The Space

Welcome to our Funky Spanish Casita! This 2 bedroom 1 bath home has everything you need for your San Diego beach vacation. A bohemian walking paradise in a charming beachfront community full of eclectic charm. 10 minutes to downtown on major bus routes, convenient to all freeways in a safe neighborhood just two blocks from the hustle of the main shopping area.

Assigned parking with two yards great for grilling and relaxing. Hammock, vintage preway fireplace, multiple seating areas, and charming decor. Outdoor shower perfect for cooling off after a day at the beach.

Full kitchen with all utensils, all beach towels, linens included. Feel free to borrow one of our bikes, surfboards and we are happy to arrange anything else to make your trip more memorable. Two queen beds , and one pull out full sofa bed in the living room to draw straws on. There is also a trundle bed that are two twins that would be perfect for kids.
We have a ceiling fan in the living room, floor fans, and airconditioners in the bedroom windows.

Just two blocks from Dog beach, surfing and sunset cliffs. Walk down to the popular Newport Avenue, boasting everything from Antique Shops to some of our favorite restaurants, as well as a great farmers market on Wednesdays. Great dive bars and tacos await!

Please note that like much of greater downtown area, we are on flight path. Although it is convenient to have our airport downtown, it makes a lot of san diegos urban areas on the flight path and some people may notice it, some people may not.

Visit our neighborhood park, Robb Field- a recreation complex with multiple tennis, basketball and handball court. It also has a fitness gym, lighted softball and multi-purpose fields, playground area for kids, and acres of wide open grass with picnic tables and shade trees.

Just one mile from the Ocean Beach pier, the second longest pier in California. It’s an amazing, panoramic location from which to drop a fishing line (no license needed), take a romantic stroll, or grab a burger and a beer at the OB Pier Café.

Be sure to visit the Tide pools at sunset cliffs , one of the most beautiful locations in the world, named after its amazing sunsets. Take a leisurely stroll down to sea level and explore the magic and the mystery of the tide pools at low tide.

10 MINUTES – is all the driving time you need to visit Sea World, Seaport Village, Historic Old Town, Downtown San Diego and the historic Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego Convention Center, Little Italy, Maritime Museums, Petco Park (Padres stadium), and San Diego’s main airport, Lindbergh field.

20 MINUTES – to San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park and Museums, Torrey Pines Golf Course, five outdoor shopping malls, Qualcomm stadium (Chargers), Coronado Island and the historic Hotel Del Coronado, Cabrillo National Monument and Lighthouse.

30 MINUTES - to Tijuana and the Mexico border, Del Mar Racetrack and Fairgrounds, Several Indian gaming casinos, Legoland, etc.

As you can see, there is so much to see and do within a close distance of our charming neighborhood.

  • It has only been a day, but I already miss this little home away from home! First off, Helene was great to work with. She was fast and efficient. She also made us feel right at home. The purpose of my trip was to celebrate my 30th birthday with six of my closest girlfriends for three nights. It might have been a little crowded with one bathroom and seven females, but we made it work. The beds were all clean and comfortable. The whole house was fairly clean. We ended up renting the silver bullet which was awesome! It has been completely redone, and we all thought it looked like a picture right out of a magazine. The backyard is fabulous! We probably could have spent hours out there if we hadn't been ten minutes away from the beach. It was an easy walk to the beach, restaurants and shops. Ocean Beach was clean and not too crowded. The location of the house also made easy to come and go from the airport. Our main purpose was relaxation, but Sea World and the rest of San Diego were not too far away. I would highly recommend this gem of a spot to anyone!

  • It was our first time using airbnb. I was a bit nervous since we were traveling as a big group AND with kids.
The space was perfect! It was so good to have a little home base away from our real home.
    Highly recommend!!

  • We had a fantastic week in the Historic Spanish Gem! Five of us in total including three kids who loved the walk to the beach and the airstream trailer in the garden! Big thanks to Helene for making sure all was ready for our arrival. House very clean which is a big deal for me as a mom on holiday!! Only small issue with our lovely co-holiday makers, great group of young French girls and guys staying in the flat over the garage. As the communal garden table and BBQ are located right outside the bedroom windows of the house it was pretty noisy when they were out partying and we were trying to sleep....don't blame them, just we are oldies and our kids needed their beauty sleep! Didn't spoil our time in the house, but to make others aware that you need to be tolerant of party time neighbours. Thanks to all.

