A Taste of Traditional Japan, in a Truly Extraordinary Setting. No Adjacent Homes...Surrounded by Trees...Ocean View. Separate 4-Bedroom Guesthouse Available.

The Space

Our hand-crafted lodge offers the serene beauty of old Japan, with all the comforts of modern life.

Originally custom-built for the chief physician of a national hospital, our inn is nestled in thick forest, overlooking a remarkably pristine coastline near the mouth of Tokyo Bay. There are no adjacent homes...just lush greenery and views of blue ocean. A setting like this in Japan, just 15km from Zushi and an hour from the center of the world's largest city, is simply extraordinary.

The main building offers five sleeping rooms, each of which accommodates from one to six people with luxurious futons. On Saturday and Sunday mornings, we offer a Western B&B plan, with a full breakfast -- including real drip-brewed coffee -- for just 1,000 yen. There are a few nice restaurants and bars within walking distance, and scores within easy taxi/bus range. With prior arrangements, you can order a full BBQ set-up in the garden.

The main building is augmented by a separate four-bedroom guesthouse with a separate kitchen and bath, which can be rented exclusively by families or groups.

Ask about lower rates for long-term guests.

Please note: All three listings for "Magical Inn" are the same property. AirBnB cannot accommodate multiple rooms, so we must multiple listings. If this calendar says "unavailable" for your preferred dates, please see the alternate listings to book open rooms:

The inn's expansive garden regularly hosts parties, day and evening, with guests enjoying clear skies and stars while sitting on hand-made wooden benches around a fire.

One of the nicest beaches in the Kanto region lies 300 meters below the inn. Miles of both rocky and sandy shoreline lead to a legendary windsurfing spot -- home to Japan's national champions -- just a few minutes down the road. This area is also great for paddleboards and kayaks.

Truly Tolkien forest hiking trails surround us, and will take you to the famous Kurihama botanical garden at the top of the mountain.

Most guests travel here from Tokyo, via Shinagawa Station (or Shibuya Station, transferring at Yokohama). It takes roughly 55 minutes to arrive at the local stop, Keikyu-Kurihama Station. From there it's 5 minutes to our place via taxi, or 15 minutes via bus and a 200-meter stroll.

Please note that this is a Japanese-style inn, offering private sleeping rooms, a large shared bathroom with a panoramic view of the ocean, and communal dining and socializing areas.

The main building of the inn has three rooms suitable for singles or couples. On the first floor...

The Yellow Room: six-mat size, toilet and sink en suite.

The Green Room: six-mat size, with sink, shared toilet.

The Blue Room: eight-mat size, shared toilet.

Upstairs, there are two spaces suitable for larger groups...

The Tatami Room: 10.5 mats, shared toilet.

The Loft: 10-mat size, shared toilet.

The two-story guesthouse is separate from the main building, and is ideal for families or guests who prefer more privacy. It offers two large tatami rooms, plus two Western-style rooms, along with a kitchen, a large Japanese bathroom, and two toilets. The guesthouse also features a separate garden with more relaxing views of forest and sea.

Your on-site hosts are the well-traveled Jude Brand, originally from Oz, and "Mr. G," a bilingual Japanese gent. Please reserve three or more days in advance, so we have time to talk with you and prepare for a perfect stay.

Our inn tends to attract creative personalities from around the globe, and folks with many decades of travel experience tell us that there is no better retreat in Japan. You may not want to return to "civilization."

Thank you, Kaori! For those who don't read Japanese, here's the review of "Magical Inn--Tokyo Beach & Forest" in English:

We reserved this place to have a company retreat. We easily fit 10 people in the living room. It was such a quiet place, we could truly focus on our discussions.

And we could walk to the beach--so refreshing.... Wonderful place. We would like to come back again.

  • I came to get a bit of space before heading off to Nara and more of the cityscapes of Japan, this was the right choice.

I had a few logistical issues that were sorted out easily by the team, so much so that I had the whole place to myself. Just what I needed.

Jude, my on the ground host was great, gave me some good tips on the sights. I enjoyed a great couple of walks into Kurihama along the coast road, took about an hour. A great mix of ocean and town views.

Jude told me on a clear day you get great views of Chiba on the other side of the bay. Unfortunately I missed out due the uncommon rain during my stay. (She lent me an umbrella for my stay, very useful as I got caught walking in the rain a few times.)

If you want a quiet out of the way place to relax, set in the very green bush, then this is a great place to stay.

    I recommend it.

  • We had a lovely time staying in Kurihama. The Inn is not far from the sea (but it's more sea for looking at than a beach to walk along). We had breakfasts each morning which were delicious, and getting to know the hosts was lovely.

Our room was quite small, and only suitable for sleeping in (rather than reading etc.), however it was very warm during our winter stay!

For people who are looking to get away for some time alone, please make sure you know which space you are booking. While we had a lovely time, the bathroom and sitting areas are all shared areas in the house.

We will definitely go back again.

This nice review is for Magical Tokyo Inn -- Beach & Forest. (Sometimes it can be tough to tell which AirBnB review is for which property!)
