About This Listing
Guests rave about our warm, friendly home and the beautiful neighborhood and back yard. We are located in a quiet close suburb of one of the greatest cities around, just 15 minute walk to the train, and 20 minute to center city Philadelphia.
Fun and warm couple love to host travelers in their unique home in the north Philly suburbs. Private safe wooded neighborhood. You will have a private room with either a King, Queen or twin sized bed and a bath shared with other guests, if any. Enjoy a cozy fire in the cool weather, and our azalea filled patio in the spring and summer.
As we mature as airbnb hosts, we find that we are best suited for longer term guests (2 weeks +). This is a perfect place to stay for doing medical rotations, or training at Salus, or doing an internship, or to stay while you find a more permanent home to buy or rent.
If we don't have longer term guests, we welcome overnight guests.
You are welcome to use the kitchen and laundry facilities. We stock healthy, delicious fruit, yogurt, coffees, teas, breads and cereals for you to enjoy before you set out on your Philly adventures.
This is an active home. Though the guest area is private, the public areas are where we live, eat and play. We have a lot of guests and you are likely to walk in on a people playing music and waltzing in the kitchen, especially when our daughter and her friends are here. If you are looking for a pristine hotel-like environment, this is not the place for you. It's clean, but lived in.
We have a sweet Cavalier Spaniel and 2 cats. Your well behaved pet is welcome, but check with us first. If your pet doesn't get along in the house, they will stay in your room.
Leave your car with us and take a quick 20 minute train ride to the heart of the city. We are also on a direct train route to the airport ( 50 minutes). One hour drive to Amish country, or to the wineries and antique shops of New Hope.
Guests have access to the living room, dining room and kitchen as well as the outdoor patio for relaxing in nice weather. Laundry facilities are also available.
Interaction with Guests
If we are home, we interact a lot with our guests. Many become like family. We eat together, enjoy a drink in the evening, play music if you are into that sort of thing.
We are a 10 minute walk from the Septa train line that runs into center city philadelphia. Train takes about 20 minutes and costs $10-12 round trip. There are shopping areas within a mile walk from the house, but nothing right next door.
The area is great for walking in, enjoying the quiet neighborhood, grand turn of the century philadelphia homes, and two nice parks.
No smoking or smokers. Must be OK with 2 cats and small dog that live here. We live in a quiet residential neighborhood, so quiet after 11 pm. OK to have visitors that respect house rules. Well behaved pets OK, check with us. The security deposit covers the cost of key replacement if you forget to leave it with us, or any pet-related cleaning that might have to be done.
Enjoy the view of the wooded patio, the birds and the chickens while you drink your coffee.
We had a great time! It was such a beautiful place! I love experiencing how other people live! The food was very tasty as well. I didn't want to leave!
Although we did not get to meet rory, we were graciously greeted by matt 2 kitties and a doggy. The house was neat and comfortable. The neighborhood was quaint and quiet. We would definitely stay here again!
We spent two nights with Rory and Mat. They were very welcoming and made us feel like old friends. Our hosts were gracious, interesting and interested. The space they provided for us was perfect for our short stay (comfortable bed, good bathroom accommodations and a very nice breakfast offering (homemade peanut butter and awesome coffee!). We highly recommend this Airbnb to anyone.
I had an optometry school interview and on such short notice Rory was extremely welcoming. I felt right at home and even woke up to an amazing breakfast right before my interview. I felt as if they were my parents and I would extremely reccommend staying with them!
While I was not able to stay very long Rory and Matthew made my stay very pleasant! The room was spacious, and warm. And I had access to the fridge and tea pot which suited me perfectly. They are delightful people, and wish I could have stayed longer.
Rory and Matt were very gracious and accommodating hosts. The house is in a wonderful older, quiet neighborhood, although with easy access to highways. The house and room were clean, with a nice artistic vibe and breakfast was an unexpected bonus.

About the Host, Rory
We are Mat Clark and Rory Cohen. Mat is a primary care physician and Rory a personal transformation speaker and mentor. We have 2 college aged children. There is a lot of music, dancing and singing in our home. Mat plays fiddle, mandolin, banjo and stand up bass, Rory plays drums and sings. We go contra and swing dancing, and are plugged into that community if you have the interest. We love to host people from around the world and have been doing so for several years. We also enjoy traveling, preferring working vacations (like volunteering or wwoofing) or adventure (like backpacking and biking). We are environmentally and community-minded. We have 2 cats and a small doggie, and Rory share boards a horse. Rory loves to cook and bake, and to explore the world through food and art. You are always invited to join us for dinner if we are cooking while you're here. We appreciate guests who are self-sufficient.
