The Space

Our apartment is on the fifth floor of an elevator building in leafy, Brownstone-clad Park Slope, Brooklyn. Due to how high up we are in the building, it sports a beautiful view of NYC. We like to describe the look of the neighborhood as akin to the Upper West Side in Manhattan but on a gentle incline and in a different borough : )
It's quite safe in our opinion and is within spitting distance of dozens of restaurants, bars, cafes and the F, G and R train lines (10-15 minutes from Downtown Manhattan), several gyms and a post office.
It's about 3 blocks from Prospect Park and an easy walk to the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) which hosts international cutting edge performances, the Brooklyn Museum, the Botanical Garden, the brand new Barclays Center, the Brooklyn Public Library, gorgeous Greenwood Cemetery (final resting places of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Leonard Bernstein and Louis Comfort Tiffany) and some really great neighborhoods (Fort Greene, Carroll Gardens, Boerum Hill, etc.).
The huge, accessible roof has a sweeping view of Manhattan (from the tip of downtown to the Chrysler Building) and Brooklyn skylines, the Statue of Liberty/NY Harbor and the Manhattan, Williamsburg and Verranzano Bridges.
The room itself occupies the former dining area of this apartment. It has been completely "curtained off" with fabric that both gives you privacy but lets light enter your room. Within the room there is a fold out sofa, a dresser, lamp, small table, chair and half of a full size closet. The kitchen and bathroom are closeby and there is a large living room with lots of natural light. If you are an animal lover, you're in luck--there are two darlin' kitties in residence.

  • Mark and Stoph were really wonderfully generous hosts. Their apartment was immaculate and very comfortable. One night, they made some popcorn and invited me to sit with them, nibble and talk. The bed was fine - not too hard and not too soft - and the view especially in the early morning was spectacular.
The diverse neighborhood was safe, full of great restaurants and the subway trip into the city was incredibly simple. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to enjoy the rooftop area. Maybe next time?!

  • Mark and Stoph are awesome hosts. If you want an authentic New York experience, this is the place to stay. Their place in in the heart of Brooklyn, very close to the subway. If you love kitties, you must stay here. Just like everyone else says, their two fuzz-fuzzes are super sweet and adorable, and if you're not careful, one of them will climb into your suitcase and take a nap! Anyway, booked a weekend getaway here, and everything was perfect. Plus, the guys will sit and chat with you if they are around because they are super friendly. I will stay again if I am in NYC for sure!

  • Mark and Stoph are wonderful and friendly hosts, living in a great neighborhood full of restaurants, cafes, and bars. Although the "room" is a curtained-off area, it nevertheless felt very private and quiet, and the bed is very comfortable. We had a great time and would definitely stay with them again next time we are in Park Slope!

  • Had a lovely stay in Park Slope with Mark & Stoph. Couldn't ask for nicer hosts. On my arrival, Mark was kind enough to offer a couple of beers to welcome me to the apt. I had the added bonus of getting a couple of friendly & chubby cats to keep me company as well. Would highly recommend.

  • Nice funny hosts, with great availability about in-house facilities, time-to-bed and check-in/out timing.
Ready to give advices for an evening out as well!
The "room" is pretty comfortable for a short stay of a few days: if you like comfy spaces and such, maybe it will not suit a longer stay.
Nice "common spaces" with a great view of Manhattan.
Quoting the description, the place to be if you love cats!

  • I arrived in Park Slope on a grizzly, dour rainy afternoon but it was all sunshine inside Mark and Stoph, Rascal and Cinder's apartment. These guys (and cats) are friendly, more than happy to help should you have any questions re. NY and with a diverse range of interests themselves, great to chat with. Even when the guys weren't there, it was sweet to have the pets Rascal and Cinder hang around, keeping me company as I readied myself for another day of hitting the pavement for city adventures. The curtained room is private and that balance between having your own /sharing space is easily met. Added bonus: Stoph makes a mean margarita! Like they say - sweet 'n' spectacular Park Slope. Thanks, guys.

  • Super friendly hosts, very cute room, and perfect Brooklyn vacation. They even put up with my nasty case of bronchitis with not a single complaint. Highly recommended.

  • After spending about 2 weeks with Mark and Stoph I'm happy to confirm all raving reviews below. Go native among the natives with these 2 Brooklynites and don't forget to ask them about the amazing restaurants around Brooklyn's 5th Avenue, and NY theaters and shows. Good bed, Sweet Cat(s), Clean, and amazing Coffee Machine. Important asset to me: proximity to metro lines. Great view, not lofty but a very Cosy and Happy House!
