Calm and convenient location
Guests say this area is peaceful and it’s easy to get around.
106 5-star reviews say it all: 40 on walkability to the action yet with privacy; 49 raves of cleanliness, comfort and a kitchen with everything "and more." A true charmer that’s cozy without being campy; eco-cleaned and eclectic with comfy beds, fluffy towels, and an extra large shower made of gleaming glass & tile. From fine wines to foot-longs; brick-oven gourmet pizza to housemade chocolate; parks, beaches, a spa, and antiquing nearby—you’ll leave refreshed but you won’t want to leave. ;-)
The space
This 1950’s cottage sits on 3 lots (woods to the east/lawn to the west) and is one of the most private, spacious properties in the area.
Indoor-outdoor living in warmer weather: a cute front deck with cafe table/chairs overlooking the yard while a privacy-fenced backyard fire pit allows a taste of camping. Enjoy meals in the sunroom at a picnic-table-style (but sturdy and without the splinters) table seating 6. Breakfasts are made magical by the light of morning sun through crystals.
Interior design is a blend of vintage and modern decor—from whitewashed original hardwood floors to glossy quartz countertops; custom Spanish tile in the bathroom with basin sink and a spacious, sparkling glass shower. Beautiful light through newer windows with interior lighting that can be bright as daylight using recessed lights or softer with dimmers and lamps.
With central heat, air conditioning and ceiling fans, you’re comfortable all year round. In the warmer months it’s a true delight to open the windows and let the lake’s breeze flow through this lovely space.
—Beds & Bedrooms—
AirBnB lets you list # of bedrooms but has no place to add extra sleeping areas. The cottage has two fully private bedrooms sleeping up to 4 (2 queen beds with comfortable, medium-firm memory foam mattresses) PLUS a twin bed for a 5th guest, or to use as a reading nook, tucked in a corner of the sun room, which is also the laundry AND dining room. It sounds complicated but works nicely (see photos for a better sense of this space).
—Nonsmoking Props—
Nonsmokers and those with pet allergies will especially appreciate no lingering tobacco or dog smell/hair (as much as we love the furry friends).
—Cleaning Kudos—
With all 5-star reviews so far, guest say our place is “squeaky clean.” But we don’t just care about the look of things, we want the place to be nontoxic and smell fresh yet natural so use only nontoxic cleaning products like Mrs. Meyers, Method, and Seventh Generation. We also take extra steps to prevent the spread of germs by anti-bacterial-wiping of door handles, light switches, and the remote.
—Neighborhood Description—
A mix of vacationers and locals in single family homes and cottages, peppered with cabins, trailers, lawns and trees. Standard paved streets (without sidewalks) lead to the strip, lake, and park just two blocks away where you can walk to spectacular sunsets or drive to witness them from area beaches.
Here are our favorite places in Geneva on the Lake but we’re sure you’ll discover more.
In a 1 BLOCK WALK, you’ll find:
• Lakeside Market for quick food, snacks, drinks, ice, and deli
Carrying everything from firewood to s'mores ingredients to sunscreen, a selection of beverages, including beer and wine, a deli making fresh breakfast and lunch sandwiches, staples like eggs and butter and a gift shop with GOTL T-shirts and sweat shirts plus locally-made jewelry and body care products.
• East End Bar & Grill
• Eddie’s Grill’s famous fries and footlongs
Casual dining a bit longer walk or short drive up the Strip:
• The humble but wonderful family-owned Italian restaurant, Piero’s Pasta House
Madsen Donuts
Mary’s Kitchen
Corner Coffee House
Finer dining a short drive to end of strip:
• Crosswinds Grille
• Horizons Restaurant and Lounge at The Lodge Hotel
Contemporary/“Foodie” dining (truffle fries, wood-fire pizza and such)
• Drive 15 minutes to Ashtabula’s Bridge Street for 4 excellent restaurants: Nights & Weekends, Halcyon, Bascule Bridge, and Briquettes Smokehouse.
—How Many Cars? And About EV Charging—
You can fit 3 cars (plus golf cart) in the driveway. There’s no street parking in this area so this is a big plus! The EV plug is accessible near the front of the driveway and allows you to plug in your own standard level 1 or 2 charger into a 120/240v outlet (see photos). If you have a Tesla you’ll need an adapter (if available). Plug in at night if possible to keep electricity costs at non-peak rates (after 9pm).
—Getting Around—
Electric Vehicle guests who bring their own charging plug can park and charge right in the driveway. Driveway fits 3 cars (plus a golf cart) which is a big plus because there’s no street parking. General getting around is by car, bikes or golf carts (both can be rented locally…see guest guide). You can also use Uber or use a local taxi service.
—A Place for All Seasons—
While most of the Strip closes down for winter, nearby Ashtabula offers shops and restaurants open year round. Spire Institute is nearby to attend sporting events, and there’s always getting outdoors in any kind of weather to hike trails and pebble-covered beaches. Beautiful sunsets in the warmer season and the awe of the frozen lake in winter will stir your heart and rejuvenate your soul.
—Festivals, Music, Lively in Summer—
In summer, GOTL is a popular travel location with festivals/events so there can be noise from the strip. The odds of noise odds are lessened at Woodside Cottage because it’s situated off the Strip. If sensitive to sound, bring ear plugs or ear buds for using your phone/YouTube with its numerous white noise video options.