  • We had the best stay at Helene's FANTASTIC beach home! This place could not be more perfect or adorable. Helene is the perfect host and responded quickly to my multiple questions and reservation alterations.
As for the house, it has very spacious living and dining areas and 2 good sized bedrooms. Beds were so comfortable! There was also a hallway that has a twin bed that a full size adult slept comfortably in while we were there =) The backyard and the proximity to the ocean were the highlights of this home. Nice sized table outside for dining, snacking and drinking. We even enjoyed a nice evening fire. Easy walk to lots of action - bars, restaurants, shops. Super easy walk to the beach! We were also thrilled to have access to the bikes, beach towels and boogie boards. Street parking was not a problem for us. We highly recommend this house for anyone looking for an awesome stay in Ocean Beach. We can't wait to return!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We rented the house for a girl's trip. There were 6 of us traveling and it was a perfect spot for us. Everyone had their own space but there was plenty of communal space for hanging out with the group as well. Helene was SO responsive and answered our questions, often in a matter of minutes. The backyard, grill, hammock, and outdoor fireplace were definitely a highlight for us.
We would stay again and again. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Thanks for the awesome stay Helene!

  • We headed out to San Diego for a girls weekend and had an amazing time! The house was absolutely perfect! So cute and styled and plenty of room for us all! It was in walking distance to some amazing places to eat and great vintage shops. Plus a short drive to a few other destinations we wanted to check out. I would highly recommend staying here and would stay there again! Helene, is such a sweet heart and answered all our questions quickly! Thank you for everything and I hope others have as much fun as we did!

  • We loved our stay at this "Historic Spanish Gem"! It was a perfect place for us to stay for our first family vacation with two young children. Everything we wanted to see (the beach, Seaworld, etc.) was close, and we had everything we needed when we just wanted to relax, nap, and hang out at "home". Helene was a wonderful hostess, and we will definitely be staying either here or at one of her other beautiful properties if and when we return to San Diego!

  • Helene was great at providing information about the rental upfront, which I really appreciated. She was laid back about the experience, but had everything set up with great attention to detail at the same time. There were many homey touches to the house-from the decorations, to the amenities in the house (extra just-in-case items in the bathroom, water cooler in the kitchen, clear labels and storage of extra linens...). We had everything we'd hoped for and more. When we couldn't find a can opener our first night there and asked, Helene showed up within an hour to bring one to be sure we could prepare our meal! The home was cleaned nicely and felt very welcoming with flower vases on the tables and a few food items in the kitchen/fridge :)

HI! I am a photographer and my husband is a musician and scientist. Our house is our sanctuary and we love to share it with others for their own little slice of paradise while on vacation or staycation. The Juniper Zen Palace is a 2 bedroom house and serves as our primary residence, although we vacate when the entire home is rented. We have an extra detached guest suite with its own bathroom, fridge, and microwave that is available as well and sleeps 2, or is available with the entire house for an additional charge. Our pride and joy is our Mobile Love Den, a 1958 Dalton canned ham that is fully restored and has gotten rave reviews so be sure to check that out if that sort of thing floats your boat! We will also rent out our inside guest bedroom by itself sometimes, so email if you are just looking for one room. We have a small dog, June Bug, who is a Boston Terrier. She stays at her friend's house when the entire home is rented. If you intend to rent the suite or spare room, please be warned that she may come in for a morning snuggle and may jump on your luggage when you first arrive. Our home is a charming early 20th century craftsman that has been nicely restored and is designed in our own eclectic style. If you rent the whole house, you'll have shelves full of LP records, cd's, and great books to keep you company. Also at your disposal are fresh fruit and veggies from the garden, backyard bbq, fire pit, cabana and banquet table with night lights, hammock under the tall bamboo and banana trees, and many more simple but fun delights. We truly do love hosting people and have had great guests from all over the world gracing the pages of our guest book.
