We were welcomed before we even arrived!
Gabriele's directions to the house, and Simona's directions by phone had us arrive at Casetta d'Assisi in time to witness our first (beautiful) Umbrian sunset from the front garden.
The house is gorgeous - a classic, rustic style house on the hill. Set in a terraced garden, with generous bedrooms, bathrooms on each level and with dining and kitchen spaces that catered perfectly for long, languid dinners for a party of seven. Half of our group were from Northern Italy, and the other half primarily from Australia, but the house still managed to fulfill each of our Umbrian dreams.
We spent a very happy week exploring Assisi, Perugia, Spoleto, Spello, Orvieto... and even Marmore, returning each evening to a 'home'-cooked meal and a bottle or so of the many local vintages.
Thank you to Simona especially - for her welcome, tips on the local scene, and for checking on us later in the week to make sure everything was well.
It was. We look forward to coming back another time!
A lovely welcome from the charming and helpful Leda and Laura; a wonderful, charming and well-equipped house in a great location (assuming one has a car), near to Assisi and local shops, with a great view over the valley beneath. We loved absolutely everything about the house except for the dogs nearby who need to be a little more considerate of the visitors trying to sleep at La Caseta. Maybe some thicker curtains could help...
Gabriele's directions to Casette d'Assisi were great, and we found the house with no problem. It is absolutely marvelous - we could not believe our good fortune in being able to stay here. The kitchen is entirely well-equipped and we ate four of the five evening meals at home, having picked up groceries at a well-stocked store in Viole, a 4 minute drive from the house. The house is spacious and beautifully furnished. It is large, we didn't use the second floor of the house at all. The views over the adjoining Umbrian valley are breathtaking, and sitting out on the balcony with a glass of wine, watching the sun set, was one of the peak experiences of our trip to Italy. On a more mundane note, the house has not only a clothes washer, but an iron and ironing board, and a hair dryer (for those of you who are wondering what you need to pack). Access to Assisi, which is a gorgeous city, was incredibly easy. In all, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Casetta d'Assisi. The house's setting on Mount Subasio was also really wonderful - we were afraid we'd be in a urban or suburban setting and were so happy with the natural setting of the house. We were met at the house by the owner's aunt, so getting access was made very easy.
Splendido luogo per grandi e piccini gestito da persone delicate.
Buono per 10-12 persone
We stayed for 3 weeks at the Casetta d'Assisi and had a wonderful time! We found the house and yard to be very well kept with everything in good working order. We had difficulty finding the house with GPS on our tablet but Gabriele had his aunt and uncle meet us in Assisi and escort us to the house. Each bedroom has a beautiful view of the Umbrian hillside and valley. The beds were firm but comfortable. The kitchen was functional and we managed to happily crank out meals for all 7 of us! The washing machine worked well and the clothes line allowed us to dry clothes easily. We spent most of our time outside in the yard as it has a wonderful view of the valley. There were ample chairs and tables for eating outside or inside the house. We have many beautiful memories of sipping wine, watching the sun set and enjoying meals and laughter with our family at this house. The neighbors were welcoming and friendly. The house is about 1.25 miles from Assisi. It took me about 45 minutes to walk it, but there is often little room on the side of the road so I had to walk in the road. There is a lovely little village (Viole) just a short walk from the house. There is a well stocked store in Viole which we found handy. The lower bedroom was comfortable also but had no screen on the window or door. On hot nights it was a choice between letting the cool air in or keeping the bugs out. Overall it is a great place and we would highly recommend it!!
