We had a luxurious experience living in the palace for 4 nights. It is an oasis; it is not just a place to stay but a memorable experience. Phillipe and Martial are fantastic hosts, sensitive to your every need. We arrived late the first evening and Martial offered to fix us eggs so we wouldn't have to go out. So appreciated. Breakfast is excellent by the way. We felt like we were staying with old friends. The palace has been lovingly restored; it is a work of art enhanced by Phillipe's fabulous furniture creations (he is an amazing designer). It is a privilege to be allowed to stay in this unique home. Don't pass up the opportunity.
Cordialissima, quasi affettuosa (i ristoranti della zona erano improponibili e gli host hanno approntato uno spuntino serale...).
La sera ero sempre coinvolto nel loro aperitivo (adoro il Pernod...).
L'appartamento è estremamente caratteristico nell'architettura e molto elegante nell'arredo.
Our time in the Arab palace was lovely and was probably the best part of our whole trip. The space is just as beautiful as it appears in the pictures and it was a true pleasure to relax there after stressful days out in the hectic city of Tunis. Philippe and Martial were very kind and welcoming and made us feel at home. The breakfast was delicious and they even went out of their way to accomodate my friend who is allergic to gluten. When we first arrived, the neighborhood seemed a bit unsavory, but we soon realized that it was fine. The neighbors we passed in the courtyard were always very friendly and one lady even helped us catch a taxi. The location is also good - it's a quick walk or cheap taxi ride to the main tourist attractions - but the apartment is peaceful and quiet. I definitely recommend a stay at their place - you won't regret it!
I was in Tunis for five days, between December and January. The weather was bad, unfortunately. But just for this, I can say that the arrangement has turned in the real plus of my vacation.
I'm pretty sure that if I had been closed between other four walls, I would feel of wasting those days. But there, when I was forced to stay locked up at home because the rain did not allow to go around, I felt like ... a sultan! :)
The Arab Palace –and it is a TRUE Arabian palace, ladies and gentlemen!! at an incredibly low cost!!- is able to offer the comforts of a modern luxury western home, and at the same time to maintain the arabic charm.
The location is perfect: far from the chaos of the modern area, quiet and safe at night, and really walking distance from the Medina. Moreover, from there you can easily reach a couple of key points where it is easy to stop the classic yellow cabs, crucials to tour the city and get for example to the coast.
I haven’t had the pleasure to meet personally Philippe&Marcel (however really helpful and attentive by email), but I had the great fortune to be welcomed by the young Dali: not only the person who received me at arrival from the airport (even giving directions by phone to the arabian taxi driver) and gave me the keys, but a true complete “guide”: great connoisseur of Tunisian culture, he has kindly directed me to a vision of the city from the inside, allowing me to stay well away from the dynamics of the tourist routes.
The breakfast -arranged by him every morning- was a precious moment of cultural exchange and a great introduction to all my explorations.
In short, and without a doubt, I can say that if my vacation in Tunis worked, it was just thanks to all the little big things that the palace has brought with it.
Incredibly -even though I really like to travel alone- I thought it would be nice to share that amazing place with someone, for how BIG and beautiful is it.
So, for all the couples on vacation in Tunis: do not miss this opportunity!!! ☺
Accueil parfait et chaleureux, lieu encore mieux que la description,
un palais lumineux en bordure de Médina, c'était magnifique, dommage que le travail ne nous ai pas permis d'en profiter plus...
We stayed at the palace for three nights. Philippe and Martial were wonderful hosts and helped in several unexpected ways. They provided us with directions in English and Arabic to help taxi drivers navigate to their place from the airport, offered a delicious breakfast with great coffee as part of our stay, shared restaurant recommendations and suggestions for things to do around the city, and helped arrange way-early morning taxi transport back to the airport...even waking up with us to make sure we were picked up and had a light breakfast before we left. And we loved their little Jack Russell terrier (an fyi for those who have allergies).
The rooms and house were every bit as beautiful as the photos we saw when booking, and the place is very convenient to the old part of town, making it easy to walk to the souks and boulevard. If you visit Sidi Bou Said, be sure to drop into the Rock The Kasbah showroom on your way through the tourist loop - great way to see their designs.
