We have one guest room available in our river front home. It has hickory wood floors and a new double bed. Our simple Alaskan home is on the Kenai Peninsula, located on the Kasilof River. It is perfect for a day of fishing from shore or by a guided drift boat trip down the world famous Kasilof River. If fishing isn't your thing, just relax on the deck and watch the others... And from your home base here, you can explore all areas of the Kenai Peninsula, one day at a time. We have eagles galore and moose visit regularly. We are located close to Kenai, (website hidden), Deep Creek, Anchor Point and Homer. Seward is a beautiful 1 1/2 hour drive. Our home is non-smoking indoors. Well trained pets and well mannered children are welcome! We have 3 small (8 lbs.) dogs and one monster huge dog. We call him the gentle giant. They are all mostly obedient and we would not allow them to bother you. Our animals are never allowed in our guest room, even when it is not occupied. We have also recently inherited a cat from our son. Grrrr... Our home is located two miles from an excellent diner and convenience store and you are welcome to use our kitchen. The map does not accurately depict the location of our home. It is located right on the river's edge. You could easily throw a rock, from the deck, and hit the water. We are 3 hours from Anchorage, but a 20 minute flight from Anchorage to Kenai. I recommend the drive from Anchorage. It's beautiful and there are many stops to make along the way. There is no public transit in this area, and it would be necessary to rent a car. Daily 1/2 day or full day fishing charters (for either Salmon or Halibut) are abundant in this area and reservations should be made ahead of time. Please contact us to answer any other questions you may have. Hope to hear from you.
Jyll and Ray have created a safe, gorgeous and smart space in Kasilof - and it was a joy to be their guest! I was exhausted from a jam-packed stay in Girdwood when I hit the road to start driving to Homer (Ray and Jyll have a perfect location if you're taking a similar route). I arrived at their gorgeous property to fresh salmon, baked zucchini and banana bread - talk about a warm welcome! Tired, but engaged in their thoughtful conversation and company, I curled up on the couch and stayed up for a couple of extra hours. :) I slept well and woke up to coffee, breakfast and more cozy conversation.
Ray and Jyll's reviews may sound too good to be true - but trust me, if you're lucky enough to stay with the Davis family (they have a brood of playful pups) - you'll be writing a stellar review, too. Thanks for everything, Ray and Jyll!
My boyfriend and I recently stayed with Ray and Jyll for our Labor day weekend. We had a fantastic experience from start to finish. The home is beautiful, the Kasilof river is soothing and the hosts (and their lovable dogs!) are fantastic. The room was very clean and more than suitable for our needs. We were interested in doing a bit of fishing that weekend and they linked us up with one of the premier fishing guides in the area! The thermos of hot coffee left for us the morning of our fishing trip was well received and thoughtful! While always respectful of our privacy, they were open and engaging hosts and we never felt anything less than welcome and valued :) As a bonus, Jyll prepared a sumptous dinner after our long day of fishing. We feel that we not only found a wonderful place to stay, but new friends as well!
wow! Ray and Jyll were a big part of making our Alaskan Experience unforgettable. They shared their home, food , and conversation with us in a way that seemed like I knew them for a long time. ( I know that we would be friends if we lived there) Their home on the River was beautiful and hospitality outstanding. Over the top nice people! Blessed to have stayed with them!!!
I spent 2 of the greatest days of my life with 2 of the nicest people I have ever met. I had a great Alaska Experience with Ray and Jyll. The location of there home is right on the beautiful Kasilof river with views that are breathtaking. They opened there home to me as if they had known me all my life. After arriving on a Sunday evening they invited me to share an awesome salmon dinner. I had planned to go fishing with Ray the next day being from Texas I had never been salmon fishing in my life. Ray not only took me fishing but took me to where the fish were we caught 3 kings weighing from 30 - 53 lbs. I caught a 53 lb king that was 51" long I was so excited and am still telling everyone and showing my pictures I hope they will post the pictures on this site. We also caught some reds and 1 pink. Jyll was so nice she actually got out of bed as it was well after midnight when we got back to see my fish and to take pictures. Jyll actually washed my clothes for me so that I would not have fishy smelling clothes in my luggage. I would reccomend to anyone wanting to "Experience Alaska" to stay at Ray and Jylls. I could go on and on but I have all the memories and pictures to reflect on especially of my trip on the river seeing eagles, huge fish, and just the beauty that you can not see from anywhere unless you are there. Thank you Ray and Jyll for a wonderful time.
Ray and Jyll could not have been better hosts. They had a very comfortable and clean room for my girlfriend and me. We had a great time getting to know them, fishing on the banks of the Kasilof in back of their house and relaxing on their gorgeous property. I am so glad we got to meet them and you will too!
We loved our stay with Ray and Jyll in their beautiful riverside house and wish we could have stayed longer. Their warm hospitaity was a delight and the campfire on the deck will be one of our special memories of Alaska. Ray's passion for fishing and his fishing stories kept us entertained, too bad we did not catch a salmon but it was fun trying. We were made to feel very welcome, and were even taken to dig for clams with the neighbours!
Thankyou Ray and Jyll.
Fabulous hosts and great place!! I had an extended a business trip a day or two to explore Alaska a bit, and intended to travel down to Homer from Ray and Jyll's place. No need! From the moment I showed up until the next day when I left having caught a 17 lb. silver salmon with Ray, I had a better time than I ever could have imagined! They offer a really nice, clean room and Jyll's thoughtful enough to put out some travel essentials in case you forgot something or run out. Did I mention she even had extra postcards? They were the perfect hosts (they even fed me a salmon dinner!) and I hope when people leave from my airbnb listing, I can have provided half of what Ray and Jyll did.
Our children are grown and on their own. God bless them. Our home is peaceful. We enjoy hosting and meeting new people and sharing our Alaska experience with them. We moved to Alaska from 'corporate' Orange County, CA eight years ago and have enjoyed a wonderful slower pace of life since the first day we moved here. We are hunting and fishing enthusiasts and look forward to meeting you and sharing our home with you. Summers are light all night here, but if you want quiet early, we can provide that with No Problem! Our guest room also has blackout curtains for peaceful sleep.
