Park Slope is one of NYC's safest, prettiest, quietest, most desirable neighborhoods. Its close proximity to Prospect Park (Brooklyn's Central Park) and numerous cafes, restaurants, bars, shops, and farmer's markets make it a fabulous place to stay.
I had some great links to post about the area, but airbnb hides urls. If you pull up a search for Park Slope, do check out the wikipedia page about it. Also the Prospect Park site gives good info. And the Time Out NY site has a good overview of places to eat/drink/shop and things to do in the area. I also have tons of recommendations as well!
The apartment is a 5-minute walk from the 2/3 (email hidden) Plaza, a 5-minute walk from the Q/B trains at 7th Ave, and a 12-minute walk from the Atlantic Terminal where you can access the 4/5/D/N/R, Long Island Railroad, and Air Train to JFK.
Please let me know if you need assistance in planning your ground transportation from the airport. I also have contact info for local car services.
No pets. (building rules)
No children. (It's just not a child-proof environment.)
Only two guests.
No roof access.
No one else allowed in the apartment when you (the guest who has booked through airbnb) are not present.
Be sure to lock the front door at all times.
Be sure to lock the windows when you leave the apartment.
Be sure to turn off the AC and lights when you leave.
Be considerate of and courteous to my neighbors, please.
If there is any problem with the apartment, the building, my belongings, or you need help, please call me AND email me immediately.
My girlfriend and I stayed at Marisa's apartment for seven nights and found it well-suited for our vacation. It's situated among Brownstones in a heavily residential neighborhood that is home to younger families (30's and 40's seems to be the prevailing demographic) with strollers and children all over. For the safety-conscious, it's hard to do better than this area, just west of Prospect Park. Walking home around 1:00am on a weeknight, there was never any real concern for safety though, as it is a major city, that shouldn't mean you aren't aware of your surroundings.
The apartment was on the third floor of an eight-unit building (two flights of steep steps up) and was very clean and tasteful. Marisa thoughtfully left coffee, yogurt, granola, and milk for us as well as access to her extensive spices and cookware. The full bed slept two very comfortably and running the small fan she provided was enough to keep the room cool. The bathroom was perfectly accommodating considering I'm about 6'4" and found the shower head to be raised enough that I could enjoy a hot shower (a rarity on AirBNB). Though we didn't meet any neighbors, we didn't hear much noise from them either.
The apartment faces the back of the building so you avoid noise off the 7th Avenue side however it is a bit open to Union Street and we heard a pretty steady stream of noise throughout our stay at night (occasional horns, sirens, typical NYC noise). This can be a bit distracting for some but it's something you tend to adjust to overnight.
The overall location of the apartment is hard to beat. It's two blocks from Prospect Park, about a five minute walk north up to Flatbush Ave. (with access to several subway lines) and another five to ten minute walk south to a different set of subway lines. If you're having trouble finding nearby restaurants, then you aren't trying hard enough. There is plenty to be found right out the door and with Flatbush nearby, there should be no shortage of options. Across the street is also a 24/7 convenience store (with more than enough organic/natural products) and a Duane Reed pharmacy on 7th/Flatbush should you need anything overnight.
Marisa was a terrific host and communicated often and clearly. When we told her about our flight arriving on a Saturday night, she made alternative arrangements to make sure we had the keys to the apartment. We felt like she was invested in ensuring that our trip began and ended smoothly and it was very appreciated.
Overall, our vacation was incredible and Marisa's apartment was a big part of that. Especially after a full day of walking Brooklyn and traversing the East River into Manhattan, visions of her couch helped pull my tired legs up the stairs and through the door.
The reservation was canceled 74 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
I had a fantastic experience staying at Marisa's place. She met me at the apartment to give me the keys and walk me through where things were, etc. She also left fresh flowers, a goodie bag in the fridge with fresh fruit, yogurt, and delicious coffee. The apartment is just as it looks in the photos. It's very airy, with two skylights, and tastefully furnished with a very clean, modern aesthetic. The eat-in kitchen is great for cooking, and the bathroom has skylight. So nice to see the sky while you're showering! The apartment is in a wonderful part of Park Slope, lots of beautiful trees and tons of great cafes, restaurants, and shops, with Prospect Park just two blocks away. LOVED MY EXPERIENCE and recommend Marisa's place very highly.
I had a wonderful experience staying at Marisa's and would wholeheartedly recommend it to other AirBnB'ers. Great energy and a real gem. Her apartment is designed with impeccable taste and is very sunny, relaxing, and conveniently situated. As a host, Marisa was communicative, hospitable, welcoming and understanding. Thanks for everything, Marisa!
What a lovely apartment right in the heart of Park Slope! Marisa is a wonderful host and was easy to communicate with during our stay. She was very generous with her things and even had a goodie bag with wine for us in the fridge! My friend and I found her apartment to be perfect for the two of us. It faces the back of the building so it was quiet, the street has everything you might need, easy access to Prospect Park and numerous wonderful restaurants...if available we would definitely want to stay here again!
This apartment is a jem! beautiful sunny & quiet flat, just as described. Marisa was great & very quick with communication and a very thoughtful and generous host. any questions were responded to by email or text very quickly. this is a very peaceful place in a fabulous neighborhood in Brooklyn. very close to subways & surrounded by great grocery shops, restaurants and coffee spots. it's a steep walk-up if you have heavy bags, but once you're settled it's totally manageable. would be very happy to stay here again in the future!
About the Host, Marisa
I love my home. I love my neighborhood. I love my fellow Brooklynites. You will too.
5 things I can't live without? Strong coffee, a good farmer's market, a gorgeous park to run in, and my comfy bed.
I keep my home neat and clean, so I do the same when I stay with others. When I travel, I'm not in the space much. I mostly need a clean, comfortable place to sleep. I'm usually out the door within an hour or 90 minutes in the morning. At night, I keep things pretty quiet and chill before bed. I'm usually too exhausted from the day's activities to stay up too late while traveling.
In terms of hosting, I just want people to be comfortable and enjoy my home. I look for low-key guests who will be courteous to my neighbors and respectful of my space and belongings. But what I love most is the idea of visitors getting to experience Brooklyn.
