Interaction with Guests
We live on O'ahu so you will be on your own. We are constantly available by phone to answer questions or facilitate your stay.
Our neighborhood is characterized by quiet streets. There are many forested lots which gives the area a country feel, but we have several full time neighbors to make you feel safe. Our street has a dead end so the only people who pass by live on the street. There are no street lights making the star gazing incredible.
Our recently built, finely furnished home is centrally located on the windward side of Hawaii Island. Fly into Hilo airport and enjoy visiting beautiful tropical forests, the volcano, and black sand beaches. You might even be able to see glowing lava at night a short drive from the house.
The "hele on" bus stops a couple of blocks from the house. It comes infrequently so you will definitely need a car to stay here. You can park your car in the driveway. Ask about car rental, we have a car parked in the garage available for rent.
Other Things to Note
On Hawaii island many stores do not provide bags for your shopping, you may wish to put a few in your luggage if you plan to shop before you check in. There are reusable bags provided at Hale Lau Hala.
*Children age 6 and younger will need a child's booster seat in the State of Hawaii.
Hale Lau Hala is smoke and pet free making it safe for our guests with allergies.
This is our personal home, please treat it as the beautiful retreat it is. Sound travels easily through the forest. Be respectful of our neighbors.
Our cleaning fee covers regular housekeeping. Please take care of the small things yourself: wash your dishes, wash laundry in excess of 2 loads, and leave only one large bag of trash. Deliver excess trash to the "Transfer station" Hawaii speak for "the dump" Check out how the locals recycle everything from appliances to rubbish. There is no trash pick-up in the country.
Hale Lau Hala is a gorgeous get away. It's a well appointed 3 bedroom house with all the amenities. It's also in a perfect spot for visiting Pahoa and the beautiful eastern tip of the big island. Catherine was very helpful and accommodating when I needed to change the reservation.
The house was extremely clean, which pleased all of us, especially my mother in law. Cathryn also kindly had the windows opened and fans going to have the house nice and cool when we arrived. New fridge was nice to see and use. Appreciated the tip by Cathryn to visit the Sunday market. It was great, we bought a lot of produce to eat during our stay, and local gifts to take back. It's a very well-kept house in Pahoa and recommend it to others who don't mind not being right by Hilo.
The place is beautiful, neat and fully equipped. All rooms are spacious, beds are comfortable and everything works fine. I definitely recommend it if you're looking for a peaceful and comfortable place. Thanks Cathryn!
We had a great experience at Hale Lau Hala. The house was nicely furnished, very clean, and well stocked with supplies. There was an ice chest and snorkel gear for us to use, which was great. The outside was a beautiful jungle setting. The critters can be a bit loud at night, but you get used to them. They provide an ambiance that you wind up missing when you leave.
Catherine was also great. She responded quickly to all of my messages/questions. This was my first time renting a home like this, but was absolutely pleased with it. I highly recommend staying here or any other properties Catherine has to offer.
Excellent communications from Cathryn during the booking process. Promptly replied to all our questions. We found the house very easily with the directions given. House is very nice, comfortable, clean and freshly decorated. Everything was there for the four of us, comfortable beds and the use of all their facilities. Good location, very quiet and not too far from Pahoa... which, by the way, was different in every other way to the rest of the Big Island. But in a good way; no joggers, golfers or German luxury cars here! I need to get a tattoo for the next time we come! Thank you.
This house is well furnished and clean. We, a family of three, had a good time there.
Its just a short drive to Hilo/Airport, Pahoa Village and the Volcona Park.
Cathryn was very helpful when there were any problems or questions.
We could recommend this place!
