Amazing! The room I stayed in was beautifully renovated in a minimalistic and rustic style, yet felt like luxury. The space is really well used, perfectly clean and really communal. Also, there a spectacular views from everywhere you sit or stand- especially the communal terrace upstairs where I recommend eating your breakfast in the sun!
The main selling point is the area though, Anna is so helpful and welcoming and great at recommending trails and hikes which take you in the mountains to lakes and waterfalls and other activities around food, horse riding etc.
The area is surrounded in mountains and fields of olive groves and small vineyards and is completely enchanting, with old abandoned houses you can walk to and old villages nestled at the top of hills.
This is definately somewhere I plan on returning, and I would recommend everyone to come here! Thank you Anna :)
I had a wonderful stay with Anna. The room was in a very nice part of the countryside near Pescosolido. Anna is a perfect hostess. She invited me to lunch and 2 dinners. I met a friend of hers who was very interesting. I would highly recommend Anna's place and intend on staying there again in the near future. Thanks Anna.
Anna's home stay was an amazing, memorable experience. We did incredible things like part-take in the winemaking and traditional cheese making, visited the local lake and an Italian farm. We definitely hope to come back and will certainly be recommending this to everybody. Anna was so kind to us.
My stay at Anna's house was Wonderful! Abruzzo is a beautiful National Park, very unspoiled by tourism, and the tiny village/road curve Via Piana and surroundings are actually nice to hike around too: just to see old Italian country side villages and orchards.
Anna herself is the loveliest host: she picked us up from the bus stop at Sora and provided us with very nice (self-made) hiking routes through the park. In addition, together with a renovated farm house nearby, you can do a wide number of activities. (I visited the shepherd to see how Italian Pecorino and Ricotta are made, amazing!)
About the house: we had a very nice (and clean!) room, provided we what we needed. Also, Anna took us to the supermarket so we could do some easy shopping to cook. If you don't want to cook yourself, she will take you to the farm house where you can join in for their good meals (for a good price). However, Anna is very open and kind, and we actually had a nice dinner together.
Altogether: VISIT ANNA AND ABRUZZO! The accommodation they offer is very good for the small price they ask, Anna is lovely and the surroundings beautiful and calm.
What a lovely spot! Anna was welcoming and informative. If we had had longer I would have loved to have done one of the many walks Anna recommended or a cooking class or cheese making day, all of which were offered. Our room was spotless and the village was such a wonderful place to stay. I would recommend anyone to stay here.
Via Piana is a beautiful rustic Italian country stay. We had the most amazing time here. Our room was beautifully decorated and Anna is an amazing host. Nothing is too much trouble and she is so helpful and knowledgeable about the local area, she was also so kind in picking us up from sora when we arrived as we didn't have a car.
The communal areas of the house are great, we enjoyed cooking dinner and also had dinner at the local farm stay and met some other tourists, which we would highly recommend. All the guests at Via Piana were very friendly and it was a pleasure to meet them all.
Anna gave us lots of ideas of how to enjoy the local area, including taking us horse riding through a river and also a hiking to a local waterfall. The local area is picturesque, quiet and a real insight into a real Italian village. We would highly recommend via Piana, your time here will be unforgettable!
My visit to Via Piana was an absolute delight. Though I only stayed there for one night, it was the perfect place to rest before continuing my travels. Surrounded by the amazing Abruzzo mountains, with a stunning view of Sora from my bedroom window, I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful backdrop. The location is also great because it's near enough to Sora that you can find a bar or a pizzeria to hang out in, but far enough from the noise and traffic that you can enjoy some peace and quiet.
For January, I was very lucky with the weather - during the day it was actually warm enough to eat outside on Anna's terrace, overlooking the olive groves (I even put on my sunglasses!) - however at night the temperature drops and it can get very chilly. But Anna is well-equipped for dealing with the cold: she has a very welcoming, authentic stone pizza oven that warms the kitchen/living room in no time at all, and she provided me with plenty of blankets so that I didn't feel the cold at all during the night. She was even kind enough to offer me a hot water bottle!
The kitchen was very clean and well-equipped, and it was so easy to prepare a meal, since the grocery store in Forcella is only a five minute walk away. The living room was very accommodating, with the cosy fire, and there is also very good Wifi connection.
Anna was a great host. She is very knowledgable about the local area and was keen to suggest great places to visit, and nice places to eat, etc. Local transport is actually very good for getting to and from Sora. There is a regular bus that travels up and down the mountain during the day, but the walk is actually very pleasant and not too difficult. In fact, if you are a keen walker you will find some really fantastic trails in the vicinity, and Anna and her dog Neve are more than happy to recommend a few!
I would advise visitors in the winter to be prepared to face the cold, but if you find yourself as lucky as I was with the weather, you will enjoy a warm spell that puts British summertime to shame!
Via Piana is an amazing place to see another side side of Italy, apart from the crowded monuments. I am currently an au pair in Rome (which is an amazing city, but it is a city and rather bustling and cosmopolitan) and wanted to retreat to the countryside for a weekend. It is beautiful here. You are literally IN the mountains with gorgeous views from every side. It is relaxing in every way – Anna even picks you up from the station. This was perfect since I didn’t have a car, just took the bus from Rome (a bit less than two hours and a beautiful drive). My room was typical rustic Italian: tile floor, whitewashed walls, and beautiful wood details. Being November, it was a little chilly, but thick stone walls kept it amazingly well insulated and Anna gave me lots of warm blankets. There is a beautiful new kitchen where I got to cook my meals (there is a grocery store a five minute walk away, or you can go down into Sora). There is a wonderful sense of community there, with a farm stay nearby and people stopping by to say hello. There are beautiful walks on the mountain roads and breathtaking hikes in the hills. It is altogether relaxing and restoring. I hope to visit again while I’m nearby!
