The Space

Recently remodeled, fully furnished and beautifully decorated cottage has large flat screen TV, blue ray player, sony player for iPod or iPad to listen to your favorite music, fenced yard, easy bike or scooter ride to quaint downtown Bluffton's art galleries and restaurants, two bikes are available for your use to cruise the back roads and explore the area, great walking route along the beautiful May River, swimming beach on the May River less than 5 minute walk, what more could you ask for?!!

We are conveniently located 5 minutes from downtown Bluffton, less than 30 minutes to the beautiful beaches of Hilton Head Island, about 30 minutes to historic downtown Beaufort, and about 45 minutes to historic downtown Savannah. Hilton Head has a new zip line for adventurous visitors, in addition to parasailing, kayak, and jet ski rentals, and dolphin watching tours -- plenty to do nearby!

Check out Southern Living articles about the Lowcountry and in particular there is one you can search for about a fun road trip up the SC coast from here to Charleston.

It says: "About 25 miles off U.S. 17 is the small town of Bluffton, South Carolina. Stop by and visit the studio of potter Jacob Preston, whose hand-thrown plates, mugs, and framed tiles ($25 and up) are inspired by the colors of the nearby countryside ((website hidden)). If he's not there, don't worry—he leaves his studio open and operates on the honor system. Just leave your payment on the cashier table on your way out."

Also, check out the website for Bluffton, which has an event calendar and other information about the Town.

It has a list of events, including the Farmer's Market on Calhoun Street every Thursday afternoon, and it says this about Bluffton:

"Located just across the bridge from Hilton Head Island, Bluffton is a quaint, charming town. Antebellum homes, historic churches and unique shops line the moss-shaded streets of Bluffton's downtown historic district, offering a taste of Lowcountry living. Bluffton, a town whose name refers to its location atop a scenic bluff along the May River, also is home to a number of award-winning restaurants, accomodations and popular shopping centers developed along the Hwy. 278 corridor which connects Bluffton and Hilton Head Island. Today's Bluffton is an ideal place to live or visit, with the Atlantic Ocean minutes away and the many recreational opportunities the inland waterways offer, it is easy to see why Bluffton is the fastest growing area in South Carolina.
* Weather – Bluffton's daily average high in July is 89 degrees, perfect for the beach, golf, boating or just relaxing in the beautiful natural surroundings."

Hilton Head is 20 minutes away, and this is one event happening this summer, among many:

HarbourFest at Shelter Cove Harbour features live entertainment nightly, plus unforgettable food, arts and crafts, Tuesday night fireworks and a flurry of fun activities. Family friendly entertainer, Shannon Tanner performs Mon.-Fri., with shows at 6:30 and 8 p.m. Cappy the Clown, and many other activities and entertainers will be on hand to enjoy as well. Bring the whole family to this exciting, kid-friendly festival! Plenty of free parking. Admission is free. Food, beverages and concessions sold separately. Located mid-island at mile marker 8, across from Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort.

  • I hesitate to tell everyone about this gem of a rental since we want to be able to come back frequently. The Qualeys were the perfect hosts; providing recommendations as well as a few sweet treats they brought us! The location is great; very close to Old Town but yet tucked away and quiet. The house was fully stocked with everything you'd need and immaculately clean. Decorations and furnishings were perfect; the pictures on Airbnb don't do it justice. Great place at a great price.

  • Jana and Jack's comfy cottage was luxurious and spotless. Bluffton was definitely worth a visit and it was a great location from which to visit both Beaufort and Savannah. Jana and Jack were gracious and attentive hosts and we highly recommend their cottage for a stay whether long or short.

  • Our stay with three persons in Bluffton was extremely nice because of the exraordinary quality of the appartment and the very nice ownwers Jana and Jack. We were allways in excellent care, felt secure and comfy. So we can recommend this place to anybody who likes to have a charming, highly comfortable, quiet place in the beautiful area.

  • Jack and Jana were wonderful hosts! They were very accommodating with our comings and goings, gave us space and privacy, and shared helpful tips about the area and things to do while in Bluffton.

The guest house was wonderful! It was so well appointed that we felt like we could relax and be "at home" the minute we walked in the door. The pictures simply do not do it justice.

We traveled to Bluffton on a whim, just looking for a tucked-out-of-the-way place within easy driving distance of Savannah. We loved the little town and Quail's Nest Cottage so much that we will probably return specifically to visit Bluffton. And when/if we do, we will definitely want to stay here again!

Thank you, Jack and Jana, for a wonderful experience. The only thing wrong with our visit was that it was too short!

  • The Comfy Cottage was indeed comfy. It was well equipped, very comfortable with a lot of little touches that made our visit that much better. I hope to stay there every time I come to the Bluffton Area

  • The cottage is lovely. The images are accurate. The cottage is very clean, has 2 bedrooms and one bath with a well stocked kitchen and large living room. The cottage is behind the owners house. It is a 5 minute drive to old Bluffton which is a lovely old town. We ate in 2 of the restaurants, The Cottage and the Vineyard 55. I especially liked the Cottage. There are nice shops to browse with local artist paintings and crafts displayed. Beaufort is about 30 minute drive away, Hilton Head is about 15 minute drive and Savannah about 1 hour drive away. There are public beaches in Hilton Head if you want to go to the Ocean. You can bike ride in Hilton Head on the main drives however in Bluffton there are no shoulders on the road so you will need to ride your bike on the rather busy road to Old Bluffton.
Make sure you enjoy the local seafood.

  • We had such a great time staying at Jana & Jack's place in Bluffton. Jack greeted us as soon as we got there and was very hospitable in making sure that we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The place is extremely clean, cozy, and decorated beautifully. They really pay attention to details that give the place a great "home away from home" feel to it, like providing board games for the kids, plenty of kitchen amenities, and even local maps and travel guides. I highly recommend staying here and spending some time in Bluffton, a small and beautiful place that is often overlooked when visiting Hilton Head. And try to check out the Peanut Festival in August if you have a chance, was a lot of fun!:)

  • What a beautiful home! We truly enjoyed our three nights in Quail's Nest. Immaculate rooms, beautifully decorated, comfy beds. Jack was the picture of Southern hospitality. We will definitely spread the word to family and friends who may visit the area, and we hope to return next summer!

  • This place is a gem in Bluffton! Jack and Jana were friendly and helpful -Jack stopped by to provide good local area info. The actual cottage is an amazing find, far beyond what the pictures portray. It is beautifully set up - with a modern kitchen and every appliance you can think of. The sheets, towels and general quality of everything was great. It is very well maintained and each detail has been thought out. We were also pleasantly surprised by the homemade banana bread that welcomed us :) In terms of location, it is very close to Calhoun rd's shops and restaurants. (Try cottage for a meal) Really enjoyed staying here and would highly recommend this place.

We have lived in the Hilton Head Island area since 1982 and have 2 children, Megan is 27 and is moving to Burlington, VT, next week with her husband John, and "Little Jack" is 17 and attends boarding school in Asheville, NC, where he is living for the summer, so we are "empty nesters." We bought this property and moved in at the end of March, 2012, and we have been painting and sprucing up the yard since then....getting ready for our first AirBnB guests! Having lived here for 30 years, we can answer any questions you have about this area and can give you recommendations of places to go, where to eat, and things to do. We have put together a list of our favorite restaurants for you with maps. Jack is originally from Charleston, SC, and Jana is from the Philadelphia area.
