The Space

Guest quarters in charming 1907 house. Mere steps to terrific restaurants, bars, galleries, shopping, and all the best stuff happening in Central East Austin. Also insanely close to Downtown and SXSW activities (East Austin is as close you can get to those unless you are staying in a downtown hotel or condo); Capitol; UT football, baseball, and softball stadiums; Red River music row; Town Lake hike and bike trail; shuttle stops for ACL Fest and F1, as well as city bus routes; and much, much more.

This fully equipped, eclectically decorated suite is part of my house, but it has its own bedroom, bath, small kitchen, and private entrance. It also has a Iot of light, wireless Internet, a brand-new flat-screen TV with lotsa cable, Bose MP3 player speaker, a king-sized bed, a full-sized fold-out couch for extra guests, a third futon for large groups, and a lovely screened-in porch with downtown views, fantastic for working on a laptop, reading, or playing. Gated (not covered) parking is included.

Kitchen is fully appointed with full oven/fridge/dishwasher, as well as toaster, microwave, coffee maker, French press, dishes, etc. Coffee, teas, and basic milk and breakfast products available. Bath towels and basics (including blow dryer) are provided.

*IMPORTANT for those with *severe* allergies to dog dander*: I live on the other side of the house with two dogs. The dogs don't stay in the guest apartment, but I have had one person (in 2+ years of renting) affected by their dander. So if you or someone in your party is extremely sensitive to dog dander, this is probably not the place for you.*

If you have special dietary needs (such as rice or soy milk for coffee/tea), please let me know ahead of time, and I'm glad to accommodate you.

Up to five bicycles of varying quality, along with helmets and locks, are available at no extra charge.

I live in the other part of the house and am happy to be as invisible or as helpful as you desire - I've lived in Austin forever and can give you all sorts of tips for most anything you want to do.

I'm trying to get basic written guides together, but feel free to ask in the meantime.

One more thing: Booking is first-come, first-serve. Regrettably, I cannot hold the space for you or show you the rental prior to booking.

  • Cindy was an excellent host. The space is exactly as described on the site. The bikes were a great resource. They were great to have, but beware--Austin has some hills, which came as quite a surprise for two bikers used to the flat streets of Chicago. Not sure I would count on being able to bike as far on a future trip. Cindy was very helpful--provides general toiletries, and ample towels, and was happy to share a beach towel for us when we needed one. She also was very flexible on our departure time because there were no other guests coming in, which was really helpful. Would definitely rent here again.

  • We were only in Austin for one evening and Cindy's apartment was exactly what we were looking for: very clean, conveniently located close to East 6th st and in a quiet residential neighborhood. We wish we could have had more time to enjoy the beautiful patio space!

  • This was my first experience with in Austin and it was AMAZING! The house is a historical landmark in a quaint little area surrounded by cute little boutiques and restaurants. The king size bed was massive, the kitchen adorable. Overall great experience. Definitely stay here!

  • Cindy's place was everything we could hope for! Lovely patio, spacious airy apartment, comfy bed. So many great things close by and made even more accessible by the bikes provided. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable, well-situated place in a fabulous city.

  • Cindy was extremely kind and helpful! The Cotton Street Suite is in a really fun and hip area with lots of stuff to see on 11th and Rosewood. Short walk to Downtown and East 6th. I highly recommend staying here - the place itself was clean, colorful, and comfortable.

  • Cindy was very good about giving us information about the locks, the heating/cooling system, where to find extra blankets and towels, etc. The neighborhood was nice and quiet and not far from University campus, which is where we spent a good deal of our time. The neighborhood was quiet and easy to drive in.

    Response from Cindy:

    Hi, there,
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in my AirBnB suite for the most part. I'm really sorry you didn't know I have dogs. It states on my profile, in the House Description, in my House Manual, in the Amenities/Info section, and in the email I send beforehand that I have two dogs and that I try to keep dander out of the apartment but if a person has severe allergies, he or she might not want to stay there. I'm not sure how else to let renters know, as it's almost the first thing in my description. I will look and try to move it up in the other stuff. Thanks for your booking and your feedback!

  • Excellent accommodation for our stay in Austin! Thank you Cindy for sharing your lovely place and its amazing porch. It was the perfect place to relax in the evenings after spending the day cruising the city on the bikes you provide for your guests. It really is the best way to see the city. The apartment is super cozy, everyone in the group absolutely loved it. It was the perfect location in Austin East-End with just a short distance to downtown and the capitol. We really appreciated the many varieties of milk you provided for us. I hope to be back the next time I visit Austin!

  • This is a really excellent rental! My wife and I stayed in Cindy's place for 9 nights. It's really comfortable with a great bed, nice bathroom, excellent kitchen and living space. Wifi was good and there's access to washer and dryer. The screened terrace is a great place to sit with a glass of wine or a beer in the evening. Cindy was really helpful and kind - she's a nice lady and an excellent host. She had several bicycles available and we used 2 bikes of excellent quality most days. They are a great way to get around Austin quickly - the city is very well suited for bikes. We loved Austin! It has lots to see and do. Cindy's place is in an excellent location to base oneself to see the city. We hope to be back sometime!

  • This was my first trip to Austin and staying at Cindy's place felt like home. The location was perfect - we could easily get anywhere we needed - and the neighborhood was quiet, there was always parking available and had plenty of amenities nearby. Cindy's suite was spacious, quiet and clean.

Couldn't have asked for a better experience! Looking forward to visiting Austin and staying here again in the near future.

About
I've lived in Austin forever, and I love to be an ambassador for my chosen hometown. I'm a writer and editor. I have two big, rambunctious dogs whom I adore (and who will not be staying at the house during guest stays). My two passions since childhood have been rock music and journalism, and, with a few tweaks, that's what they still are. I dunno - I'm a liberal arts major who does and likes the things liberal arts majors do. I love delicious and adventurous food, books, great movies, design of all kinds, plants, and traveling, which I don't get to do enough of. I tend to enjoy big, cosmopolitan ciites like New York, Paris, and Rome or beautiful beaches in Mexico or high desert like Marfa and surroundings or northern New Mexico. I'm friendly and goofy. I'm sure you've stopped reading by now.
