The condo was gorgeous! It was great having the beach towels, beach chairs, umbrella, cooler and so much more available to us while on vacation. Kim checked in on us to see that everything was going well and that we had everything we needed. Overall a great experience!
Communication, location and perfectly supplied condo made for a fantastic 12 day holiday in paradise.
Great place in Wailea. Lovely apartment which has everything you need and even more. Lots of stuff available for the beach snorkel, beach chairs, towels etc. Really handy having a laundry an kitchen for our stay. Kim was super easy to deal with, had no problem finding he place and great instructions for everything. Best place in Wailea. Thanks Kim
As far as the listing is concerned, what you see is exactly what you get: this is by far and away the best value for its location in the Wailea area, and is a stellar spot to set up camp for a few days, a week, or a month.
The apartment itself is spacious, low-key in its decor (My wife and I noted that it had quite a resemblance to our grandparents' own beachfront properties in Pismo and Long Beach Island, respectively: "seaside austere" might be a good term for it). The balcony doesn't provide much of a view, but is enclosed with lovely foliage, and makes for a gorgeous backdrop for an outside breakfast before the heat and humidity pick up. The air conditioning does its job admirably, and the amenities are all there: comfy bed, extra everything, a full kitchen and every appliance in good working order.
The area itself is central, though--as other posters have noted--you're a bit off the main drag, and reaching Wailea and the beach requires a poke down the hill and across the golf course in order to get to food and shopping. This isn't really a problem logistically, though we did have at least one weird conversation with the security guard on the club grounds: he stopped us for walking down the path which runs alongside the street, warned us to stay off of the green, and shrugged when we asked him if there was another way to get from the Grand Champion complex to the Marriott property. Naturally, this has nothing to do with the quality of the apartment itself, but it is worth noting for anybody who's making that particular trek, either coming or going.
All-in-all, however, this was an absolutely golden experience. Great space, great location, great time, and a five-star recommendation for anybody looking for an affordable high-end stay in an chic area of the island.
(PS: Be sure to look in the closets and under the counters in the bathrooms! There's an absolutely fantastic collection of what I assume are "leftovers" from previous guests, ranging from scuba gear and a cooler to sunblocks in every SPF from 15 to 50. I wish we'd thought to check it out prior to stocking up on our own "beach kits" down at the Whaler Retail shop!)
This was our 4th visit to Hawaii and our first time making reservations through airbnb. The booking process went smoothly however, 48 hours before our flight realized we never received the email with directions and key code entry info. We emailed Kim and she promptly responded and had the information to us within 24 hours. So overall, the customer service was great!
The condo was nicely decorated, roomy and very cozy! We appreciated all the extras Kim provided beach chairs, umbrella, towels, boogie board, water shoes, snorkel gear and more. The convenience of having these items available for our use was great! We did end up renting custom snorkel gear at Boss Frog and we got the “best gear available and that was well worth it!! We loved waking up to all the bird sounds and sitting on the Lanai eating our breakfast. Also, the fruit and goody basket was a great surprise, a thoughtful touch and very much appreciated!!
This was actually our first reservation through Airbnb. While it is not mentioned anywhere on the description (I think), the flat is not rented by a private individual but a rental agency (ok, you can kind of guess that by the number of the spaces in their profile). Nevertheless, that didn’t cause us any issues. Actually the whole process was very smooth. We got directions and a keycode for entry before the arrival so there was no problem in arriving late on Saturday. Actually we never met anyone regarding the flat so if you’re renting via Airbnb to meet locals and stay with them, then this clearly isn’t a place for you.
Now, to the apartment itself, it was nice and I think the pictures represented it pretty accurately. I think the age of the place is starting to be visible in some parts of the furniture (cupboards, bathroom). Still when we compared this to several other listings in Maui, we were pleased with the interior design & decorations. I’ve no idea why but most flats seem to be decorated with rattan furniture and textiles inspired by Hawaii shirts.
With large bedroom, a lot larger living room and two baths, the flat was almost too big for the two of us. It even had a washer & dryer – even if it took us like a day to stumble upon those, hidden in the closet on the balcony. It also had a good selection of beach equipment, including: two chairs, umbrella, mats, towels, snorkel sets and a boogie board (our favorite :-)).
On the downside, the air conditioning in these units has been done using units mounted to the wall below windows. Both living room and bedroom units worked fine and managed to cool down the flat well but the problem is that the bedroom unit is so noisy that we couldn’t sleep with it on. Also some surfaces like the floors were a big smudgy and would've needed cleaning.
The apartment itself is part of a nice-looking gated community with two pools. It’s within walking distance to some of the services in Wailea but there aren’t really any sidewalks so you’d have to walk on either on the street or on the golf course to get there. A car is a must to get anywhere (and also otherwise a good idea to tour the island) and there’s a designated parking spot right by the front door. Wailea itself is a very nice area with posh resorts, golf courses and very nice (the best, some say) beaches. We stayed here, visited Lahaina and also Kailua-Kona & Volcano on the Big Island and Wailea was our clear favorite place. We could’ve easily stayed another week in here so I guess that’s a good argument for the flat.
The listing was exactly what we expected and more. A wonderful apartment in beautiful wailea, would definitely use this again!
