Your HOST:

I live in New York, but my mom Evelyn is the person who will greet you. She is fluent in both Spanish and English, she knows the island very well and can recommend great eateries and amazing places worth visiting.

Location: Walking distance to all of Old San Juan's great sites. -Path to El Morro starts right in front of the building -San Cristobal Castle - La Princesa - The Saturday Farmers Market on Norzagaray St. - Plaza De Armas - Plaza Colon

Neighborhood: Located in the most convenient neighborhood in Old San Juan this corner apartment is flooded with light and features a wrap-around balcony that you can sit out on enjoying the morning breeze while you sip your first cup of Java for the day.

PARKING: Parking and traffic in Old San Juan is challenging to say the least. I suggest forgoing car rental when staying here. Take a cab from the airport for $25 and walk the old city. The Sheraton Hotel has a Hertz car rental desk for day/ road trips around the island.

  • Eva was a gracious host with superb suggestions for our stay in Old San Juan (OSJ). Her place was such a lovely apartment. The open air and balconies were perfect. It's a great place to hang out or simply use as a home base for visiting any destination within the city walls as it's all within walking distance. I would definitely stay here again.

If you're not familiar with OSJ, be aware it's rather noisy. A normal conversation on the street 3 stories below can sound like it's happening directly in your apartment and the city's always alive with activity.

  • Our stay was absolutely wonderful! My mother and I had the pleasure of staying in this lovely apartment. We were warmly welcomed by Evelyn (Shell's mom). She was amazing host and very friendly. From the brief but thorough tour of the island on a map made available to all guest the entire trip...to the best places to eat around the area and the best places to explore in OSJ. Evelyn made us feel comfortable and welcome. We woke up daily to a beautiful sunrise through our open shutters leading to the balcony. The wrap around balcony was the best! We could walk out of our bedroom and go to the living room all while enjoying the view of Calle del Sol. To top it off we would end some nights sitting out there enjoying the calming breeze and music. It was mom's first time using AirBnB and she was not comfortable with the idea. After meeting Evelyn she told me booking with AirBnB had been a great idea. We learn a lot about OSJ and Puerto Rico from Evelyn. On our last day in San Juan, Evelyn gave (email hidden) and we had a wonderful conversation with her. What are you waiting for?! Book this place. You won't regret it! If I am ever back in San Juan and will be booking again this apartment on Calle Sol.

  • My friend and I had a wonderful time staying in this apartment. It is centrally located, walking distance from everything you want to access in Old San Juan. The natural light in the mornings and evenings is wonderful and the space is very comfortable. Evelyn was a very gracious host - we felt as though we had privacy, but she was also there to answer any questions we had. Her food recommendations are spot on and every meal we ate at her recommended restaurants was delicious. Thank you, Shell and Evelyn!

  • This is a great place to stay in Old San Juan. It is centrally located, comfortable and has a great view. The pictures and information provided by the host are accurate.
Eva greeted us and provided great suggestions for restaurants, galleries and other places to visit. An outstanding suggestion she made was to visit the Saturday Farmers Market. We got to mingle with locals and it reminded us of our favorite public market at home.
    We highly recommend this listing.

  • As a solo traveler, I found this to be a nearly perfect place to stay in Old San Juan. Evelyn was a lovely roommate and excellent resource! The apartment itself is very clean, bright, and airy. The location is quite central and easy walking distance to everything. The only problem was the noise, which should not surprise, given the central location. However, that minor problem was easily overcome by a simple pair of earplugs. I would definitely stay again and recommend the place to others.

  • My first Airbnb experience was absolutely fantastic. The location was perfect right in the middle of everything. Third floor with private balcony. Evelyn is the perfect host with full of advice. She even wrote down places to check out for the rest of my trip around PR. As a solo traveler, felt very safe and comfortable. Bring ear plugs the bar across the street can get loud especially on weekends or join the party:)

  • We had a great time during our stay. Our host was very generous and helpful and the location was perfect. This is a bedroom in a shared third floor apartment. We shared a bathroom and living room with our host. This created no issues for us but we thought that it could have been made more clear so we knew what to expect. Highly recommended for one or two guests that will spend most of their time out and about.

About
I found this massive loft 2 years ago through a friend. So excited to find such an extremely rare space I signed a lease and moved in immediately before I even new what to do with it. Flash forward 2 years and I now find myself living with a Zimbabwean film producer running a communal share house aka (mini Bed & Breakfast) out of my loft. Rita (Zim film producer) and I met when she stayed at my loft for 2 weeks while looking for permanent accommodations in New York. Those permanent accommodations turned out to be at my loft where she’s become co-host to our house of international guests and the occasional Aussie refugee. My obsession with collecting mid-century furniture and flea market gems has hopefully made each of our three guest rooms as well as the rest of the loft a unique and comfortable space for our guests to call home. We recently starting a new tradition of cooking brunch every Sunday with our guests and friends. I’ve taken all the cooking lessons I fought my mother over as a youth, combined them with some new tricks to make them healthier and this has created the template for our brunch menu. Add guest contributions like orange flour-less cake from the Aussie Master chef contestant who stayed with us recently, or authentic Italian homemade pasta from the Milano girls. Food, and an international modge-podge of friendly folks discussing life from around the globe have made Sundays the most anticipated day of the week. Turning my loft into a communal space to be shared with travelers who become friends has been the most positively life altering decision I’ve ever made. With each passing person the experience gets exponentially greater. As characters in a great novel each guest who stays seems to unfold a little more of the story. I can’t ask for a better life. Rita and I look forward to meeting you soon.
