About this listing
Beatifully restored south facing village house in the south of France Sleepy village with sheep rabbits, forest and beautiful views. near Rennes le Chateau in French Cathar country. Beautiful walks start at the door.
The house has two double bedrooms. There is a trundle bed in the living room which can be a single or a double when it is not simply made up as a day bed. Three WC's two bathrooms including walk in shower bathroom, double sinks.
The kitchen has a granite work top top and a spacious fridge, It is very well equipped combining modernity with traditional materials.
The house is very well insulated and cool in the summer and very comfortable in the winter with oil central heating. There is also a laundry.
The village is perched on a hill with wondrous views. There is a daily bread van and only 10 minutes drive away are two market towns and many other attractions. The area is known for its massive diversity of plant and wildlife species, walking tracks, Roman and medieval ruins. Particularly famous for Cathar castles and recently the mystery of Rennes le chateau. Also close to skiing and the Mediterranean sea. Carcassonne, Toulouse, Lourdes and Carcassonne are all typical day trips
Unless keen cyclists a motor is almost obligatory.
The house is beautifully finished and Visitors are invited to use the chateau garden and its impressive range of aromatic herbs.
Guests use the laundry which has a tumble drier, the chateau terrace and herb garden, the sun trap pedaestrian ruelle outside the front door, a barbecue and table a stone`s throw away on the west side of the chateau.
Interaction with Guests
We live very nearby and so unless exceptionally we are away we see a lot of our guests
Beautiful scenery, great food, friendly people and so many interesting things to do and see nearby
Not from the village itself. 7 miles away in Quillan yes. Bikes are available for hire.
The SNCF trains arrive from Carcassonne to Esperaza and to Quillan.
Other Things to Note
We have a very well stocked herb garden and love to share our herbs with the guests. The chateau has an association and there are sometimes very good concerts on in the summer evenings or afternoons.
The house is ideal for groups, families or individuals seeking peace and quiet. Parking is easily available and two market towns are within in a reasonable bike ride but there is only a bread van that comes to the village once a day.
The house is very well equipped. Linen is not provided but is available for 10 Euros per stay per guest. If you wish to have the house completely cleaned for you upon departure there is an optional cleaning service provided for 30 Euros otherwise the Maison d'Eglise is well equipped for guests to give the house a little clean before their departure.
We stayed at Sophie's lovely house in Saint Ferriol for a long weekend and it was fantastic.
The house is fully conditioned, you feel like being home and the decoration is cozy and beautiful.
We will come back for sure, as we love the Cathar zone and Sophie's place is located close to the main spots, like Rennes-le-Chateaux or Alet les Bains.
Sophie is extremely helpful and kind. She made us feel like being home since the first moment and she did everything she was able to do to help us.
Thanks a lot, Sophie and see you soon!
Loved the place! quiet and peaceful. Beautiful views and great walks. The towns nearby are perfect for all shopping and meals. the kitchen is beautifully appointed as is the sitting room.
Can't recommend it high enough!
The reservation was canceled 86 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Our stay in the mountains was wonderful, especially when we had been visiting cities the first few days. We booked last minute and Sophie responded to our request straight away. Upon arrival we immediately asked to book another night as we didn't think we would find somewhere as lovely and tastefully renovated afterward. Sophie had prepared a handy list of go to places which became our itinerary for the next 3 days. The address was incorrect on the site and on the confirmation so just double check that before setting off to check in. Otherwise..fab! A super unique and truly French stay xx