WHY WE’RE WAY BETTER THAN A HOTEL
=================================
What you get at Woodside Cottage that you won’t get at area hotels:
+ Two private rooms with queen beds plus room for a 5th
+ A fully-equipped kitchen with standard-sized appliances—from large refrigerator with ice-maker to cheese grater, waffle iron, dishwasher, 4 ways to make coffee (including grinder) and the best food you can bring and prepare when not dining out.
+ Privacy during your meals
+ Filtered water and ice on tap
+ A large shower
+ A large dining table, seating 6
+ Indoor-outdoor living, with a front deck and private fire pit
+ A TV twice as big as that in an average hotel—and connects to your streaming services

What you’ll AVOID by choosing our cottage instead of a hotel:
– Two beds in one room
– The sound of slamming doors and guest noises in hallways and adjoining rooms
– Elevators
– Communal dining
– Being stuck in your room without indoor-outdoor living
– Having to eat out for every meal, without a kitchen
– A mini frig, if any
– Paying for movies, laundry, ice, water
– Breakfast that tastes like plastic (the standard “free breakfast” of processed foods and ok-to-awful coffee)
– Cleaning products that leave behind toxic smells and surfaces
– Minimal or shared EV charging

•••••••WHAT TO BRING•••••••
FOOD & DRINK
Groceries, snacks, beverages. You may want to bring or stop in Ashtabula or Geneva if you plan to do your own cooking and want a larger grocery selection. Once in Geneva On The Lake, grocery store options are limited. Lakeside Market is 1 block away but doesn’t have a large selection of food items, nor does the gas station/convenience store as soon as you enter GOTL. There’s also a large Dollar General not far past Geneva State Park that sells food (shelved and in coolers).
PERSONAL CARE
• Toothbrushes and tooth paste
• Preferred brand of soap/shampoo/conditioner. The shampoo/body wash we provide will be Whole Foods, Method, or Smartly products in larger containers, not individual sample sizes. If that doesn't suit you, bring your preferred products.
FIRE PIT, GRILL, AND OUTDOORS
• Charcoal if grilling and lighter fluid
• Firewood – you can buy en route in Ashtabula. Lakeside Market, just a block away, also sells it but call them in advance to inquire as they run out during peak season.
• Kindling: you can find lots of branches and twigs in the woods but you can’t count on them being dry so we suggest bringing kindling
• S’mores supplies
• Bug spray
• Sunscreen
• Sun hat
• Beach towels
Guest access
You'll have full access to the cottage and grounds without sharing with owners or other guests other than those in your own party.
Other things to note
Don't Forget to Drift and Dream!
When planning outings like a wine tour, spa day, fishing expedition or sunset cruise, we dare you to leave time for just drifting, dreaming, and discovering. Drifty suggestions:
After deep sleep in soft cotton sheets, make waffles in the cottage's lovely kitchen and coffee in the French press or Keurig (starters provided or bring your favorite ground beans or pods). If you prefer to eat out, catch the breakfast buffet at the Lodge Hotel, just a 5-minute drive away or the old-fashioned-diner offerings of Mary’s Kitchen. Stop by Shem's Collectibles or Frank's Toy Box to enjoy shelves bursting with antique nostalgia then drive 10 minutes to Breakwater Beach for pebble-hunting, sun bathing, and swimming. Consider lunch by the lake at Crosswinds Grille then back to the cottage for relaxing, napping, journaling, reading, working on a puzzle, sipping wine. As late afternoon approaches, head to Ashtabula Harbor for drifting in and out of eclectic shops and for perhaps the best woodfire pizza in the U.S. at Nights and Weekends Pizza (you’ll find 10% off coupons at our coffee station next to our business cards). Toast your happy escape with fancy cocktails before heading back to the cottage for a backyard fire or a movie on your favorite media streaming service. Sweet dreams!
If the dates you're looking for are shown as unavailable, be sure to send us a message as things can change sooner than the calendar is updated and/or we may be able to shift our cleaning schedule between guests.
Please book only if you agree to no-smoking, no pets, and cancellation policies. Thank you and we wish you safe and happy travels wherever you may land.

