The Sunshine Coast is where the sea meets the mountains. A varied land and sea scape with much to offer. There are adventure tours, boat rentals, great cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and sledding in winter, hiking and mountain biking galore in summer. Farmers markets and farm stands, beaches and parks to explore. Even some old growth forest left: see it while you can, and help protect it. It's a special part of the world.
There is a local bus stop right at the corner, and an express bus on the highway to get quickly to area towns, or the ferry.
Please note that there is a soaker tub only, no shower. Relax while bathing ;-) A full size fridge is in the mud room, there is a counter top convection oven, handmade and mismatched pottery funkiness, with a good chance of long grass and the occasional spiderweb. This is a family-friendly dog-inhabited shaggy round the edges property not a professional b'n b operation. The BBQ takes charcoal, let us know if you need a starter bag. There is a fire pit for campfires.
My boyfriend and I had a fantastic time at Eric's cottage. It was exactly what we were looking for in a relaxing retreat. The cottage was very cute and cozy, we both loved the rustic feel and appreciated the privacy. The bed is huge and extremely comfortable. The bathtub is a great size and the fireplace was a nice touch. Joe creek is a short walk away and more powerful than I expected. I'd definitely come back here in a heart beat, and would love to stay again in the summer time.
A quaint little space that's perfect for a long weekend getaway - for a writing and drawing retreat, or for a homebase from which to explore the nearby beaches and trails. We had a great time!
I was not prepared for the beauty and feeling of remoteness at the "cottage" (my grandmother raised seven kids in a house not much bigger than the "cottage"). While I was minutes away from all amenities I rarely heard a car drive by and the sound of Joe Creek dominated whenever I stepped outside. The forest is genuinely beautiful and very nice for a stroll. Occasionally I would encounter a neighbour and they were always friendly.
The cottage was more than comfortable and I spent many hours sitting in the big chair in the living room reading or just staring out at the trees. A very relaxing retreat indeed! I'll try to book here again next I return.
We had a wonderful stay - the location was great, the beds were comfortable and it felt really homely! Will definitely be back again when we're next on the Sunshine Coast!
The place was fantastic, and Eric respected our one request for privacy during our stay. The cabin is super cute, very cozy and clean. It's a little rustic, so if you aren't comfortable with that you might want to look elsewhere. For us, it was a perfect fit.
My partner lost her necklace at the cabin, and Eric was kind enough to offer to send it to us by mail. Very thoughtful and appreciated.
Overall a great time in a great place, thanks Eric!
Great little rustic cottage with a midcentury modern vibe. Lots of room to spread out. Lovely grounds and close enough to cycle to Roberts Creek amenities. Nice beaches nearby.
We enjoyed our stay and Eric & Kendra were close by if you needed anything but totally respected your privacy.
Had a great week.
The cottage is very cozy! There are flowers all around and the location is great. There is a beach nearby, where we were able to swim and walk along the shore. The cottage itself has everything you need for a quiet, relaxing stay.
Thank you to Eric!
Seeing Eric's review 'Mm' I thought I should respond even though I'm still on holiday. I was very disappointed in the cottage. We had to request the firepit be cleared up and the nearby foliage be cut back in order to use the area. The pathways were overgrown, and while we were there Eric mowed one strip before his electric mower got clogged with the high grass. The pictures show a picnic table but there wasn't one. Eric put together two saw horses and planks.?? The place hadn't been swept as well as hair in the catchbasin of the sink. Crumbs in the counter oven. Spider webs in a lot of the corners and windows, which most didn't open. The fridge (not in the kitchen, but in the back porch) was dirty, and had almost finished bottles of various sauces & dressings, which quite frankly I would never touch. As well, the freezer was filled with someone else's stuff, and hadn't been cleaned. The thing that got me most was on the last day when we came back from an outing my husband asked if someone had been in the cottage as the inside-backdoor was ajar. I said it might have popped open, but when I went to get ice in the freezer it was jammed packed with a shopping bag full of stuff?? They had entered our place!! That sent me to the moon as I shouldn't have to feel someone has entered without asking, and feel they may have rummaged through our belongings. Not a nice feeling, and even if they had good intentions we paid for the space for the time period and they should NEVER have entered. When we rent a place we rent the freezer as well. It shouldn't be used to store the owner's food. Also the kitchen wasn't that put together ..missing stuff. Only one steak knife, 4 plates, 2 mugs (odd handles), no tongs. The filter in the coffee pot was so dirty we didn't use it. BBQ was a broken and outdated model using briquettes, which didn't even get warm enough to cook the one steak we tried, and had to cook it in the counter toaster oven. Also no tongs. First time for everything I guess. I can do rustic, but not dirty, nor entering without permission. The forest area was awesome, I can say that much even though other neighbours were coming through our area. Also very close to the road and very noisy with big trucks barrelling down the road. I had read all the reviews before going and was really looking forward to relaxing in an out-of-the-way quiet cottage. Too bad it didn't work out that way. We haven't given up on airbnb as we'll know what questions to ask next time:-)
Thanks for the detailed feedback Donna. We are working to address all these issues, including the firepit and picnic table. We have found that keeping the fridge in the back room keeps it quieter in the cottage. We very much apologize for going into the mud room and freezer without notifying you first. We had a frozen fish emergency! We will never do that again without asking permission. Of course we didn't enter the main rooms or go through your stuff :-( We will be clear with future guests about having only limited space in the freezer or better yet, solve our freezer issues as soon as we can. The misses on cleaning were our fault, due to hurry and child care issues that day, and very sorry about that. Please do know that we did sweep the place thoroughly and cleaned the kitchen and bathrooms of course. We don't always have time to mop with a two hour turnaround so may need to adjust our check in/check out times. Of course we can't guarantee you won't see a cobweb, long grass, or handmade pottery, as that is the nature of this place. Rustic for sure! I think you might have missed the additional 4 coffee mugs on the bottom shelf? :-) While the great majority of our guests are having a good experience, you surely didn't and we are sorry for that. We know what it's like to be disappointed and don't want to be the source of that whenever we can avoid it! Good luck with your future airbnb adventures.
We had a very relaxing and pleasant stay at Eric's great cottage. The place was as described and the pictures do a great job of displaying the space. Even without meeting Eric, things were setup very well, and the 'handbook' available in the cottage proved to be a great resource for local suggestions and information. This a great place to enjoy some time away from the 'big city'.
The Sunshine Coast BC Cottage is a great little find. It was the perfect size for us. We appreciated the artistic details and minimalist nature and especially enjoyed the front porch with a view of the forest trees, the beautiful garden and sounds of the babbling brook. It had everything we needed to get out of town for a couple of days including a large king bed and a soak tub with window above to enjoy the outside greenery. The innkeepers were very friendly and accommodating.
The cottage was a 1/2 hr. drive to a kayak rental in porpoise bay and a three minute drive to the small beach area of Robert's Creek.
The only bummer was the cottage is situated on a somewhat active road. Thankfully the road was quiet at night.
