You'll be sharing the apartment with me and I'm very accustomed to having people stay as I've been hosting roommates for 20 years. You'll have your privacy and your built in guide to help you sort out logistics of your visit should you need any direction. I also offer a bicycle for you to get around should you choose to use it. Vancouver is made for cycling.
There is a bus stop about 40 paces from the front door of the building and the Translink (bus) system is very good.
Check in and Check out times are somewhat flexible and may be discussed.
Guests will have access to the living room, dining area, kitchen and their own private bathroom & bedroom.
Interaction with Guests
Good mornings and the odd cup of tea and a chat now and then. I will be present for your stay unless I happen to go out of town to visit someone which I've often done in the past.
The West End is a friendly neighbourhood with a very eclectic mix of people. There is lots of shopping, coffee shops and restaurants very nearby. Movie theaters, galleries and retail stores are about a 15 minute walk from here.
There is a bus stop just a 1/4 block from the front door. Granville Island (it has a big public market and art school, theater and restaurants) is a 10 minute walk and a short "boom boat" ride away. There are beaches 10 minutes walk either west or south of here. I have a bicycle (with a helmet) available to you at no charge too.
Please ask if you would like to use the land line.
Lock front door when coming and going.
Take care of the bicycle when you are using it - you are responsible for it as if it is your own. Replacement value is approximately $400
Hold on to your set of keys. Replacement value is $200
Feel free to have guests over for visits but no sleep overs please without discussing it with me.
Please clean up after yourself when using the kitchen.
First thing's first: this is an awesome space. It's a penthouse apartment on the top (12th) floor of a building in a great neighborhood. The apartment faces English Bay and Kitsilano (million dollar view). Stand out on the patio and you can look north toward downtown.
We later learned that Jeanie was actually going to be out of town the week we're were there. I was offered the "chore" of watering her plants on the patio. This was really a great way to start the day (along with a cup of coffee). While Jeanie was gone, she basically left the entire apartment to us, as well as the use of her computer and TV. This is the kind of hospitality that made us feel not only like we belonged in the apartment, but in the neighborhood as well.
As far as location goes, Jeanie's place is pretty perfect. Having never been to Vancouver before, I was a littler concerned that places of interest would be a little distant. Vancouver is a completely walkable city and Jeanie's home is convenience to just about everything: downtown, English Bay, Stanley Park. The basics like a large grocery store, a decent liquor store, and a drug store are a block away. Also important, English Bay Bicycle Rentals is two blocks away.
Later, while we were in Victoria, we got to meet Jeanie for breakfast. She is a completely lovely and lively woman who was happy to be our host. Having the entire space to ourselves was great but if Jeanie is home while you're visiting, you'll be hard pressed to find a more caring host during your stay.
What can I say other than….you humble me!
It was a great pleasure to meet you and Tina in Victoria and get to know you both a little. I was surprised when we parted ways and I discovered we had been visiting for some time. I hope to see you again some day.
Thank you for choosing my home for your stay and for watering my garden - even in my absence it was a pleasure having you.
Jeanie was very welcoming and helpful. The apartment is in a fantastic location - blocks from English Bay, plenty of restaurants and shops. Her rooftop patio is a wonderful place to enjoy a cool drink at the end of a day along the seawall. Comfy bed and pillows.
I was in Vancouver for a conference at the convention center and had a perfectly wonderful stay. The room was awesome, the apartment is gorgeous with an amazing view, the location is super convenient, and best of all Jeanie was so kind and welcoming. It was a very bright spot in the middle of a bit of an exhausting work trip.
Staying with Jeanie was absolutely delightful.
You are in the company of a local resident who knows all the ins and outs of Vancouver, and who is happy to share them with you.
I loved our chats over tea looking out over the wonderful view from the balcony, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay again, if I am ever back in this wonderful city.
Well, I certainly struck gold when I booked to stay in Vancouver with Jeanie. Her apartment is delightful and in a perfect location, with outstanding views. The bed is extremely comfortable and has been raised so that you can lie there and appreciate the stunning scenery of the West End. Sitting on the patio with a cup of tea and looking out is another delight.
Jeanie herself is a very kind, generous and interesting lady. She makes you feel at home right from the start and goes the extra mile to ensure that your stay is excellent.
I had a great time and wish I was back there right now!! Thanks Jeanie.
And the academy award goes to (music and drumroll) Jeanie Lamb! West End Penthouse! All we can say, is that we give a standing ovation to our host, Jeanie, in Vancouver! She is amazing--upbeat, positive, gracious, informative, generous, fun! Jeanie helped make our time in Vancouver glorious! She loves her city, Vancouver, and she knew how to show us its beauty and wonder.
We had a number of issues--buying a tent for our next week of camping, getting a haircut, learning how to take the ferry--Jeanie helped us with everything, including giving us maps and directions. She is a traveler's delight problem solver!
Jeanie has a lovely home. There is wonderful modern art all over the walls! The room is cozy with lots of storage areas. The condo is on the very top floor, and it has a magnificent, large patio from which one can see the whole city and English Bay. But the best is that Jeanie says "My home is your home!" We had access to the lovely patio, deck, living room, kitchen (even space for our food) and our own private bathroom.
But the best was that Jeannie engaged with us and we had very depthful conversations. This is what is great about airbnb. We were able to really meet with a personable and intelligent Canadian, learn more about this beautiful country, and exchange points of view.
We felt very lucky to have found this listing, and very blessed to have met Jeanie. She is a gifted and generous host, and hopefully, a new friend. Thank you, Jeanie!
Thank you so much for my academy award. Now that I've lassoed my ego and have my feet back on the ground, I must say I am humbled by your very kind and generous remarks. I loved having you both here - our conversations, laughter and assisting you to prepare for your camping trip. I look forward to seeing you again soon my friends.
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at Jeanie's. Not only was she very sweet and nice to talk to, but she also helped us by arranging a temporary parking permit so that we could park our car and not have to worry about it. We were really surprised when the next morning we woke up and Jeanie left fruit, juice, and yogurt in the fridge for us. Jeanie was interested in our plans, but was in no way overbearing or intrusive. We had space when we wanted it and conversations when we wanted them.
The view of English bay from our room was a real treat and the beach and Stanley Park were short walks away. Jeanie's place is next to a grocery store, a block from a liquor store, and only a few blocks from great restaurant and night life in Davie Village. The apartment building is easy to find if you're unfamiliar with Vancouver and Jeanie buzzed us up and met us at the door which made getting into our room very easy. In sum, I'd totally recommend Jeanie's West End Penthouse to a friend who is visiting Vancouver.
About the Host, Jeanie
I am an original Vancouverite. I love the city of Vancouver and my home. I've been renting my spare room with its own private bathroom for years. I began using the Airbnb service in August 2011. I enjoy hosting and will be as helpful as I can if you have questions about the city. I spent a number of years working in the B.C. film, TV, commercial and photography business and am currently working occasionally as a personal assistant.
One motto I repeatedly say to myself is "keep it simple" and that's the way I attempt to live my life.
See you soon I hope.
