Ciutat Vella ( meaning in English "Old City") is a district of Barcelona, numbered District 1. The name means "old city" in Catalan and refers to the oldest neighborhoods in the city of Barcelona, Spain. Ciutat Vella is nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the neighborhood called l'Eixample (the Extension.). It is considered as the centre of the city; the Plaça Catalunya is one of the most popular meeting points in all of Catalonia.
There are four administrative neighborhoods (some of them include former or traditional neighborhoods):
Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera:
Running down the center of the Ciutat Vella (dividing the Raval and Barri Gòtic) is the boulevard La Rambla . La Rambla stretches from Plaça Catalunya to the Mediterranean Sea and, since the 1990s, now extends out over the sea into one of Barcelona's newest centers of entertainment, Maremagnum. El Mercat de Sant Josep (more commonly known as La Boqueria) and Gran Teatre del Liceu (the Opera House) are both located here. La Rambla is among the most frequently travelled streets by pedestrians in Barcelona.
At the bottom, there is the Museu Marítim (naval museum), which chronicles the history of life on the Mediterranean, including a full-scale model of a galley.
Is the centre of the old city of Barcelona. It stretches from La Rambla to Via Laietana, and from the Mediterranean seafront to Ronda de Sant Pere.
Despite several changes undergone in the 19th and early 20th century, many of the buildings date from Medieval times, some from as far back as the Roman settlement of Barcelona. Remains of the squared Roman Wall can be seen around Tapineria and Sots-Tinent Navarro to the north, Avinguda de la Catedral and Plaça Nova to the west and Carrer de la Palla to the south. El Call, the medieval Jewish quarter, is located within this area too.
The Barri Gòtic retains a labyrinthine street plan, with many small streets opening out into squares. Most of the quarter is closed to regular traffic although open to service vehicles and taxis.

Your's truly IOANA
There are no house rules, just common sense rules like locking the door and keeping quiet down the stairs!
Ioana was a great host. She met us right outside her place and explained EVERYTHING to do in Barcelona. The location of her place was central to everything. We loved it and would stay there again!
Ioana's apartment was fantastic! She has so much information about things nearby and was ready to give us individual attention on planning our time in Barcelona. The apt was clean and well equipped, and we loved the neighborhood. Highly recommended.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for three nights and the apartment was lovely. She explained the area and the local sights and the apartment was clean and well equipped. I am a tall woman and my boyfriend is over 6 feet and we were a little too tall for the bed, our feel dangled off, but other than the size of the bed, we had the most fantastic time. Would recommend her place to anyone. The location is A1...she's situated in the best part of town.
The stay at ioana's place was really nice. The apartment is as described and ioana is very friendly! I recommend it without any hesitation. Thank you ioana :-)
In what a great location the apartment of Elena is located! We, three girls, just needed a place to stay for one night before we travelled up north and even on a Monday el Born is vivid as ever. If you want a place where you can easily enjoy the real barcelona, this is it. Only, don't bring big or heavy suitcases. It took us some power, sweat and muscles to bring the 20 kilos up the 4 floors with many small stairs. Furthermore, the apartment was clean and silent, small but perfect for us. Thank you Elena for the great communication and for having us!
