It's a nice experience to live in her house. The location is really great and I felt the hospitality of Polly.
Polly's apartment is in a great location in the city. The room itself is very nice and Polly is very helpful. It is a great place to stay!
Polly has been genuinely helpful. Her place is at a great location which is five minutes walk to subway. It was a pleasant and comfortable stay for me.
I spent over two weeks in Shanghai at Polly’s place – first in the big, then in the small room – and I had a good time there. The flat is very conveniently located and Polly is a great host. She answered my emails really fast and picked me up at the subway station when I arrived. The 3BR apartment generally is rather clean; exceptions can be found in the bathrooms (e.g. mould-infested ceiling) and the kitchen (e.g. dirty refrigerator).
The small room is tiny (< 10sqm), its window looks out onto a neighbour’s window and you have to share the family bathroom. Due to the limited insulation of the building and an issue with the AC it was very cold, but Polly had the AC fixed right the next day, provided a heater and a hot-water bottle and she even bought electric blankets for all the beds while I was there. If you would like to sleep a little longer once in a while, ear plugs are helpful, because the dining area is right in front of your door.
Polly and her daughter Qingqing are very kind, warm-hearted and helpful people. They invited me several times to share their meal, took me to Qingqing’s dancing performance in the neighbourhood during the New Year festivities and helped me right away when an ATM had swallowed my credit card. Thanks to my hosts, I have learnt a lot about the Chinese culture. So if you would like to get a glimpse on real life in China and you are fine with a no frills accommodation, I can definitely recommend this place. However, go for the big room – it clearly is the better value. Thanks Polly!
Polly was a great host - friendly and helpful. She even wrote places down in Chinese for me to take with me so I could show where I wanted to go if I got lost. She also helped me reserve the acrobats one night which was lovely. Her apartment is also in a very handy location and close to Tianzifang and the metro station. I would definitely stay with Polly and her daughter Ching Ching again.
Staying at Polly's place was the absolute highlight of my trip to Shanghai. Let me put it straight: Polly and her daughter made me feel welcome and at home. The location was great, and actually well and easily connected to the center of Shanghai. Within minutes of WALKING you can find about everything you need in town--including tons of bars, restaurants and shopping. Polly has become my Chinese language teacher and recommended highly interesting walks, sites, and theater venues. Coming to a place like Shanghai can be intimidating for solo travelers. Staying here made it that much easier to find my footing. A real treat, and especially recommended for Westerners looking to get a real taste of Shanghai. Also a ridiculously good value. Would definitely stay here again.
Polly and her daughter are really kind, friendly, helpful, fun and nice people. I stayed for 2 month in the apartment and always felt at home. They always helped me when I had questions or problems or even when I was sick she accompanied me to a doctor. The apartment is clean and has everything you need. The location is perfect, because you find a lot of chinese and also foreign restaurants around the corner. Subway station is 2 minutes away. I will definitely come back to Shanghai and visit them again, because I feel like I won 2 good friends in Polly and Xinxin :)
Polly was a great host, very helpful and friendly. She stood by me in time of need, everything worked out well. I had a great time and it's very nice of Polly.
