The Space

Hilltop Bedroom with Standard Bed and chest of drawers, in my barn. The room is 10 x 12 and the bathroom is shared in the house and the room has a skylight in the ceiling,

Glen Ellen hilltop with views and stone paths on the organic 10 acre property with views of the San Pablo Bay. Patio and viewing platform with daffodils covering the hillsides in February and March, peones blooming in May and June and and roses blooming thriugh December. Olives are harvested in late fall. Wine events and tastings thoughtout the summer and fall in Sonoma and in the Sonoma Valley. Private and beautiful surroundings.

The downtown of Glen Ellen has several restaurants and an excellent market with good coffee drinks as well. It is one and one half miles from my home. Sonoma and Santa Rosa are both about 25 minutes away and Kenwood is 10 minutes with more restaurants and stores.

If you are interested in walking, my paths will provide nice up and down opportunities as will my road up and down the hill.

Visitors have described my setting as "A Little Bit of Heaven," and I agree!

I am cosmopolitain and well travelled and love sharing my home and my extraordinary site with with visitors.

  • What a lovely place to stay--up on a Sonoma Valley ridge amidst oaks and manzanita, with views, walking paths and quiet. For feeling far away, this spot is also conveniently located near the little town of Glen Ellen and the surrounding wineries.

  • Marde was a great host- helpful and accommodating. The room is small but cozy, and the hilltop location is gorgeous, green, filled with flowers, and there are a number of lovely decks on the property if you'd like to relax in quiet and seclusion. The bathroom was clean and well appointed, but is a few steps away from the bedroom, and shared, so take note if you're the type who requires a private bathroom. Overall I'd highly recommend Marde's quiet hilltop bedroom for a wonderful wine country visit.

  • An amazing place! Beautiful scenery and comfortable bed. Thank you for the cute picnic basket and wine glasses that were very appropriate. Parking was easy. Coffee and croissants were provided in the morning and we had light use of the kitchen. Just a warning that the room is quite small ( we had a lot of luggage) and you have to walk outside to use the bathroom! There's no direct access to the house, and it's a little drive to the town, but if you just want a beautiful view and a garden to sit and drink your coffee / wine then enjoy!

  • Marde was a great host. She was very knowledgeable about the area and was warm and welcoming. We had everything we needed for a night in the valley of the moon.

  • Marde has a beautiful hilltop location in Glen Ellen. It is absolutely quiet! The room in the barn is about 15 steps from the bathroom in the house and the path is well-lit. The room is small but the bed is nice and firm and the pillows are excellent. This lodging is probably best in dry weather as we didn't notice any indoor places to sit and read or relax, but in dry weather Marde's deck is beautiful with a very comfortable outdoor couch and chairs. There are paths to take to enjoy the surroundings which are really gorgeous. As all other guests have said, Marde was very responsive, very kind, and knows what is going on in the lovely town of Glen Ellen. We enjoyed our stay!

  • Just what we wanted, a bunk at good price on a busy weekend. We didn't care about most other amenities and I don't even know what was offered. We got there late, left early, all we wanted.

  • Marde is a wonderful host, and her property is absolutely gorgeous! The views from her back porch are amazing, and I will be sure to stay here again when I'm back in wine country. Thank you Marde for your gracious hospitality!

About
I moved to Glen Ellen, California, from Palo Alto in 2000 where I had lived earlier after graduating from Stanford University. I have three grown children and am the grandmother of two girls. Economics and Photography are the subjects I studied primarily, and now I live on a farm growing and distributing bulbs, tulips, daffodils, peonies etc. I am an avid traveler. I have been all over the world, primarily engaging in landscape photography and I have grown weary of hotels. I am a traveling photographer, and my latest trips were a month in Brazil in 2010 and again in 2011 and a month in Turkey in 2012. It was in Turkey where I discovered the joys of Air BNB and listed my home on the site from Istanbul! Two weeks after I returned from Turkey, I activated my listings. I have been renting my rooms for 2 months now and have not had a weekend without guests since I began. I think you will enjoy the stay, and I look forward to meeting you! I am cosmopolitain and well travelled and I love sharing my home and my extraordinary site with with visitors.