Peak season rates, per person, are LESS THAN area hotels and with some big differences!
What you get at Woodside Cottage that you won’t get at area hotels:
1. A fully equipped kitchen with full-sized appliances—from cheese grater to waffle maker, large, ice-making frig to dishwasher and the best food you can make if you'd rather skip the restaurants.
2. Privacy during your meals
3. Filtered water and ice on tap
4. A large shower
5. Room for 5 guests to stay, complete with a large dining table
6. Indoor-outdoor living, with a front deck and private fire pit
7. A TV double the size of the average hotel that connects to your streaming services
8. The fresh scents of only natural cleaning products
9. Free EV charging
10. Free washer & dryer
11. A personally researched and curated Guest Guide with recommendations
What you’ll avoid by choosing our cottage instead of a hotel:
1. The sound of slamming doors and guests in adjoining rooms (our personal pet peeve)
2. Elevators
3. No indoor-outdoor living
4. No privacy during meals
5. A college-dorm-sized frig, if any
6. Paying for movies, laundry, ice, bottled water, and every meal out
Breakfast that tastes like plastic (the standard “free breakfast” of processed foods and not-so-great coffee that's standard hotel fare)
7. Cleaning that leaves behind Clorox and other toxic chemicals along with their smells
8. Other guests or residents in shared areas
9. Having to find a charging station (for EV owners)
The math for a 2-night stay for 4 guests over the weekend during peak season (May–Aug):
$401 x 2 nights $802.00 ($281 per night for 2 guest, 2 nights = $562. Two additional guests at $60 per night each x 2 nights = $240)
AirBnB guest fee $113.22

—What’s Nearby?—
Walking distance not only to the lake but to all of the attractions on the strip, wineries, and restaurants as well as Geneva Park. Just a 10-minute drive to Geneva State Park Beach, marina, and hiking trails (see photos and captions as to where they were taken).
In a 1 BLOCK WALK, you’ll find:
• Lakeside Market for quick food, snacks, drinks, ice, and deli
Carrying everything from s'mores ingredients to sunscreen, a big selection of beverages, including beer and wine, a deli making fresh breakfast and lunch sandwiches, staples like eggs and butter and a gift shop with GOTL T-shirts and sweat shirts plus locally-made jewelry and body care products.
• Two bar/restaurants
• Fast food on the Strip
Casual dining a bit longer walk up the Strip:
• The small and humble but wonderful Italian restaurant, Piero’s Pasta House
• Firehouse winery and restaurant
Finer dining a short drive to end of strip:
• Crosswinds Grille
• The Lodge Hotel Bar & Restaurant
Contemporary/“Foodie” dining (truffle fries, wood-fire pizza and such)
• Drive 15 minutes to Ashtabula Harbor’s Bridge Street for 4 excellent restaurants: Nights & Weekends, Halcyon, Bascule Bridge, and Briquettes Smokehouse.
Antiquing at Fat Sally's: 2 large floors of curiosities and dozens of vendors just a 10-minute drive from the cottage. In the summer, you can walk to antique stores right on the Strip.
Property Tax $64.16
TOTAL $979.38
= Cost per guest: $122.42 per night
