Check out Southern Living articles about the Lowcountry and in particular there is one you can search for about a fun road trip up the SC coast from here to Charleston.
It says: "About 25 miles off U.S. 17 is the small town of Bluffton, South Carolina. Stop by and visit the studio of potter Jacob Preston, whose hand-thrown plates, mugs, and framed tiles ($25 and up) are inspired by the colors of the nearby countryside ((website hidden)). If he's not there, don't worry—he leaves his studio open and operates on the honor system. Just leave your payment on the cashier table on your way out."
Also, check out the website for Bluffton, which has an event calendar and other information about the Town.
It has a list of events, including the Farmer's Market on Calhoun Street every Thursday afternoon, and it says this about Bluffton:
"Located just across the bridge from Hilton Head Island, Bluffton is a quaint, charming town. Antebellum homes, historic churches and unique shops line the moss-shaded streets of Bluffton's downtown historic district, offering a taste of Lowcountry living. Bluffton, a town whose name refers to its location atop a scenic bluff along the May River, also is home to a number of award-winning restaurants, accomodations and popular shopping centers developed along the Hwy. 278 corridor which connects Bluffton and Hilton Head Island. Today's Bluffton is an ideal place to live or visit, with the Atlantic Ocean minutes away and the many recreational opportunities the inland waterways offer, it is easy to see why Bluffton is the fastest growing area in South Carolina.
* Weather – Bluffton's daily average high in July is 89 degrees, perfect for the beach, golf, boating or just relaxing in the beautiful natural surroundings."
Hilton Head is 20 minutes away, and this is one event happening this summer, among many:
HarbourFest at Shelter Cove Harbour features live entertainment nightly, plus unforgettable food, arts and crafts, Tuesday night fireworks and a flurry of fun activities. Family friendly entertainer, Shannon Tanner performs Mon.-Fri., with shows at 6:30 and 8 p.m. Cappy the Clown, and many other activities and entertainers will be on hand to enjoy as well. Bring the whole family to this exciting, kid-friendly festival! Plenty of free parking. Admission is free. Food, beverages and concessions sold separately. Located mid-island at mile marker 8, across from Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort.
Other Things to Note
Limit of 4 guests in the guest cottage.
No Pets Allowed.
We live in the main house....my wife (Jana) and I and our two bichons (Duke and Camper). We ask that you close the gate when you park in the driveway so the dogs don't wander off. If the gate is closed when you return to the Guest House, there is a strong possibility that the dogs are roaming about the property. Please proceed with caution or park outside the gate until you confirm that the dogs are in the house. Other than that, the main rule is no smoking, and that rule applies to the entire property....no smoking inside or outside the cottage is allowed.

Thank you Jack and Jana for a fantastic time in your guest home. Words can't describe how charming your home is and comfy and welcome you made us feel over the past weekend. We love Bluffton and now we feel that we have a wonderful place to stay when we come back to visit and explore the Bluffton communities. We are looking forward to relocating to the greater HHI/Bluffton area in the next year to 18 months. You were so helpful in directing us to explore many options that we weren't aware of until last week. Your hospitality was very much appreciated!
Jack and Jana's Comfy Cottage is more than 'comfy'! Tucked away in a dense copse of trees near the May River, you'll discover some of the best sleep available in the Bluffton/Hilton Head area.
The cottage is decorated beautifully and all amenities needed for an extended stay are available.
Jack, Jana, Duke, and Camper make you feel more than welcome. Jack will humble you at a game of ping pong if you're up for it too.
What a fabulous weekend we had in Bluffton!
We were travelling with another couple and the funky little cottage felt like home immediately. Home made banana bread and essentials in the fridge were so very thoughtful.
Communication before arrival was great - we were told details of how to find this jewel and directions were spot on.
Our host was a wealth of information with options for shopping/ eating/ visiting. We took all suggestions and none disappointed.
Inside of the house was decorated beautifully and we were inspired to make some local purchases to take those memories home with us.
The beds were so comfy and even when it poured rain overnight, we were snuggled up safely in those beds that felt like a big hug :-)
Thank you for your wonderful Southern hospitality.
Can not wait to visit again!
Our stay this past week-end was so relaxing. The cottage is so well decorated and the kitchen has everything one would need from fresh coffee, fresh baked banana bread, orange juice and creamer in the refrigerator. It was my husband's birthday, and when we checked in Jana and Jack had a bottle of champagne chilling. The cottage is secluded and quiet. We spent the day out and about visiting Beaufort and exploring downtown Bluffton; but it was so nice to come back to such a homey and quaint cottage. I would recommend this lovely cottage to anyone planning on visiting the Bluffton, Savannah or Hilton Head communities. Jana and Jack, thank you for sharing your beautiful home away from home. We hope to visit again.
Beautiful, comfortable, over the top hospitality, pictures don't do it justice!
What a magical cottage! Just driving down the lane lined with oaks dripping in Spanish moss, you know you have landed in a special sanctuary. The lush landscaping, the fresh and comfortable interior, fully-stocked kitchen, and excellent quality bedding all make this an over-the-top place to stay. The location is ideal for nature walks, or biking into Old Town Bluffton for shopping or a delicious meal, or driving over to Hilton Head. I look forward to returning and spending more time!
Marvelous experience and marvelous hosts!
The description and photos of the cottage are spot on. We enjoyed our quick visit and found our hosts (the homeowners) to be kind and helpful. The cottage amenities were comfortable (very soft beds), clean (the whole cottage smelled so good) and provided everything needed plus extras like the homemade bread! The landscaping was beautiful around the cottage and main house and the location was ideal for us as we were visiting family in Bluffton. Would definitely recommend this cottage and hope to return.
We have lived in the Hilton Head Island area since 1982 and have 2 children, Megan is 30 and lives in Burlington, VT, with her husband John, and "Little Jack" is 20 and attends the College of Charleston, so we are "empty nesters." We bought this property and moved in at the end of March, 2012, and we have been painting and sprucing up the yard since then....getting ready for our AirBnB guests! Having lived here for 30 years, we can answer any questions you have about this area and can give you recommendations of places to go, where to eat, and things to do. We have put together a list of our favorite restaurants for you with maps. Jack is originally from Charleston, SC, and Jana was born in the suburbs of Philadelphia.
