The Pool House in the Redwoods

Cabin - Entire home/apt · Amigo Rd, Soquel, CA 95073, United States

The Space

The picturesque Pool House, named for its close proximity to the hot tub and pool, features a kitchenette, queen-sized bed, a futon/lounge and a small loft area under the roof, where there is an additional futon. It has it's own bathroom and shower.

The home of the Wellstone Center in the Redwoods offers people who seek tranquility and peacefulness the perfect spot to spend a long weekend or restful week or two. We are ideally situated for day trips to all the magical sights this part of California has to offer. Up here at the end of the road you will find luscious flora and fauna, a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere and you can experience the best of two worlds: the redwoods that literally grow in the back yard and the ocean that is only a short drive (or bike ride) away.

We offer access to private trails through the redwoods and on our grounds you can entertain yourself with Bocce ball or just lounge by the pool or sit in the hot tub. We will try to make you feel comfortable and give you an experience that you will not want to have missed. The Wellstone Center in the Redwoods also provides free community courses, such as Sarah's popular German Cooking Course two Friday nights a month, and weekend workshops on topics like nature photography or a "Find Your Voice" writing workshop with a best-selling author. • I stayed in the pool house last weekend with my teenage son and college age daughter. Once you start driving up the narrow, two mile road leading up to the main house; you know you are in a special place. The pool house in located on a large piece of property that literally, backs up in to the Redwood Forest. We were greeted by the family dog - Sally, and also delighted to discover baby goats, chickens & rabbits are part of the charm of staying at the pool house. It did take my teenage son bit of time to adjust to the lack of internet service; but once he settled in; we enjoyed playing games provided by our hostess and actual conversations while sitting in the jacuzzi. Honestly, i decided not inquire about internet service because i found this as an opportunity to enjoy family time without the electronic distractions. Our host & hostess were engaging, without being intrusive. Their are actually several young people that live & work on the property and all were welcoming & helpful. The accommodations inside the pool house were comfortable and ample. We opted to sleep downstairs; however, a quaint loft is an option, and sleeps two people comfortably. Both days we made breakfast in the small kitchen space and enjoyed eating outside beside the pool. My only regret is that we did not plan on spending more time relaxing and enjoying our beautiful & serene surroundings up in the Redwoods.

  • The pool house and the whole property are really beautiful. Very peaceful and relaxing and what a view! My nine year old daughter was thrilled to help milk goats and bottle feed the babies. It was a great experience for her. All of the residents were very helpful and friendly and we early enjoyed our stay! It was a bit of a drive from the boardwalk and beach, but very refreshing to wake up in the peace and quiet of the mountains.

  • Sarah and Steve were so hospitable. They somehow found us on the small road by their house (we got lost and our phones were dead) and helped us find their home. The pool house was tiny, but cozy- we had all the amenities we needed, the hot tub was great, and the entire area was really zen. Steve and Sarah were great hosts who made sure we had everything we needed.

  • Sarah and Steve were absolutely wonderful hosts. The pool house was perfect for a quiet weekend getaway. There was a gorgeous 2 mile hike within steps of the pool house and the neighborhood was perfectly secluded. I can't wait to book another weekend at the Wellstone Center.

  • This was an absolutely gorgeous experience on every level. I came to give myself time and space to write, and as a present for my 50th birthday.

I stayed five days, and have never had more gracious hosts or been at a more beautiful airbnb. The setting is paradisiacal, and the hosts are extremely friendly and kind. There are several wonderful young people from around the world who live there to work on the organic "farm," all of whom were delightful. They even sang happy birthday to me! (It was my birthday celebration, but still.) They really bent over backwards to help me feel comfortable.

You can literally walk into the redwood forest from the back of the property. The hot tub is blissful, the air is sweet, and the sky is full of stars. On top of it all, five baby goats were born the day before I arrived, and I got to hold them. I wrote undisturbed in the fresh air and in my room.

All in all this was a magical retreat, exceeding my expectations and even my dreams.

  • Sarah and Steve were so very welcoming and hospitable. They are there for you as much or as little as you need. I hung out with them a fair bit and had a wonderful time. There is a wonderful hour long hike that begins from their back garden which is amazing. Also, not even an hour from Big Basin Redwood park, where you are truly humbled by nature.

Communicating with Sarah was quick, easy and informative. I left feeling very peaceful, rested and inspired. Wonderful people, beautiful place. Cabin has all you need and is wondeflly comfortable

  • The place was gorgeous, quiet, and comfortable. We opted to keep to ourselves mostly, but our hosts were so friendly and gracious. It was a much needed getaway from daily life. An oasis of calm!

  • Very positive experience, the Pool House was the perfect place to get away with our dog and disconnect. Great hiking just steps from the house, and their dog (Sally) provided the perfect trail lead and buddy to our goldendoodle. We would stay there again and recommend it for those looking to get away and stay someplace that is fairly secluded and peaceful.

  • Sarah was an amazing host! everyone at the Pool house made me feel so welcome and comfortable. The location was also ideal. The first morning I got to see the sun hitting the tree tops as it rose. It was so beautiful and serene. About when I didn't think it could get better, I saw the sunset! This is such a romantic and relaxing getaway. As an added bonus my dogs adored the place and Sally! My youngest pup is about Sally's age so they played together as though they grew up with each other. Thank you so much Sarah for having Shane and me.
I have already informed all my friends and family about the Pool House and definitely plan on staying there every time I am visiting Santa Cruz.

  • What can I say...we drove up the long single lane road not knowing what to expect. We arrived early and were greeted by Sally, the most mild mannered and well behaved dog around (don't be fooled by her barks). We knocked and were greeted by Sarah who told us a little bit about the place and we were on our way!

This place is only about 2 miles from the nearest grocery (24 hours) - but you don't feel anywhere near civilization when you're up in the trees. You can see out to the ocean, which makes for beautiful sunsets. The pool house was my favorite unit on the property. You're steps away from the hot tub/pool, trails, the backyard - and it even includes an awesome loft - providing further seclusion.

We were able to interact with a fer WWOOFers who were staying with Sarah and Steve - and were even invited for pizza out of the wood burning stove in the back (which were awesome!!)

Overall, great place that provides a romantic getaway or just peace and quiet. Very nice to get away from the city for a bit.

About
We are a small community in the California redwoods seeking to promote an atmosphere of tranquility and calm, to bolster the talents and capabilities of people through workshops and seminars and residencies, including programs for writers under the tutelage of a New York Times best-selling author, and to work to make a difference bringing attention to issues such as climate change, respect for the environment and nature, development of the young, organic gardening and healthy, active living. We are accepting visitors through Airbnb for a limited period of time, offering an introduction to the beautiful setting in all its variety in the hope that those who are enchanted by Amigo Road - and so far we have yet to meet anyone who has come to Amigo Road and not been enchanted - will come back later to participate in Wellstone Center in the Redwoods programs and activities.
