy.
Please note that this year California is suffering from a drought resulting in extremely unusual hot weather with record breaking high temperatures. Most older homes in southern CA don't have a/c and are not equipped to handle the extreme hot weather we've had this year. There are thick levolers in all bedroom windows to ensure privacy. The area is a safe family neighborhood with no worries about leaving windows open.
The home was very nice and clean; the website photos were accurate and a true representation of the home. We didn't need all the bedrooms but it was nice to have the extra space (one bedroom was walk-thur style). I was thankful to have washer/dryer available. Linda was very helpful and flexible as my flight was delayed so she agreed to meet my son for keys. Only suggestion- central air or a/c units of some type. I would recommend Airbnb and Linda's home to anyone traveling to San Diego. Thanks, Beverly
I stayed in the house over Labor Day weekend with my husband, 1 year old son, my parents, 3 brothers, 1 sister-in-law, and my 8 month old niece. Even with 8 adults in the house, everyone was comfortable. We were in town for a family wedding, and the house was about 15 minutes from anywhere we wanted/needed to go (including the beach and shopping in old town), so the location was perfect. We weren't at the house much during the day, so the lack of A/C didn't really bother us, and Linda had plenty of fans in the house that helped keep it cool at night. She was prompt meeting us and gave us everything we needed for the long weekend (including lots of towels- thanks Linda!). Met the neighbors too, who were incredibly nice and welcoming, offering their assistance if we needed anything. We would definitely stay here again!
Had an amazing time at Linda's beautiful house. She was very helpful, let us have our privacy but anytime we needed her she always responded and tried to help will definitely come back loved California and her house
We liked house layout and Linda was a great host to our family. Location was good and close to everything.
